When I finally pull back and straighten up, she’s smiling at me so brightly that I’m dazzled.
“I can’t believe you just told me you’re pregnant that way,” I scold her, but no way am I mad. It’s so Mac-like for her to have pranked me that way.
She laughs and leans in to kiss me again. “Surprise.”
I bring my mouth to hers again, kissing her more softly, and then resting my forehead against her so our breath mingles with each other. Bringing my hand up to rest on her lower stomach, I tell her, “I love you so much, baby.”
“Not half as much as I love you,” she murmurs, brushing her lips against mine.
“Ten times as much as I love you,” I top her.
“But with only three-quarters of the intensity by which I love you,” she quips.
My mind goes blank, and I’ve lost track of the math. No matter, I love her to infinity and I will love our child just the same. I’ll love her until the day I die, and then I’ll love her from beyond. I’ll love her in the next life, and then whatever comes after that.
I just… I just love her.
