by Bonnie Vane

“I had the perfect evening planned, with rose petals and champagne and violins, the works. But I just couldn’t wait anymore. I figured this was as memorable an occasion as that whole flower thing. And I figured now that you’re a big star, I have to let you know how I feel before you fly away from me forever.”

Maxie smiled at him. “There is no other pearl to be found in the dark folds of life. That’s the next line from that Les Mis quote.”

“Is that ... is that a yes?”

She took the ring out of the box and tried it on her left hand. “A perfect fit.”

  “So ...?”

“On one condition. You have to give me electric guitar lessons.”

“And you can teach me acoustic. After all, we’ll be spending a lot more time together. As in, say, sixty years.”

“That should be long enough. If you’re a good student.”

“Does Miss Celebrity want to get a head start at the cabin next weekend?”

To hell with Victor Hugo or Shakespeare or any other author. Words weren’t enough to answer that question. So she replied in the best way she knew how—after locking the storage room first. Yep, she was going to need a lot of practice at this. Preferably every day for the rest of her life.

  Bonnie Vane

Author Bonnie Vane’s award-winning stories, poems, articles, and novels have appeared in dozens of national and regional publications and anthologies. Writing under various pen names, Bonnie enjoys stretching her literary wings across many different genres.

She thinks she may have been a mariner in a former life because she's always felt drawn to the sea. The Princes of the Potomac series arose out of that awe and love for coastal settings, including her own backyard stomping grounds in and around the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. Bonnie invites you to sail away with her on this journey into the saga of the Tannahill men and their turbulent lives and tempestuous loves.
