Visions of Destiny (Complete Series) Page 39

  “You should.”

  “Why?”

“I’m sure Mike will thank you afterwards.”

She started to say something, but Sam shook his head and started for the door again, walking backward and bumping into a sofa and dresser on his way. “No, I’m not saying another word. You know my policy.”

Her lips twisted into a grin. “Denial doesn’t look good on you.”

He blew her a kiss and left with a smile.

They didn’t speak as Sam drove Daisy home. Maybe they had talked too much during the evening, babbling and laughing and simply enjoying each other’s presence. Maybe it was time to show silence could be just as comfortable as conversation.

They arrived at her apartment building far too soon. Sam hopped out of the car as soon as he had stopped the engine and hurried to open the door for her. She shook her head as though to say he didn’t have to, but took his hand nonetheless and allowed him to help her out of the car.

As she stood there, clinging to his fingers, Sam was taken once again by how lovely she looked. When he had picked her up earlier that night, he had had to stop for a moment and simply enjoy the sight of her. She was wearing a white dress with large black poppy flowers, and a light scarf was draped over her bare shoulders. A small gold pendant was nestled at her throat, and the freeform heart gleamed softly on her chest when light from a streetlamp hit it.

He held her hand as he accompanied up the front steps of the building and to the door. They stopped there, but neither of them let go quite yet.

“I had a lovely time,” she said with a soft smile.

  “So did I.”

“And the flowers were beautiful, thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” Sam couldn’t stop himself from grinning widely as he asked, “Did you catch the name of the delivery guy?”

Daisy frowned briefly. “The name… What?” He could see her think for a second before she shook her head. “Huh… no. But he was from the same shop I used to send Mike’s flowers.”

“Yes. It’s a small shop. There’s just one delivery truck.”

Sam could see the moment when she understood. Her eyes widened, and she smiled. “Peter, wasn’t it?”

  He nodded.

“I thought you didn’t share other people’s visions,” she said with a cluck of her tongue.

Sam feigned taking offense at the implication. “I didn’t say anything, did I? It’s not my fault if you’re smart and you catch on too fast.”

  She laughed quietly. “You’re impossible.”

“I am, indeed,” Sam replied very seriously. “And I’m going to kiss you now.”

Her fingers tightened over his. “I know,” she said, just as seriously. “And I’m going to let you.”

  Sam squeezed back. “I know.”

He leaned in slowly, laid his mouth on hers, and closed his eyes. Her lips were soft, warm, and after a second or two they parted against his. He ran the tip of his tongue along the seam, and her tongue came out to invite him to play. His arms slipped around her waist, her hands clutched his shoulders, and what had started as a gentle goodnight kiss was suddenly a lot more than that.

This was the moment Sam had been waiting for—hoping for—since he had been a teen. There was no vision to confuse either of them, no glimpse of a future they wouldn’t share and that would change everything between them. The only things that existed were the two of them and this moment.

He only hoped there would be many other moments like this one ahead of them.

The bell at the top of the front door chimed when Sam opened it. Daisy looked back to wave at her friends, seated in the back of the bar, and they waved back. She finally stepped outside, and after a wave of his own Sam followed her.

As soon as the door closed behind them, the volume of music and voices from inside the bar dropped to the level of background noise. Daisy looked up at him and smiled.

  “That was fun, wasn’t it?”

Sam took her arm and threaded it through his before starting toward the parking lot. “It was,” he said with a glance back at the bar. A banner proclaiming ‘Grand Opening Tonight’ hung on the facade. “It looks like a nice place. I’m sure Brett will be very successful.”

They took a few steps before he realized she was looking at him curiously. He figured out what question she wasn’t asking and rolled his eyes as he amended his words.

“I’m sure of it because everyone in there seemed to be having a good time, not because I saw it in a vision.”

“I didn’t say anything,” she protested, but the glittering edge of a laugh was shining in her words.

Sam bent down to kiss her lightly, but somehow the kiss changed into something deeper, and soon their arms were wrapped around each other. When they pulled away, they were both out of breath. Daisy grinned at Sam.

“I’ve been wanting to do this all evening,” she breathed, leaning against him.

Sam buried a chuckle against her temple. “Now you know how I felt on New Year’s Eve.”

She huffed lightly and started to walk again. He caught up with her after a few steps, and they soon reached the car. Sam opened the door for her and closed it once she was seated, before coming to the driver’s side.

“Is it weird?” she asked after they had been on the road for a few minutes. “To be around people you’ve given a vision to, I mean.”

Sam shrugged. “Not particularly. I’m used to it. And it’s nice to meet the people I only saw in someone else’s vision.”

He glanced at her and caught her nodding. She had to understand that last part.

Almost every person whose future he had read at the New Year party had come to the opening of Brett’s bar, plus two men he had only met through visions before: Ben and Peter, each seated next to their respective dates, Alicia and Mike. Only Jack had been missing, and while Lydia had made an excuse for him, explaining that he had been called in to investigate a vampire attack, Sam had caught a couple of glances exchanged around the table. Not everyone believed the excuse. Sam didn’t. He didn’t think Daisy did either.

In the past months, Jack’s absence during such outings had become the rule, and every time he missed a dinner party Sam waited a little warily for the question to rise. Had Jack received a vision? What had he seen that had pushed him to withdraw like this? No one had asked so far, however. Daisy had not raised the question either, although she knew more than she should have.

Sam had no real answer. Maybe being around his friends and pretending to be happy when he and Lydia were so clearly falling apart was too difficult for Jack. Or maybe a sense remained, at the back of his consciousness, that sooner or later he would be away from his friends and family, separated not merely by his own choices and distance, but also by his fangs and hunger for blood. Whatever the case, Sam could only be relieved that no one asked him about it—and happy that his days of witnessing the moments that changed other people’s lives were over.

“You’re very quiet suddenly,” Daisy said softly, leaning over to rest her cheek against his shoulder. “What’s on your mind?”

They were on the highway, and he didn’t need to do much with the steering wheel, so he took the opportunity to slip his arm around her waist.

“Not much,” he said softly, stroking her hip with his thumb. “Just thinking about how lucky I was to find you.”

She didn’t reply, but when he glanced down at her, he could see that she was smiling.

They finished the ride in a comfortable silence, and only a few minutes later Sam was parking in front of Daisy’s apartment building. He stepped out with her and accompanied her to the front steps, like he always did. When he started saying goodnight, however, she took his hand and cleared her throat.

“Would you like to come up?” she asked, her voice quie
t but her eyes already burning.

Sam’s heart leapt in his chest—and his cock twitched. “I’d like that very much, yes.”

Her fingers entwined with Sam’s, and they climbed the two flights of steps together. They didn’t let go of each other when she unlocked the door, or even when they stepped in and toed off their shoes.

Sam had been in her apartment before for dinner, and once or twice they had curled up on the sofa and watched a movie together, so he knew the layout of the place already and the kind of décor she favored: quiet, neutral colors of the walls and furniture that managed to be simple yet sophisticated.

He had never been in her bedroom, however, and he stopped on the threshold when she finally let go of his hand. The room was like the rest of her apartment, uncluttered and soothing, antique furniture put into relief by cream walls.

“Give me a second,” she said and pressed a quick peck to his lips.

He watched her as she moved around the room lighting almost two dozen tea candles.

“Looks like someone had plans for tonight,” he said, barely suppressing a chuckle.

She came back to him at last and flicked the light switch off so that the room was now bathed in the soft, muted light of the candles. “You’re telling me you didn’t?” she asked, tongue in cheek.

When she rested her hands on his shoulders, Sam realized she was trembling slightly. From excitement or nerves, he couldn’t have said. He hoped it was the former.

“All I’m telling you is that I love you,” he replied, and cupped her face with his hand.

Holding her gently, he caressed her mouth with his own. She let out a little sigh against his lips and deepened the kiss. He could still taste a hint of the wine she had had at the bar on her tongue; her lips were sweeter still.

She was the first to let go of his shoulders. She dropped her hands to the front of his shirt and started undoing the buttons one by one with slow, languid gestures. In no time at all, she was tugging the shirt out of his pants and pushing it off his shoulders. Sam lowered his arms so that the shirt could fall off him. Daisy made a small, appreciative noise and trailed her hands over his chest, finding her way down to his belt and the fly of his pants.

Sam took this as his cue to start doing the same for her. No buttons or buckle for him: all he had to do was pull the long zipper that ran down the back of Daisy’s dress, then slide the spaghetti straps down her shoulders, one at a time, with a kiss pressed to each bare shoulder in turn.

Her dress slid down at the same time his pants did. They both stilled, standing in front of each other in nothing more than their underwear, black satin panties and bra for Daisy, and plain cotton boxers for Sam. Their hands had fallen away from each other, and for a few seconds they only looked at each other.

Daisy was quite simply exquisite. Sam had known she would be; her curves were generous, and she dressed to their best advantage. But to see her like this, almost but not quite nude, her nipples already peaking against the fabric of her bra, her eyes darkened with desire, her skin glowing in the light of the candles… He had never wanted her as much as he did right then.

The moment was broken when Sam’s cock, already engorged, thickened a little more in the confines of his boxers and, bobbing up, brushed against Daisy’s thigh. As though it were a signal, they moved toward each other again. This time, their hands clutched flesh as their mouths found each other once more.

Leaving their clothes into a heap on the floor, they stumbled together toward the bed. Sam’s hands were running along Daisy’s sides and back, darting up occasionally to brush against the underside of her bra or down to skim against her panty-clad ass. He wanted to touch more of her, all of her, but they had time. They had all the time in the world.

They climbed onto the bed together without letting go of one another, kneeling at first, then lying down on their sides, their bodies brushing against each other from their toes all the way to their mouths.

They started kissing again, and Sam grew bolder with his touching, no longer caressing her side and back only but finding his way to palm one breast then the other, above the bra first, then flesh on flesh after he fumbled to take her bra away.

“What are you thinking?” Daisy asked, pressing the words the same way she would kisses against Sam’s collarbone. Her hand had become adventurous, too, and was stroking the length of his cock through the fabric of his boxers. It pulsed with need with each slide of her hand.

Sam’s fingers circled one of her tight nipples, and he hummed softly. “I’m thinking I’ve never slept with anyone without knowing they’d soon love someone more than they loved me.”

A quiet little snort rose from Daisy’s throat, and she lifted her head to look at his face. She batted at Sam’s chest playfully.

“I’m not sure whether you’re a romantic or a jerk. Thinking of other girls when you’re in bed with me?”

He captured her hand and brought it to his mouth to kiss her fingers one by one.

“No,” he said, looking at her from beneath his eyelashes. “Not thinking of them. Thinking that being with them never meant as much as this.”

He pressed closer and laid his mouth on hers again. He’d never tire of kissing her—of being able to kiss her without images of the future intruding on their present. Each kiss only made him realize how much he had missed this simple connection throughout his dating life.

As they kissed, he slid a hand down her body and between her legs. Her panties were damp already, like his boxers were wet where the tip of his cock was slick with precome. When he traced the outline of her folds with a finger, the fabric clung to her.

“Off?” he asked in a murmur.

  “Off.”

She pulled at his boxers at the same time as he pulled at her panties. They shimmied and tugged and rubbed against each other, grinning when they got in each other’s way.

Without needing to talk, they let go of the other’s clothes. Sam kicked his boxers off while Daisy pulled her panties down her legs. At last, they lay naked next to each other, and nothing stood between Daisy’s hand and Sam’s cock. He shuddered when her fist started to slide up and down his length, at times loose and at times tighter. He finally touched her heat, his fingers pressing against wetness, soft flesh, and a hard nub that he quickly focused on.

Every flick, pinch, and caress to her clit made Daisy’s body jerk against Sam, her fingers clench over his cock, and soft, breathless moans rise from her throat. Another time, he promised himself. Another time he would make her come with nothing but his fingers and cradle her against his body as she writhed and came. Another time, but not now. For their first night together, he wanted to come with her, soar with her—but if she continued to stroke him like that, it might not happen.

“Daisy…” To his own ears, Sam’s voice was thick with his desire. Could Daisy hear how much he wanted her? “Can I—”

She stopped him mid-question with a brief but fiery kiss that stole his breath. When she rolled away from him, he made a quiet sound of protest. She returned quickly, however, her fingers already tearing at the foil wrapper she had pulled from her night table. Sam had carried one of those in his jacket pocket for a few weeks already, but he had left his jacket in the car. Laughing silently, he kissed the corner of Daisy’s mouth, then her chin. She tutted.

“Behave,” she chastised. “I’m trying to do something here.”

But she wasn’t only trying. Her firm little hand had closed over Sam’s cock again. She gave it two hard tugs before pressing the condom to the tip and sliding it down in one fluid motion.

“And yes,” she said, her words low, almost like a purr. “You can.”

Still on her side, she slid closer to him. He rested a hand on her thigh and accompanied her movement when she slipped her leg over his, opening herself to him. He started to press forward, too impatient to resist, but her hand dropped
between them.

“Let me,” she murmured, and took hold of his cock again to guide it inside her. The tip slipped in, and they both sighed—then shared a grin and a quick kiss at their mirrored reaction.

She hadn’t let go of his cock, and for a moment her thumb and index finger remained wrapped like a ring around the base, squeezing rhythmically as they arched toward each other and retreated in turns, falling into a slow, easy pace.

Sam let his hand play over Daisy’s body at the same rhythm, caressing her thigh, her ass, her waist, her breasts, and her shoulder in long, sweeping motions. She was burning against him, around him, tight and firm, and with each gliding thrust to her core Sam’s desire climbed a little higher.

Sam shifted his hips, changing his angle, and Daisy answered with a quiet little moan. She finally released his cock, allowing him to slide inside that final inch. She shuddered against him and clutched at his shoulders, her fingernails pricking him gently.

The fire licking along Sam’s spine reached a new intensity, and he couldn’t contain himself anymore. With a push of his hips, he rolled Daisy onto her back and surged inside her. Holding himself on his forearms above her, he found leverage and thrust as hard as he needed to, and harder still after that as he increased his rhythm.

“Oh God!” Daisy gasped, arching her throat out and pushing her breasts up. The tips of her hardened nipples brushed against Sam’s chest, branding him with that most delicate of touches. Her hands were clenched tightly on Sam’s shoulders.

Her legs rose, one after the other, coming up to wrap around Sam and hold him, draw him tighter against her and inside her. Sam lost all notion of time. He watched her and enjoyed the pleasure in her eyes and her moans almost as much as he relished the pressure of her body encompassing him. His hips continued to snap forward of their own accord, and soon they reached a crescendo so intense it couldn’t continue any longer. It shattered with a cry from Daisy: Sam’s name, and all her love contained in that one syllable.

Sam thrust inside her one last time, his body locking in an arch above her as his orgasm crashed through him, sweeping every thought out of his mind. After a few more seconds, he couldn’t hold himself up anymore and laid himself over her trembling body, pressing breathless kisses all over her face.
