Waynell whispered to the ladies, “You know the owner of this restaurant, Coco…I found out she left Walter for some man in Chicago who…get this…is the real father of her baby girl.”
“Really,” Fredericka said as she sipped her wine.
“Yeah…but the guy she was messing with caught some drug case and is now locked up behind bars.” “That is some scandalous shit huh?”
“Speaking of Walter…what happened to him, didn’t he hook up with some girl name Dorinda?”
Vikki replied, “Yeah…he’s now with her and they are supposed to be getting married…you believe that?”
The women all looked at each other and said in unison, “ALL HELL NAW!”
They all began to laugh as the waiter came to their table. Waynell stood up and said, “I propose a toast, to us…girlfriends to the end!”
“Hear, hear,” the ladies said as they drank up their drinks and sat the glasses down on the table hard. Little did they know that they were being watched from a distance? In the corner booth just to the rear of the lounge, sat a mysterious person. She sat there watching them as she thought, “I always get what I want!” “Right now I just want you to be happy baby girl.” “Whatever it takes…you are my baby girl!”
She lit her cigarette as she got up to leave the restaurant. She glanced over to Vikki before she walked out the door. Vikki immediately saw her, nodding her head in acknowledgement of her. She smiled as she went out toward the limousine. As her chauffeur opened her door she threw down the cigarette to the ground, she got in, he shut the door. He ran around the car and got in asking her, “Where too…Lady Mistress?”
She smiled as she gazed in her compact mirror and said, “Take me to the Guild…the house of pleasure…I need a little excitement for the night!”
“Yes Ma’am…right away.”
He signaled as he pulled out of the parking lot and drove down the street.
She gazed out window as she observed the Kansas City skyline as she thought, “I fuckin’ own this town!” “My baby girl will soon own it too!”
This is how it was in this town and she knew it. She worked hard to make a name for herself and to get her baby girl back. As all the women learned in this past two year rollercoaster ride, everybody has a price, and that is what makes it all so scandalous!”
