“Two,” Roy said followed by a loud gunshot.
The girl moans in pain as she struggle to scream, blood running from her head.
“Oh damn, sorry my aim was a little out!” As he laughs out loud, with a face impression that just shows the world he loves doing this.
“Am I really going to let her suffer like this?” As he starts to think that they are long gone or she has a mind of steel he isn’t sure, suffering has always helped in the past to lure his victims out.
He aims at her back and pulls the trigger twice; she stops moaning as her suffering ends, he looks back at the last girl.
“What shall we do with you now?” Roy asked with a scary voice.
The girl keeps silent with not a single tear in her eyes, she already cut the rope keeping her hands together, she is just patiently waiting for him to get closer, and it’s a scary thought as he can shoot her from where he stands, however, she knows he is a pretty stupid guy that like to play with his victims.
Roy walks closer laughing at her, his laughter stops and he goes blank as a sharp object enters his cheek knocking against his teeth it drives shivers of pain as his teeth are rotten on the sides, before he can even aim the gun the girl stabs him in the chest. She grabs the gun before he falls down laying there on the hot tar road, Roy wants to get up but the pain of his teeth keeps him down on the ground holding his mouth tight, he manage to get up, still applying pressure on his cheek, a little in shock he sees the girl already in the distance running away.
Slight moans come from Roy but not a word, out of pure shock that a girl nearly killed him he rushes to the loaded car and drives of, reaching the barricades he can see that things are changing, these monsters got a lot more, ever since until now they always just responded to fast movements, not loud noises, instantly thinking of and evil plan to compromise the entire area, he removes on can of gasoline tips it over two of the cars. He breaks out a window and places the can on the back of the seat, he rushes back to the car and let the car idle loudly, he pushes the barricade open, reversing back, lighting a piece of cloth and tossing it over to the fuel he poured out earlier.
Feeling stupid enough, the cloth didn’t reach not even close, he gets out the car and lights it with a match rushing back to his car and drives of at maximum speed to the other side of the barricade repeating everything he did at the first blockade. He pushes the barricade open and drives around the block fast leaving the area, with high hopes those cars will explode and lure everything to them.
Shortly after thinking it the one explodes and another explosion straight after looking back in the mirror another one explodes, Roy is happy that his plan worked and he can see they are moving closer and closer to them.
Jason also heard the blast from a distance it wasn’t very loud, he doesn’t pay much attention until he sees the smoke due to burning tires he just knew that was his area, only his area has enough cars to make a smoke signal that good, it's bad he will never reach them in time, he starts walking back ignoring everything he saw, he knows he has to hurry it’s starting to get dark.
It’s getting dark the girl rushes over to the apartment where she saw the curtains move, she slows down immediately with fear as those things are in the street it’s not much but it’s enough to pin you down. She moves fast, low on the ground reaching the apartment she enters and in the close by rooms grabs objects to block down the door, also using the bigger objects to block the stairs.
Maggie is scared as she can hear someone is moving things around, she covers up Jacky with another blanket it’s dirty yet the cleanest that she could find. Maggie knows that there is no point going down there, she will just wait until she find him and deal with it then, for now, hiding will be better, it is what it is, that’s the only thing she can think of.
The girl finishes up, it's sloppy this won’t keep them away for long and no one wants to be trapped here with no way out, she heads up the stairs knowing exactly where she saw the curtains moved, she tries the open the door but it is clearly blocked she bumps the door with her shoulder, but it opens only an inch extra, painful as hell with no energy the girl tries to persuade them to open the door.
“Hey its ok I am not like them,” as she sits down next to the door against the wall.
Maggie remains silent and doesn’t make a peep.
“Please listen to me we need to get out of here before those things come in and block us,” The girl said.
“This is not the time to be scared look out the window and you will believe me,” The girl said while sighing.
Maggie crawls to the window to look through it, she freezes to see so many of those creatures it’s impossible to believe but now she understands why there were three explosions, good thing we hid outside the blockade, the blockade isn’t open on this side they are simply stacking up at the barricade, she crawls to door and finally replies.
“Ok I believe you, you better get in here you will want to see this,” Maggie said moving the object out of the way.
“Hurry up then, we need to go,” The girl said.
As soon as the door open the girl slips inside and goes straight to the window and realizes that it’s too late, she rushes to a room on the other side of the building and that side is even more, there is hundreds of them and more approaching, rushing back to the room to talk to Maggie.
“We can try and make a run for it,” The girl said, speaking fast and before Maggie could say anything.
“As soon as they get through that blockade, we should run for it,” The girl said, breathing fast, like she is stressing.
“We can’t stay here, they will eventually get inside,” the girl said fast it’s hard to keep up with her. Maggie stops her before she can say anything else.
“Look we can’t leave,” Maggie lowers the blanket revealing Jacky.
“This is my sister I can’t just leave her here to die,” Maggie said, looking sad.
“You can maybe make a run for it, but it’s not what you think it is,” Maggie said.
“This is the outside of the blockade, not the inside,” Maggie said.
“If you go out there you will most likely not even make it,” Maggie said.
“Past this blockade it’s a safe area but on the other side that blockade might be entirely open for them to come in,” Maggie said explaining.
Maggie still wanted to say something, but the girl cuts in before she could even finish her sentence.
“Yes you are right; I saw a few while I was coming here it won’t be any good to go out there,” The girl said fast.
“If we are to stay here, then we should gather everything that we can and block of the stairs,” The girl said, breathing fast.
“It’s only a safety precaution we need take,” The girl said, smiling.
“We can block the stairs then block this apartment door,” The girl said explaining.
“Yes that will make it harder for them to get up here if they ever got through the front door,” Maggie said agreeing, you can hear the fear in her voice.
Chapter 4: Captivity
It’s going good so far, the door isn’t well barricaded and we didn’t want to make any noise with them being so close, instead we removed most of the doors from the other apartments and barricaded the stairs at two points. The doors were not heavy enough so we used some furniture to and sadly five bodies, Ashley made pretty much sure they are dead by driving a screwdriver through their ears and hopefully straight to the brain, so far she seems to know what she is doing.
“Damn, I haven’t been so tired in a long time,” Maggie said with a long yawn.
“Tell me about it, I couldn’t sleep with that psychopath around,” Ashley sighs with relief.
“Who is he anyway, what did he want with you,” Maggie said, staring down at the floor where she is sitting next to Ashley.
“Well, if I need to start somewhere then I can easily say he is incredibly stupid,” Ashley smiling at Maggie almost laughing.
“I could tell
that much, from the so called countdown even though he started at one,” Maggie said sadly.
“You did what was needed, I would have done the exact same thing, trust me those girls would have done the same if you were in their shoes, they would let you die for their safety,” Ashley said, trying very hard to cheer up Maggie, but she knows it won’t be easy.
“Bet you are right, I just can’t forget their cries and faces and yet here you are and you seem pretty nice, they could have been nice as well,” With one single tear running down Maggie’s cheek.
“Well, it is what it is, nothing you could have done and nothing you can do about it now,” Ashley said in a soft gentle voice almost fading.
“I say that exact same thing,” Maggie smiling slightly, knowing she will get along with Ashley just fine.
“Even if he is stupid, he is also stubborn, he will be back,” With some shiver in Ashley’s voice, taking a few seconds break before she continues talking.
“Roy, his name is Roy, he might be stupid but he is extremely dangerous, I was entirely surprised when I escaped the way I did, if he didn’t freeze it would have been over for me or even worse,” Ashley said, staring down at the floor.
“It’s ok, you don’t have to tell me more, everything will be fine, beside he can’t get to us now, not with all those things on our door step and surely if he did come back to maybe make sure we are dead, then he won’t bother as all those things out side will be pretty much convince anyone that they ate everything that moved in this block,” Maggie said with some giggling.
Ashley joins in the giggling, both trying extremely hard not to laugh, Ashley finds it hard to believe that she is actually having fun, even if the conditions are really bad outside and things don't seem very good for them right now, Ashley gets up and walks to the window slowly and softly staring through the curtains.
“Hey come look here,” Ashley said with excitement.
Maggie crawls to the window and see something she couldn’t believe, even though there is still many left, they are moving and spreading out quickly and maybe soon they will be able to sneak past and leave the area with her sister. They will have to move a few blocks and dad won’t be able to find us unless I can find a way to leave markers, though the chance he would see it will be 1 out of 10 unless its big and if its big then so will this Roy guy see where we are going, if he ever had to return.
For now I am going to call it a night and sleep while I can, Ashley agreed she to is tired, I can’t imagine all the trouble she had to go through, hopefully all this change now for her, sure it’s still not looking good and nothing will be easy, still no one needs trash like him around.
Maggie crawls in next to Jacky, while Ashley sleeps in front of the window, facing the door, gun ready next to her, both ready to sleep, surely the extra energy will be needed at any time.
Its late night, its dark, Jason stare through the window of a car, where he will be hiding until daytime, in a distance he can see a car approaching slowly, with all the noise you can clearly hear that car will die at any moment, the car slows down even more. Jason slipped out of the car he was hiding in; he doesn’t want to be pinned down in a small space like that if that car had to stop.
The gears slip over and over again making a loud sound, the car stops only a few meters passed Jason, Roy got out of the car, cursing and kicking the car, he grabs a bucket and starts fueling up another car, Jason still in hiding, staring and observing what this guy is doing.
Jason hear the Walkie-Talkie go of, it’s just interference from something, no one is on the other end of the line, Jason can see that this guy has a lot of supplies on the back seat, knowing he needs to make sure it’s not his, since he came from that direction, lucky for both of them those things are distant so no need to worry about them just yet.
Jason can see that this man is incredibly injured, there is an entire laceration in his right cheek, it looks horrible, and he could also tell that he must have a wound somewhere on his chest, since he has been holding that the entire time; the man falls hard on his knees coughing. Jason waits a little longer, waiting for this guy to get up or either to die on the spot, soon after he gets up laughing, he unlocks the boot and starts to carry the raided goods over to the new car he filled up, he struggles, still Jason can’t recognize the supplies, it’s too dark.
With all the struggling Roy gives up, figuring he loaded enough, he will just send his brother to come fetch the rest of it, Roy hotwires the car and accelerate straight. Jason kept his eyes on the vehicle until it’s far down the road, he rushes over to the abandoned car and is furious, when he saw the remaining food, its marked with two crosses and the number One as a marker in case something like this ever had to happen, as much as Jason wants to go back to check on his girls, it will be simply impossible, somehow that car attracted hordes of them, they seem to follow the sounds more clearly now.
Its defiantly a problem, there is way too many to try and slip by, in fact there is so many a car won’t even be able to go through them.
Here is still some supplies left in the car, he loads everything into a truck and uses the keys that was hidden under the seat in a small key holder, he starts the truck and see that the tank is nearly full, it should be easy to lure them to where ever that man is going. Jason figures he will go back where he saw the much older man on the Walkie-Talkie possibly one that knows the one that stole the supplies.
Jason drives down the road slowly before he stops and wait for those things, it seems to be working fine, knowing this will be boring as hell he continues this method almost half way before he drives of slightly further simply to take a break, it must be early morning by now, it’s still dark though, waiting for a few minutes, they can almost touch the back of the truck. Jason starts up again and continues his method, getting close to his destination; it’s been one hell of a long trip and a very boring one.
Being able to see almost clearly with the sun about to rise, Jason can see that his plan is surely failing, many of them fell behind and then of course there is a few fast aggressive ones on his tail, betting he might as well give the few remaining ones the slip and go fourth making a new plan, knowing the one thing he accomplished with his failed plan was making the way back much more challenging as the truck is loud they will be everywhere with more on the way.
Leaving the truck while in motion Jason slips between parked cars and trash unseen, the truck crashes nearby but its far enough for Jason to make his escape to the nearest and safest building.
This office looks extremely old, like it was empty for years, way before all this even started, it might not be the safest place to hide as the front has one big window with no blinds or even curtains, still this is a good look out point and those thing won’t really be capable of breaking this glass it looks thick and shatter proof.
Jason starts marking down the area they were in, he marks down all the important information, recalling that he only saw two guys one younger than the other of course the injured guy might be part of them yet again, he can’t do anything since he seems in a pretty bad condition, bad enough that he won’t be able to put up a good fight at all, leaving me to mostly just deal with two, with only one problem they both carried semi-automatic rifles that can make things much harder.
Jason draws a map from what he can remember and seeing that his best bet would be to sneak in and take at least one down, silently of course, and then try the other one, if he could only get a better weapon, then confrontation shouldn’t be a problem.
Sneaking in the apartment building could give me the opportunity to put one down on the spot, the fact still crosses Jason’s mind that he should maybe make sure they really is stealing there is no point in rushing into things, yet again Maggie wouldn’t have allow them to take supplies and on another note she won’t give anything either, beside water and some food but not this much. Jason is convinced that they stole it and maybe have harm his daughters to do so, it’s best to just deal with people like this and get
it over with, it has always worked this way.
“Luke! How is Roy doing?” The man asks in a rough thick voice.
“Pretty bad, seems like someone got him good with a knife or another sharp object,” Luke said all confused.
“Will he make it?” As the man spits to the floor where Roy is sleeping on a sheet covered with blood.
“Not sure, like I said, he is in a very bad condition,” Luke stares the man in his eyes.
“Dead weight, he is useless to me!” As the man takes aim ready to fire his gun, one shot to the head and it will be over fast and painless.
“Dad wait, don’t shoot,” Luke responds fast pulling the gun down to the floor.
“I tried stitching him up, it’s rough but it really helped with the bleeding, give him some time and he might get better, please just three days, that’s all I ask you,” Luke said stressing.
“He can’t do anything right, he didn’t bring those two girls, that should have been a fairly easy task!” The man says angrily.
“Now we will never get those supplies!” The man said with spit as he shouts it out.
“It’s ok, I will go get them, I will even get the supplies if there is no one else, we don’t know that, maybe that’s what Roy tried and then there were more than just the two girls at home,” Luke responds calmly, hoping to convince his dad not to shoot Roy.
“No, get Roy back up his feet! He will do the task given to him! Not You!” His eyes are red, with veins sticking through under his skin on his forehead, a clear sign that he is extremely angry.
“Sure no problem, I will have him up and ready in no time,” Luke said, with relieve that his dad is at least giving him the opportunity to recover.
Luke grabs some thin fishing line and a thick needle, adding more stitches one by one trying to cover up more of the wounds and trying to redo the ones he did bad, its seems to be working nicely though it will leave some bad scars as the stitching is still embarrassingly bad.
