Making his way to the kitchen, Marcus poured us each a glass of wine whilst I collapsed on the sofa. ‘I suppose, we should go through their baby toys and make room for all this stuff. I said looking at the pile of toys the boys had been generously given for their birthday, with more to come in a few days for Christmas.
‘Perhaps we can look into donating them somewhere, a women’s shelter maybe.’ Handing me a chilled glass of white, Marcus settled down beside me.
‘Is that what you really want?’
I knew where this was going and truth be told, I’d love to try for another. We have everything; Two beautiful boys. Marcus’ consultancy was going from strength to strength, a good job too, as despite all my enthusiasm I struggled towards the end of my pregnancy and the last thing I wanted to focus on was the finer details of event management. Turned out Jennifer’s heart wasn’t into the corporate side of things and having beautifully co-ordinated our, ‘shotgun’ wedding, as my mother still refers to it, she turned her attention to that side of things. So guilt free, from the moment the boys arrived, I’ve been lucky enough, in fact its been my privilege to enjoy every moment with them. I don’t always feel that way, particularly after I find a half chewed sandwich secreted behind a cushion or feel something smeared down my leg but they’re a joy. So yeah, why not, one more, what harm could it do?
‘Earth to Luce, where’d you go?’ I smiled.
‘You do remember that conversation we had, shortly after the boys were born, don’t you? The one in which I said, I’m glad we’ve got two and I’ll never have to go through that again. No. Repeats!’
Gracing me with his beautiful smug grin, he took the glass from my hand, placing it on the table. ‘Hmm, I do, but you said that once before sweetheart and look where that got us…’
Acknowledgements
It goes without saying that in order for me to put all the rambling thoughts that circulate in my mind onto paper, there are a number of people I need to thank. Firstly, my husband; for your never ending support, for not batting an eyelid when my writing retreat in the UK turned into a week in the Sardinian sunshine, for wanting to be the first to read my book and for being so completely obsessed with American Football I can freely type away until the early hours of the morning, guilt free.
To my first beta reader, for your friendship, support and encouragement Jasmine; I am tremendously grateful.
To my friends and family, for always asking, “How’s it going?” Little do you know, but your interest always spurs me on.
Lastly, to you! I hope you have enjoyed following Marcus and Lucy’s story. If you read, "Catching a Butterfly” I hope "No Repeats” lived up to your expectations. If you’ve not yet had the pleasure, you can discover how the pair first meet through their best friends, Ethan and Alicia. “Catching a Butterfly” is available in the Amazon store.
