‘Oh, right.’
I felt in my pocket and brought out the little bracelet. ‘It’s to say “thank you”,’ I muttered. I felt weird – full of embarrassment and pride and hope and pleasure, all mixed up together so they made an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. I dropped the bracelet into Tina’s palm.
‘For me?’ she said, gazing down at the chain. She pushed it gently with one finger. ‘It’s beautiful,’ she whispered. ‘It’s got a little heart on it.’ She looked up at me with shining eyes. ‘Is that your heart or mine?’
I bit my lip. ‘Mine,’ I said, in a faintly squeaky voice.
With regard to the unfortunate incident on

Streaker would like to point out that not all
female dogs can do that,
but she can
because she’s clever,
so there!
