by Barbara Cartland

The Marquis gave a little laugh as he said,

“That sounds very serious, but, my precious, while you will be the most beautiful Marchioness of Quorn there has ever been, you are going to work very hard to improve a great number of different things, help those who need it and inspire me.”

“I will love that,” Rocana murmured.

“And of course, apart from all these things that always lay in the back of my mind,” the Marquis went on, “was the fact that the woman I made my wife would also be the right sort of person to be the mother of my children.”

He watched Rocana blush and then said very softly and tenderly,

“I think, my darling, that when we have children they will be handsome and beautiful and also endowed from the moment they are born with the right ideals.”

Rocana hid her face against him before she said in a very small voice,

“Suppose I – fail you? Suppose I am not – good enough for – you?”

The Marquis lifted her chin again so that he could look at her.

“What I am really saying,” he said, “is that I am not good enough for you. But, darling, I am quite certain our magic will bring out the best in both of us.”

“That is what I know it will do!” Rocana cried. “And because I love you I will try to do – everything you – want of me.”

Because the way she spoke was so spontaneous and so sincere, the Marquis’s lips found hers.

As he kissed her, she felt once again rippling through her the strange fire that was love and magic and all the words he had said to her which were so beautiful.

They were not only part of their love but an enchantment from which they could never escape.

Then, as the Marquis’s kisses grew more insistent and she could feel the magic that came from him intensifying as it joined with the magic that came from her, he was once again carrying her up into the sky.

Then, as he made her his, there was only the rapture, the ecstasy and the glory of their love that came from God, belonged to God, and was theirs for all Eternity.
