The sun was shining brightly from a clear blue sky and birds chirped from somewhere nearby. Steve, who was conducting the service, was already inside, and Ruth would be handing out the hymn books.
A lot had happened since Lily arrived at Guilford Crossing. She had found love, friends, and a feeling of belonging for the first time in years.
“Can we go inside?” Annie tugged at Lily’s skirt.
“In a minute when your Pa gets back. The little girl had asked to call Matt Pa instead of Uncle and Lily Ma. It was pleasing Annie wanted to do this. It cemented them as a family.
They would make sure she never forgot her mother, who now rested in the local cemetery, where they could visit her. Much better for Rachel to be resting close to friends and family instead of a lonely grave in New Orleans.
Matt strode up with a wide grin creasing his handsome face. “How are my three beautiful girls doing?”
“You took a long time, Pa. I want to go inside and see Freddie. She’ll be waiting for us.”
“What about Alex and Alfie?” Lily asked.
“Who knows with those two, I’ve given up even trying to work out what they’ll do next.”
Matt linked one arm through Lily’s and held Annie’s hand. “I’m proud of my three girls. I’m the luckiest man in the whole of Texas.

About the Author
Margaret Tanner is an award winning, bestselling Australian author, who writes Historical Romance and Western Romance. She loves delving into the pages of history as she carries out research for her historical romance novels. No internet site is too boring, no book is too old or tattered for her to trawl through, no museum too dusty. Many of her novels have been inspired by true events, with one being written around the hardships and triumphs of her pioneering ancestors in frontier Australia. She once spent a couple of hours in an old prison cell so she could feel the chilling cold and fear.
Margaret is married with three grown up sons and two gorgeous little granddaughters.
