“It’s simple and all I need you to do, Melody, is to play along like you have been all this time. The Guild will be outraged and you’ll have to live with the knowledge that you killed her before I end you too.”
He places the sword at her neck. Luna is full on sobbing now, but she keeps her eyes on me. She’s telling me she loves me. At the look in her eyes, I feel sick.
But nothing can overpower the fury roaring in my veins. All of a sudden, every memory of my father flashes before my eyes. The distance he’s put between us, the resentment he had in his eyes when I catch him staring. The weight of his disappointment.
Every day I lived with that, flattened under the pressure, then rising above it when I used it to drive me to my goals, to best him in whatever I could. And for what? Only to see that he wasn’t worth all of that all along. Only to catch a glimpse of the real him, not the man who ruled the Guild, but the man beneath it, the man whose hatred for demons runs so deeply, he’s willing to kill not only the woman who has been by his side through everything, but his daughter.
And there’s no remorse. Only satisfaction. He thinks he’s won.
Suddenly, I’m being lifted off the ground. Lucifer reads my mind, knows that there’s no way either one of us will be able to get to him on our own two feet before he kills Luna. So, he picks me up and with all the strength he can muster, he throws me.
I zoom through the air, colliding into Mr. Black before he can register what’s happening. We both go through the glass and gravity bears down on us.
Even so, I’m wrestling. I don’t think about the fact that we’re falling from nearly a hundred stories up. I don’t think about the fact that my skin is shredded with broken glass and that that same broken glass flies around us, still posing a danger. I just wrestle.
I caught him off guard and the shock is still on his face. He tries to keep ahold of the sword, but with the wind rushing past us, it’s difficult. It’s just as difficult for me to get a decent hold, but I keep fighting, kicking and punching though the wind beating against us hinders my movement.
But the moment I grab ahold of the sword, I know. My fingers wrap around the grip, secured against the negative effects, though nothing prepares me for the rush of invigoration that courses through me.
Mr. Black gasps, as if some of his strength has been drained. He grapples with me to regain the sword, but now, with my newly found strength, I use only a hand to shove him away, pushing him further down to the ground.
I land on top of him again, wrapping my legs around him. Mr. Black reaches for my head, to use his ability, but I punch him in the face, feeling the satisfying crunch. Blood spurts out at me, then floats away into the open air. In the distance I hear screaming. People are watching us fall, anticipating our bodies splattered on the ground beneath us.
So do I, truthfully, but I don’t stop to focus on that fear. I only look into the eyes of my father, watching realization dawn in his eyes. “You said I curse too much, didn’t you?” I say to him over the roar of the wind. “But fuck that, daddy dearest. And fuck you.”
I drive the sword home.
He gasps, hands flying to the blade as if trying to pull it out. But the damage is done. The sword has killed him, and I watch as he realizes that a second before the light fades from his eyes.
I let go. It’s over, I think to myself as I let myself free fall, preparing to meet my end. It’s all over.
Epilogue
Lucifer is the one who catches me. The moment I land in his arms, we’re gone and then we’re present again, only this time, I’m in the bedroom of one of Lucifer’s earthly residences.
“She’s very capable of teleporting herself,” Brotus reminds him.
“That I am,” I confirm, a small smile on my lips.
After the whole affair with my father I needed some time to breathe. And who could blame me. It’s not every day that a girl has the ‘honor’ of killing both her mother and her father. That kinda thing is bound to fuck just about anyone up – hunter or not. The men…my men, were kind enough to plan a vacation far far away from where any of the chaos ensued. So, here we are, on an island off Mexico’s coast. An island that belongs to Lucifer of course. And here I am doing everything to clear my mind, testing just how much adrenaline courses through my veins.
“We wouldn’t have let her get hurt,” Merlidon adds, stepping to my side. This isn’t the first time he’s gone head to head with Lucifer about what I’m allowed to do.
“I’m also not a child,” I say and flop down on the bed the way a child would.
“No more deep sea diving without equipment. No more jumping off cliffs. No more throwing yourself off airplanes and trusting these bastards to catch you.” Okay, so outside of the deep sea diving, he was wrong. Jumping out of an airplane is one thing. Doing it without a parachute is a whole new level of invigorating.
“He’s such a ball buster,” I whisper in Brotus’ direction. “But seriously Lucifer, you brought us here so that I could have fun, be free, let go.”
“And you get to have fun…be free…let go…without trying to kill yourself.”
Merlidon raises a hand, joining in on my childish mocking.
“What is it?” Lucifer grunts.
“I’m not sure if I should be offended or not.” He purses his lips together, suppressing a smile.
“Offended about what now, Merlidon?”
“You’re basically saying Melody trusting us to catch her is the same as committing suicide?”
Brotus raises a hand too, but doesn’t wait for Lucifer to look in his direction before he speaks. “I think we can all agree that there’ll be no more suit-free diving. Not unless we want Melody to piss in our mouths again.”
“I did not pee in –“
Okay, so maybe I peed a little. But holy hell, you try having a Great White chase you up the surface.
“He merely-“ Merlidon starts and I snap my gaze in his direction, rendering him silent.
Lucifer opens his mouth again. He’s been silent long enough to find something else to scold me about. Rather than waiting for it, I leap to my feet and strip out of my shorts and t-shirt. “I’m gonna go shower, now,” I say and start toward the bathroom. As soon as I’m at the door, I rid myself of the tiny pieces of fabric covering my breasts and pussy. No one says anything. They just stare. Not just at my back, but at my full reflection that can be seen in the mirror ahead.
One at a time, I meet them eye to eye, studying their gazes as they study me. “The invitation’s open for whoever cares to join,” I say.
Merlidon looks to Brotus. Brotus looks to Lucifer. And like hungry dogs spotting a bone, they all rush forward at once.
When we’re in the shower, things fall into an unusually structured place, as though we’d done this a million and one times. I’d never thought that four people could fit together so perfectly. I’d also never thought that anyone would be able to work the chords of my body like their own person instrument. But here I am, high on the feeling of Brotus’ hands on my breasts, on the way Merlidon works my center with long strokes and the way Lucifer kisses me into half an oblivion.
My eyes fall closed, the pleasure too intense. One of the men guides my legs apart and willingly I succumb to the motion, scorching my throat with an ear-splitting moan as Lucifer nestles his head between my thighs. The moment Brotus slips a finger between my ass cheek and toys with my tight rim, I just about lose it. Soon enough, I’m of no use to myself. Back against the stone wall of the shower, each man takes his time to bring me past the point of no return. Merlidon is the first one to take me, slipping is thick cock deep into my center and driving me to an orgasm that causes stars to twinkle behind my eyes. By the time Brotus joins, I’m already wetter than the water pouring down on us. He spins me around, pressing my chest against the wall and takes me with no restraint at all. When Lucifer approaches, I’m too weak in the knees to hold myself up. He lifts me like I weigh nothing and on instinct I wrap my legs around him and g
lide into a finale that couldn’t be any grander.
Perfect.
There’s really no other word to describe this. No other word to describe them.
“I have no idea how I’ve spent my entire life without you by my side,” I say to them and it’s one hundred percent the truth.
“Luckily, there’s no getting away from us now.” Merlidon’s the one who says the words, coupling his statement with the most delicate of kisses to my temple.
