  About the Author

  ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I want to say thank you to my husband, Kenny, for all his patience and understanding. Without him I would not be grounded.

I want to thank my good friend and author Nicole Dunlap for her continuous support and tireless efforts in help guiding me in the right direction.

I want to thank author Janice Ross for her gift of verse and selfless ability to always be there when called upon.

  CHAPTER 1

My hands gripped the wheel tightly as I traveled slowly through the slippery, icy mountains of Colorado. It was around eight pm and not too many cars were out as I took my time with each climb and descent.

Most would not call what I passed a cliff drop-off but it’s as close to one I’d ever want to get to. Though I’m not afraid of heights and the rental’s tires had great traction, the heavy snowfall and the runaway truck ramps did nothing to ease my impending anxiety.

Once the twelve miles of dangerous curves ended and the mountain leveled out, I began weaving through the isolated roads like a pro. It reminded me of the drive my wife, Rachel, and I had taken when we'd rented a quaint little villa in Costa Rica. Back when we were happy. A time when her spirt was still free.

The whole flight there I wanted to rip off her turquoise halter dress; the only thing underneath was a thong – no bra. After a long day’s trip I could imagine tasting her salty - sweet mixture of heaven. With the Jeep cover down, her skin sparkled under the beaming sun as her hair flapped in the wind.

I drove top speed down the remote, winding road, needing to get to the villa quickly so I could screw her brains out but I’d rather pull over on the side of the road instead. She, on the other hand, had a better idea.

She reached under her dress, took two fingers and glided them inside her. I gunned the gas pedal even harder. “I’m going to crash if you keep that up.” I kept looking between her and the road. “You’re killing me, babe.” She enjoyed every minute of my agony.

As I reached over to feel how wet she was, she unzipped my pants and slid one hand through the opened slit. She knew exactly want I wanted when she met a stiff cock. She maneuvered me out of my jeans and without warning, sat her smooth thighs on top of me and slid me inside her hot moist walls. She caught me off guard, and I almost lost control of the car. My mind swirled as her pussy catered to my cock impeccably. Pampering it with the perfect massage.

Shamelessly she pulled her dress over her head, exposing her voluptuous breasts as they bounced to the rhythm of her gyration. She started kissing my neck then traveled to my ear, slipping her tongue in sensually, my weakness. My body shuddered to the rush of her wild performance.

I held onto her waist with one arm while trying to steer with the other, but it was cruel. When I couldn’t take it any longer I swerved over but she ordered, “Keep driving,” She smiled a most coy one, but at this very moment, she was not, as she seductively watched me while she moaned. I never knew pleasure could be so torturous.

My wife maneuvered perfectly on top of me like she’d done so many times before. At first slowly up and down, each time I wanted to succumb to her euphoric charm then rocking, hitting her spot. I waited until she orgasmed before I pulled over and as soon as she did I sped up into cover and gave her what she asked for.

In the seat I groped her ass vigorously pounding into her pussy while licking her hard pink nipples. If a car drove past we didn’t know of it, not that we cared. The one thing I loved about her was her sexual freedom.

I lifted her up and carried her a short distance and slammed her back against a nearby tree. I held onto her butt as her legs wrapped around me. My dick was still hard and I wanted more. This was not about love making or affection. This was pure carnal lust. We both were horny, hot and wanted it.

I lifted her off of me. “Grab a branch,” I warned her taking what I wanted from behind. I spread her legs wider and plunged deep inside her. She yelled out from the pleasure and pain, clawing the branch as I beat the kitty into orgasmic bliss. The sound of slapping skin during sex makes the act so much more pleasurable. I fucked her there on the side of the road because she knew how to bring the animal out in me. Something she used to do impeccably.

But that was our first year into the marriage. A time when Rachel and I were happy. That was only four years ago but it seemed so long ago. Like another lifetime.

I shook off the memory once I arrived at my destination- Vail. Driving through the city gave me the feel of a small town environment. One where everyone knew everybody by their first name, who their kids were and how many dogs they had. Don’t get me wrong it’s modern, stylish and very clean, just too friendly for me. Strangers waving to me from the street as I drove by was, to say the least, odd. I will give it its cleanliness, though. I noticed that about Colorado. Some say you can eat off the sidewalk it’s that spotless, but I think I’ll take their word on that subject matter.

I was immediately reminded again that I was no longer in D.C. when I stepped out of the rental and into the frigid air. Although there wasn’t the humidity to add to the chill, the cold mountain feel of Colorado was in a league of its own.

My breath froze instantly as warm air escaped my lips. My gloved fingers begged me to buy better insulated covers and my boots stuck to the hardened ice when I walked. The snowflakes that fell felt solid like they harbored ice chips instead of the fluffy flakes that I was used to. Note to self: buy new padded clothes while here.

This whole situation was unusual. Yes, flying first class might have been the norm for me, but where I come from fashionable clothing seemed more important than comfort or logic. In the mountains it has to be more about quality and preservation than anything else. My Calvin’s did nothing to preserve my body anywhere, not from head to toe. No matter how I felt, today was the beginning to a new chapter in my life. The last year had been, to put it mildly, rocky between my wife and I. This spur of the moment mini vacation was very much needed. I hope this time apart will only do us good. Absence is supposed to make the heart grow fonder. But in our case I wasn’t really sure.

Instead of me flying back home after a job interview, I’d decided to stay in Colorado and travel to a small ski resort to mull over my decision. The option to not go home was easily made after another cold reception over the phone with my indifferent wife. Her voice alone made the ice cozy and picturing her stony stare that could stop traffic help aid m
y choice.

After parking I headed for the heavy oak door to a resort, simply named ‘The Inn Keep’, and take in a deep breath of the heat, gladly escaping the coolness from the outside world.

It was just as I imagined a resort to look like. A fire crackled in the distance against the back wall with people huddled around its warmth drinking either cider, cocoa or coffee. They sat on glossed over wooden furniture with colorful cushions wearing sporty ski clothes. The place smelled of roasted nuts and the wood lined walls; while vaulted ceilings added to its appeal. The place was spacious and inviting.

“Welcome,” a pleasant looking woman said in a soft twang. The accent in Colorado was slight, but it reminded me of a southern dialect. She offered me an assortment of coffee, cocoa or cider in white mugs on a wooden tray

I accepted a mug filled with steaming cocoa and slightly bowed a thank you. I took a sip the richest tasting brew I’ve ever had. I thanked her again and she beamed watching my lips as I spoke.

My cheeks warmed. I politely excused myself and headed over to the desk under the hanging check in sign. I was again welcomed with a hearty grin accompanied by that same drawl. “Welcome I’m the Innkeeper, John Parsons, the owner, but you can call me John. How may I help you, sir?” He was a tall man about my height wearing lose denim, a plaid shirt and a puffy blue vest.

“Sterling Chandler, nice to meet you.” His handshake was professional and his grip was firm. Not at 6’ 3’ weighing two hundred and twenty my grip was any less, but a handshake can tell you a lot about a man. His told me he was straight forward and to the point. Not the kind to rumble with. “I’m checking in for a few days.”

“Have you been here before, sir? John asked while punching keys into a computer screen. “Plan on taking in a lot of skiing?”

“Honestly,” I chuckled picturing myself on the slopes. “I’ve never skied before. I’m looking forward to playing around on the bunny slope in between reading over work.”

It had been so long since I’d taken some time off. Guilt of allowing myself to ever be happy ate at me. This last year alone I worked more than I ever have. An estranged marriage seems to give you that incentive. Some days, she could hardly stand the sight of me. My wife, I miss her, but God only knows walking on eggshells for a year with no pardon gets to a man.

“Oh, garbage,” said John “Hanna!” He yelled robustly into the cherry wood hand carved door behind the desk. “My daughter is the best trainer, better than me or any of our other instructors.” He whispered the last part of the sentence as if not to offend anyone. The proud father bragged going back to the computer searching for the right buttons.

While John and I discussed small talk, I was taken aback when this tall splendor woman stepped out from behind the door. Lightning struck me in my chest and a hot sensation ran up my back so vigorously that I needed to catch my breath.

She was tall, maybe 5’7” or 8” wearing denim jeans and a cream sweater. Her hair hung long, well past her mid back. It was wild, lose and free. The Her hair’s dark mane complemented her flawless olive complexion and her eyes were a striking shade of green.

“Hanna, say hello to Mr. Chandler.” He gently but ever so forcibly edged her forward. “Why are you acting shy? You’re never shy? I’m sorry Mr. Chandler, I usually have to stop her, she’s always talking our guests to death. I guess at nineteen you never know what to expect, do you?”

“Hello, sir,” she spoke softly as if words were foreign to her. She focused only on my lips when she spoke while tenderly touching her full pink lips. Once she consumed all that she could of my mouth she then rolled her five karat emerald eyes over my body one inch at a time. Heat rose in me with such fierceness I had to force myself to regain my composure.

I blinked back my uncharacteristic reaction of loss of speech and found my way back to self-control. “Sterling, please call me Sterling.” I extended my hand to see if she would take it. At first she seemed as if to examine it then shook it with a shy half grin.

“Hanna, I was thinking that maybe you can show Mr… I mean, Sterling the slopes,” John said.

“Okay,” she said softly gazing deeply into my eyes as if to tell me something I refused to believe: inquisitiveness. As innocent as it was, curiosity still filled her disposition. She was but a child and I was a man of thirty.

“I don’t know, John.” I had to force myself to turn away from her. “I’m sure that there are far more people eager to learn and besides,” I looked at her and once again turned away from the growing fire in her impenetrable greens that where burning red. She now rested against the wall behind her father who could not see the innocently consuming expression on her face. “I have work to do.”

“You drove all this way you might as well try skiing. Anyway, it comes with the package you bought so no chickening out, Sterling.”

“I guess then I can’t say no, huh?” I swallowed hard watching the proud father, but I wanted to get out of this awkward situation. He was clueless to how seductively gorgeous his little girl was. I did not come here to start a whirlwind love affair with the Innkeeper’s daughter.

  ***

After stepping out of the steaming hot shower I felt like a new man. I already needed more towels. Places never had enough but supposedly I used more than normal. According to my wife I did. She always complained that I used too many even at home. I missed the sound of her voice even if it were a complaint. I would take anything from her right now.

At one time she and I were the best of friends and now we hardly speak. She’s beautiful, smart and witty. I missed the great times we had together. The walks in the park, getting caught in the rain, making love under the moonlight. It all seemed so very long ago.

I threw on dark denim jeans and a long sleeve white shirt to get ready for dinner. After I called housekeeping, I called Rachel to check on her. I promised not to call but I needed to.

I stared out the huge bay window peering over the snow covered mountains and took in the dark sky that was strategically placed with yellow dots as the phone rang on the other end. I needed to hear the voice of the one whom I’d hurt the most.

When she picked up I immediately spoke. “How’s it going, babe?” I asked hoping she was in a better mood than when I left, but from the tone she was still a bit annoyed.

“Hi, Sterling.” She was as cool as the snow covered peaks.

“How was your day today?” I decided to keep it simple and keep it to small talk. I needed to fix this. I wanted us to get back to what we had.

“Are we really doing this? Small talk? What’s next, the weather?”

“I’m just trying to avoid a fight. That’s all we seem to do or have done this past year, Rachel.” I tossed a pillow across the room and watched it bounced off the wall and land on the floor without a sound. “I’m trying.” I shut my eyes taking in a deep breath. “I’m doing this for us, babe. Getting this job so we can have a fresh start. How long are you going to punish me? I’m sorry.” I repeated the words I’ve said so many times before.

“I don’t know, Sterling. This time apart is supposed to be us trying to figure out if we want to continue this or not.”

  “I love you, Rachel”

“I believe that, Sterling but are you in love with me? See that’s the problem.”

  “Of course I am.”

“Sterling, stop. Don’t call me for the next five days. Just come home when you know for sure.” And just like that she hung up.

I sat there in the chair thinking of our old life and how I messed it up. I pictured her baby blues, wishing they looked at me the same way they used to. Every once in a while I would catch a sparkle in her eyes but that light would quickly fade like our marriage slowly was.

Of course, I’m in love with her, right? I married her. I thought of all the fighting, the arguing, getting kicked out then let back in, sleeping in separate rooms, the not talking for days, me busting my ass for over a year to make up for it, but could I ever?

  I
sat forward rubbing my forehead contemplating our life, wondering if we stood a chance, when there was a knock at the door.

“Come in,” I yelled from across the room.

In walked Hanna. “I have towels,” she said holding fresh new white ones with the resort’s emblem, ‘IK’ embroidered in green on them. She didn’t take them to the bathroom or place them down. She expected me to come get them.

I got up and took them from her as her green orbs stayed engrossed in me. “Doesn’t housekeeping normally do this? I didn’t’ expect you to come,” I said as my hands accidently brushed against hers. My stomach flipped, fighting the urge to face her when we touched. An electric surge shot to my groin as if her hand pressed up against me there when we touched. Her candid stare stirred something within to me that should never be. Desire. It was unsettling.

I quickly walked away. I didn’t mean to make contact with her skin, but with the way she held them so close to her chest I had no choice. She just stood there offering expecting me to take.

“How soon can you be ready in the morning?” she asked ignoring my question.

Remembering her father was adamant about me taking ski lessons from her, I went along with it for now. Maybe I would do just one or two lessons then call it quits. She was a bit too inquisitive for me and that spelled danger.

“We can start as early as nine.” I really didn’t know what time was good for skiing.

“Seven-thirty would be better,” She advised walking over to my dresser and planting her bottom firmly against it, her eyes still trying to read me as if I were a map to a hidden treasure, as her finger looped through her coils inspecting me like she had no clue as to what I was. “That way not too many people will be out when we begin.”

I noticed she had less of an accent than the others. “Sure whatever you think is best,” I said keeping a safe distance. I remembered something my mother always said ‘Curiosity killed the cat’ but in my sick mind I always joked ‘Satisfaction brought him back’. That satisfaction is what got me into trouble.
