Legacy of Dolyn Page 23

by Amelia Guillem

I sit up on my bed and cry. Agnes sits next to me on edge. Maury and Aster remain silent, standing by the door. As for Moros, I don’t know. I assume he disappeared.

“Dumb cat!” I sobbed. “She said to tell me her problems. But she never told me her problems. And now she’s gone forever.”

I knew she was dead before. But to me, she was still alive. I felt her warmth every night. Her laughter, her joy, her frustration... all of it. I learned medieval history from her as much as I taught her the modern world. We had a lot of fun. Things weren’t easy when we met, but we got along. She took care of me like the mother I never had.

“I want to see her. I want to see her again.” My tears drop to the duvet. My friends cry as well. Agnes continues to hug and rub my back.

“We’ll be outside if you need us,” Aster said. He and Maury exit my room.

Agnes and I remain alone. The lights in my room are still off. Only the streetlights bright through the windows. Snow began to fall.

“It’s been a while, Lady Glendolyn,” a voice whispered.

I’ve heard it before. It’s like Agnes but deeper. Now I remember: Agnes is possessed by Liz. Right now, Liz is sitting next to me, hugging the same way Agnes did.

  “Liz...”

“I know. Don’t say anything. Gwen knew. She knew she had to sacrifice her life. She loved you so much. She wanted you to live, and now it’s up to you to live your life. Your real test shall commence from this day forward. But you must make the best choice for your decisions. Choose the wrong one, and you’ll live in regret.”

Still sobbing, I hold on to Liz. She hugs me with a serene look. Like a mother comforting her child. Heh, I should know better. Liz was a mom too.

“Tell me. What should I do?”

I have no idea what to do now. I’m so lost. But I need to keep living. Gwen gave her life. I swear I’ll continue where she left off. None of us deserve to suffer. She trained me. Therefore, I will put all my sorcery skills to use. Because I’m a sorceress, that’s why!
