About the Author
PADDY ASHDOWN was the founding leader of the Liberal Democrats from 1988 until 1999. From 2002 to 2006 he served as the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina. His previous books include two volumes of The Ashdown Diaries, which covered his years as party leader, and Swords and Ploughshares: Building Peace in the 21st Century. He lives in the Somerset village of Norton-sub-Hamdon near Yeovil, the constituency he represented between 1983 and 2001, and currently sits in the House of Lords.
‘Ashdown’s was not a classic political life – soldier, spy, politician, Bosnian hero. The book offers a terrific guide to battlecraft, from how to deter jungle leeches to the importance of homebrew in wooing the Lib Dem activists’ Observer
