This Broken Road Page 19

  I think I’ll be okay.

  Acknowledgments

This book began sometime in ……2012? And then it got buried and eventually forgotten entirely until a couple years ago, when it became very obvious that it’s high time we address the heroin epidemic.

First and foremost, I have to thank my dear friend Jeff. It not for his insistence, this book would never have been pulled out of that dusty pile, never mind actually FINISHED, and now, published. He is a fellow author, and we should all be anxiously awaiting the release of the first (of what I imagine will be many) novels.

I also have to thank my mother, who, no matter how much she might not like the book or the story (or the fact that I stole some of her quirks to build up both of Angela’s parents’ personalities), she will always, ALWAYS read my books. And she will buy tons of them to give away to everyone she knows. Thanks, Mumsy.

A huge thank you to all of the people, who wish to remain anonymous, who helped me with making sure I got certain details as accurate as possible.

I would especially like to thank all of the musicians—formally credited at the beginning of this book—who not only responded to my enquiries within minutes, but also who gave me permission to reprint their lyrics. Their music, as well as the others mentioned in the book, is well worth listening to, which is why I have created a Spotify playlist entitled “This Broken Road – Angela’s Mix.”

For the bands that were quoted directly, their amazing music can be found on their websites, listed below:

16 Horsepower – These guys are no longer around and their website has apparently been taken down, but nearly all of their albums are available on Spotify and Youtube.

The genius behind most of their music, David Eugene Edwards went on to start a solo project:

Wovenhand – This music got me through one of the most awful periods of my life. It’s a debt I can probably never repay. Find them online at: https://wovenhandband.com/

The Handsome Family – Aside from being absurdly talented, Rennie and Brett Sparks are also incredibly nice people (Brett maybe not you so much, but definitely Rennie ^_^). Find them online at: http://www.handsomefamily.com/

Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers – One of my favorite bands to see live (JD Wilkes was probably considering obtaining a restraining order after the last show I attended…). Find them online at: http://www.legendaryshackshakers.com/

Palodine – I don’t even know how to properly describe them. They don’t fit neatly into any particular genre, but theirs is some of the most amazing music I’ve ever heard. Find them online at: https://palodine.bandcamp.com/

Holy Grove – Absurdly talented metal band with an incredible female vocalist. Unfortunately they only have two albums, but I’m hoping for at least a dozen more. Find them online at: https://holygrove.bandcamp.com/
