“For the long haul?” I asked, searching his eyes. I needed to know that this wasn’t just another scheme of his. I couldn’t be another pawn, something he used to further his company and his place in the world.
My heart couldn’t take it.
“Are you asking if I’m committed to you?” He stroked my cheeks with his thumbs, kissing my forehead, my nose. “Why not come out and ask, then? Because the answer is yes. I love you.”
My eyes flew open wide. “You do?”
He touched his forehead to mine, sighing deeply. “I do. I love you.” It was as if he was testing the words out in his mouth, rolling them around to get the feeling of them. He wasn’t used to saying it, I could tell.
I decided to help him along. It was the least I could do. “I love you, too. I love you so much.”
Anything else I wanted to say was cut off by his kiss and the way he swept me up in his arms.
My heart soared as my body burned for him. I was never so happy in all my life, finally having everything I ever wanted. The career, the man, the promise of a happy, fulfilling future.
I had it all.
He crushed my body to his, telling me that he felt the same way.
I knew it wasn’t easy for him, giving his heart to someone else. I knew there would be roadblocks, fights—our tempers were too much to avoid fighting.
But we would always find a way through, because we were meant for each other.
I ran my hands over his back, his ass, his head. I hadn’t touched him in too long and my hands were thirsty.
The rest of me thirsted for him, too, and as he roamed my body, I groaned into his mouth. I burned for him, my core already aching and wet, wanting him inside me. Deep inside, driving out all thoughts of everything else except the sweet surrender and release he made possible.
He felt the same way, the hardness in his pants grinding against me as our kiss deepened even further. I whimpered in desperation, longing to touch his skin, wanting to tear his clothes off. I tangled my fingers in his hair, holding his head close to mine as our mouths fought for control.
Then the phone rang. Funny how quickly a moment can end.
Aaron chuckled, pulling away with an unhappy groan. I was too breathless to speak, but I forced myself to find some control. “Hello?”
“Just making sure everything’s okay in there,” Paula said. “Your inbox is blowing up.”
I rolled my eyes. “Thanks. I’ll be available in just a minute.” I hung up, putting my face in my hands. “Ugh. Not a moment’s peace.”
Aaron grinned, taking me in his arms. This time, he only held me. “Lesson one: there’s no such thing as a moment’s peace when you’re the boss.”
“Terrific. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the lessons.” I smirked, straightening his tie.
“I’m more than happy to go over them again and again if you need to. There are plenty of things I want to teach you. Things I think you need to . . . learn.”
I growled softly. “Oh, really? Something tells me this isn’t strictly business-related.”
“In a way, it is. How do you think I relieve stress after a long day?”
I laughed. “Fair enough. We’ll have to start our lessons tonight.”
Aaron’s dark eyes danced. “Just what I was hoping.”
