Pursuing The Plug

“Shut up!” Hampsher shifted her weight from one side of her body to the other and jammed the gun into RahMeek’s chest.

One thing that he’d learned about Hampsher was that she was a bonafide killer. It was her true identity. If she wanted him dead, then she’d killed him the minute she got a clear shot. He wouldn’t have been able to live that long without being taken down. However, there was something that he knew about himself as well and that was the fact that he was prepared for that day. He was prepared for her return shortly after finding out about her existence.

There was no way she’d make it out of his house alive with Reign mere feet away, and Bella waiting for some action. His daughter was also trained to assassinate. She was more than his accountant. She was his personal weapon. While Rafeeq was emotionally attached to Hampsher, being that she carried his child, neither Reign nor Bella would give a fuck about dropping her in a second. He was aware that love played a monstrous part in decisions and would never place his son in the compromising position.

“I know you need someone to pin the blame on, and I will be the bad guy. But you must know that my people were ordered not to touch Harrah. I adored her spirit. She reminded me so much of my own wife—heartless with damn near more balls than me. The bullet that killed her...” RahMeek trailed off before taking another sip. “It was meant for your father. Imagine my surprise when discovering the feed from your home that night. Finding out that my suspicions of your father was correct. I wanted to rewind time the second I saw him duck behind your mother when bullets rang out, using her body to shield him from his ending.”

“You know nothing about my father.”

“I know too much. So much that I wish I didn’t. Your father is a coward. You possess more balls than he could ever imagine. You ever really considered why he fled the country?”

“He couldn’t handle the responsibilities of fatherhood.”

Chuckling, RahMeek was highly amused by Hampsher’s logic. “For you to be such a smart girl, you’re blind when it comes to that toxicity. It was his guilt that chewed him up inside as well as the fact that his days were numbered. Still to this day, he’s the only man that has ever gotten away from my grasp, and that is only because I’ve allowed it, knowing that his day would come.”

“And yours is upon you, so I guess you won’t live to see his.”

  “Or maybe you won’t either.”

The sound of Rafeeq’s voice startled Hampsher, but she had to hold her ground. She mentally chastised herself for allowing love to enter her soul. There was only one name left to scratch from her list, and she could just see it already.

  RahMeek “Meek” Jones

But with the disappointment that she heard in Rafeeq’s voice and the new information that RahMeek had given, she was at a crossroad. Everything that he said made perfect sense. If there was nothing else she knew about the man before her was that he was not a liar. His word was bond. That was a part of the code he lived by.

Lowering himself down the stairs, Rafeeq erased the distance between he and Hampsher. His gun was drawn, aimed, and ready to blast. As he watched her grip her own pistol that was pointed at his father, everything she’d ever told him had begun to register.

  “What do you want?”

“You father’s life for my mother’s life,” Hampsher admitted. “He’s caused me nothing but turmoil.”

“Wrong man. Your father. He’s your guy.” RahMeek took another sip of his drink.

“You’re something else.” Rafeeq shook his head. His heart had split what felt like a dozen times. “One thing I’ll give you credit for… you never cease to amaze me. Using me to get closer to my father?”

“I never needed you to get close to your father. I’ve spent my entire life getting close to your father without his knowledge. It wasn’t until you came into my life that this became complicated. I told you over and over to let me be. I ran as much as I could, and you still came after me. I’ve waited for this day my whole life, and I can’t let this moment slip away from me, Rafeeq. He has to die.”

  “So do you!” Rafeeq retorted.

“Rafeeq,” RahMeek called out to his son.

“The baby…” Hampsher considered the child she carried for him.

“Bitch, I know at least seven places I can shoot you and still keep you alive and breathing long enough to bare my child.”

Fuming, Rafeeq tightened his grip around his pistol and prepared to pull the trigger. Throughout the course of their encounters, Hampsher had grown to know him as a tolerable nigga while putting up with her bullshit and chasing her down from New York to Philly, but she had him all fucked up. It was love that he was a sucker for but not foolishly blind to. When it came to his family, he’d lay the entire city to rest without hesitation. Rafeeq wasn’t sure why his girlfriend had a gun aimed at his father, and he didn't give a fuck. All the silly shit he’d once proclaimed had quickly vanished at the sight.

Lord, forgive me for my sins, Rafeeq thought to himself before squeezing the trigger.

An array of bullets came surging through the window of RahMeek’s family home. The glass that he held in his hand was shattered by bullets before the first entered his chest. As he fell to the ground, more collided with his skin before making their entrance into his body. Though painful, nothing was more excruciating than watching his son maneuver and aim his gun out of the window and began firing before bullets began rippling through his body.

RahMeek watched his son’s body quake from the impact as blood leaked from his mouth while tumbling to the ground. Thick, solid tears cascaded down the father’s cheeks as he watched his son take his last breaths.

“Heavy!” he screamed before his own body succumbed to his injuries.
