“Fuuuuck,” he muttered harshly, unbuckling his belt, unzipping quickly and shoving his pants and boxers down his muscular thighs.
“You want me?” He asked, his voice deeper, his dark, commanding mood coming forward his hand around the base of his cock and started moving.
“Yes, in my mouth,” she whispered licking her lips, her hands gripping his muscular thighs, her fingertips leaving half moons where they dug in.
“Then open your pretty mouth for me,” he ordered, letting the heavy weight of his cock rest on her wet lips.
Obeying, she sucked him in, just the head, her tongue surrounding and skimming repeatedly over the broad edge of him.
“Hippie Girl,” he hissed out, his fingers wrapping so tightly on the edge of the desk, his knuckles turned white with the effort.
Sliding him from her mouth, she wrapped her fingers over the base of him, focusing then on just the tip of him again and again, moving and swirling her tongue slowly back and forth. Walker watched, his breathing heavy, his eyes cataloging her every move, as she sucked him deeper into her warm mouth.
Walker grunted his approval, one callused finger shifting from the side of her face to the corner of her mouth.
“Deeper baby, let me go deeper,” he urged, reaching up to slip the elastic from her hair, the heavy weight of it tumbling down, wavy strands surrounding her face.
Waverly sucked him deeper, he filled her mouth completely, thrusting deeper, finally withdrawing to move the tip over her parted lips.
“My beautiful, Wave,” he murmured, watching reverently when she hummed her appreciation. His eyes lifted from her lips raising to meet her eyes, wicked and vulnerable at the same time. Overcome with the intimacy, their lust for each other and the unspoken words of emotion between them, her eyes drifted shut.
Walker caught up in the heat of her mouth, stroked himself while she working for his release, finally with a coarse groan, his entire body tensed, he flooded her mouth.
Barely able to remain standing, his chest heaving from the intensity of his orgasm, he watched as she licked her lips after swallowing every drop of him.
“Walker,” she sighed softly, her head falling forward to rest on his thighs, her golden hair spilling over him. Walker leaned forward and gathered her hair in both of his hands pulling it gently so her face lifted her up to meet his gaze
He smiled at her then, a rare, full smile, not smug or arrogant but heartfelt and gentle. Her heart melted.
CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE
Waverly admired her manicure while her feet soaked in the pedicure bowl, Kate seated next to her was doing the same, while recounting the disastrous four-course dinner she had attempted to make for Benn. Unfortunately, Kate confessed, the only edible thing that made it to the table was her. As happy as she was for Kate and Benn, Waverly still found it ‘ew’ to hear about. Their transition from friends to couple was relatively smooth and even at work, they were a happy couple. She wondered if people would consider she and Walker a successful couple, their coupling certainly was successful she thought, chuckling to herself.
His morning disappearance was still a mystery, first, he had distracted her with sex, and then in his office, well she wasn’t trying to distract him, she just couldn’t help herself. Whatever problems they had, sex between them was...she couldn’t find words strong enough to describe it. Walker was everything she had ever wanted in a man physically, mentally and emotionally. Until the suspicious phone call, he had been more lighthearted than she had ever seen him and even happier with the state of things between the two of them. He was more relaxed around other people and his workers than she’d ever seen him, less distant and aloof.
Kate walked back from choosing her polish color and plopped back in the Pedi bowl as Waverly’s phone chirped.
“Better get that Way. If it’s Lover Boy and you don’t answer you might get spanked tonight,” Kate teased waggling her freshly plucked eyebrows.
Waverly grabbed her phone finding a text from Walker, no words just a volcano emoji followed by a smiley face. Watching Waverly smile, Kate grabbed the phone from her, then chuckled.
“What? Is there no blow job emoji?”
“Sheesh, you guys are doing it like three times a day? You make me feel like Benn and I are an old married couple, only having sex once a day,” Kate pouted, “I’m going to tell Benn that he’s going to have to up his game. Get it? ‘up’ his game.”
Laughing they clinked their plastic cups of Pinot together, while the nail techs rolled their eyes.
“So the sex is obviously great but do you trust him again?”
“I’m getting there, except for whatever that phone call was about this morning, I’m trying to be patient and trust him to tell me about it when he’s ready.”
“Well the guy’s crazy about you and the way he handled the whole ‘are you knocked up’ issue proves what a stand-up guy he is, right? Damn, you two would make some beautiful babies.”
“Kate, you’re so Team Walker that I’m feeling a little abandoned.”
“Well let’s stop by your place on the way home and you lend me those Jimmy Choos, then I’ll be Team Waverly forever,” Kate joked.
Another plastic cup of Pinot later they were sitting in Waverly’s apartment sipping their coffee drinks, admiring their pedicures and chatting. Waverly was lecturing Kate on the benefits of Yogalates when Walker strolled in. After a quick hello to Kate, he moved directly to Waverly, bending down with a hushed, “Hey, Baby” he delivered three soft kisses. Kate leaning around him to be seen, waved, mouthing ‘Baby?’ then sighed dramatically.
“So you two behaved? No need for the bail money I took out, huh?”
He teased, sitting down next to Kate and placing his phone and wallet down on the coffee table.
“Asshole,” Kate responded smiling,“Keep it handy Mr. Rike, you never know what we’ll do next time.”
“Too True. Benn good?” Walker asked Kate, slipping an arm around Waverly.
“Benn is good,” she replied with an evil smile, “Not so good that I visited him at his office and gave him a...”
“Kate!” Waverly shrieked, her face flushing pink with embarrassment.
Walker chuckled, his eyes crinkling up at the corners, he winked at Kate.
“Actually Waverly was the one who was good, and good doesn’t even describe how her...”
“Walker,” Waverly shrieked, swinging at him with a sofa pillow, which he expertly ducked.
“On that note, I’m going to grab a shower, I’ll leave you to your coffee, and intelligent discussion of shoes.”
Leaning down he kissed Waverly once more as he sauntered out of the room.
“Lucky Bitch,” Kate said with a dreamy smile.
“Yep,” Waverly replied smiling into her coffee drink as she finished it off.
“I need a water, want one?”
She heard Walker head into her office, which he sometimes did when he had work to do and needed quiet, he had learned to work through the anxiety her piling and stacking system caused him. Oblivious to her return, Kate sat totally engrossed in her phone, nudging her shoulder with the water bottle.
“Text from Benn?”
Eyes wide and face white as a sheet, Kate looked up.
“Oh my God, Way, I’m so sorry,” she whispered, looking down at the phone again and then back up at her.
“Kate, what happened? Is it Benn? You’re scaring me,” she asked sliding over on the sofa next to Kate.
“I’m so sorry I shouldn’t have snooped, but it was just sitting there. I didn’t think...”
Waverly grabbed the phone - it was Walker’s.
It was a text, to Walker from CeCe VanderCrest, ‘I’m keeping the baby. Don’t try to talk me out of it.’
Cece was pregnant. With Walker’s baby.
CHAPTER TWENTY SIX
Waverly was curled up in Benn’s guest room, with Benn’s arms around her, Kate was asleep in Benn’s bed. Kate had done the best that she cou
ld trying to console her not sure if she should feel guilty or glad that she had snooped through Walker’s phone.
After she had cried herself to exhaustion Benn had come in banishing Kate to his bedroom then crawling in beside her and holding her until she finally fell asleep. It felt nice to have Benn all to herself again, then immediately felt guilty for the thought.
Benn vehemently insisted that Walker had not cheated on her, but on the slim chance that it was true, he promised to “kill the son of a bitch” himself or hire someone to do it. At some point, Walker had realized that something was very wrong, that Waverly was gone, not-coming-back gone and her phone had started blowing up with texts from him.
Kate had insisted that Benn let him know that Waverly was safe, and staying with them until he was completely cleared out of her place. It had also been made clear that Benn would have him thrown out of the building if he tried to come and see her while she stayed with them.
None of it made sense to Waverly. Why had he even bothered to text, the cat was out of the bag, the jig was up, the beans were spilled. How could he possibly believe that she would ever be okay with him knocking up Cece? Hearing a phone buzz on the nightstand she realized Kate must have brought it back in after she had fallen asleep. The text read, ‘Whatever you think you know, you’re wrong. Let me explain.’ She sighed, what was there to explain, why did he care? His plan must have been to marry TwinSet Cece and then fuck her on the side? She wasn’t good enough for him to marry but good enough to fuck, good to know. Dumbfuck Asshole. Twin set Cece must be over the moon. Hitting the Internet on her phone she searched Walker Rike. How humiliating, it was all over the local news already. Heiress Cece VanderCrest, pregnant with Prominent Heir/Business Man Playboy, Walker Rike’s love Child, Is The Wedding Back On? and, Prominent Chicago Blue Bloods Pregnant With Heir To Dynasty.
He was having a baby, her lip trembled as she thought what a good father Walker would be, she knew he would disagree with her but he really would.
Benn rustled around behind her and his arm squeezed her waist her tightly.
“It can’t be true Way,” he whispered with conviction, “I’ve seen the way the guy looks at you, I know how he talks about you, he’s crazy about you. Give yourself some time and then talk to him.”
Why couldn’t she have fallen in love with Benn years ago? He was such a great guy and he would never have cheated on her. But Benn was Benn and Walker was...everything she had ever wanted in a man.
CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN
Walker hadn’t talked to, or laid eyes on Waverly for one entire fucking week, seven days since she had run from him - again. Strangely, the only thing keeping him sane was staying busy trying to eliminate the shit storm of fictional press that Cece had started. It wasn’t his baby, he knew and she knew it, but she certainly had no problem letting the entire world think it was his, especially Waverly. It was one thing to be just another knocked up socialite, sadly, it was perfectly acceptable in their world for her to be having his baby, especially when everyone assumed that he, of course, would do the right thing and marry her.
At his request, his company lawyers were filing injunctions, lawsuits and even bribery if it worked. Anything, if it would put a stop to more publicity, it was a losing battle, though, Cece and her family were doing everything they could to encourage and publicize it further. His life, Waverly and even the truth were merely collateral damage to them. Walker had briefly wondered who the father actually was but his real concern was Waverly.
All of his texts and phone calls had gone unanswered, even Benn who he had figured out long ago was a romantic at heart, wouldn’t give him any information. Honoring Benn’s request he had cleared out of Waverly’s place, they had been going back and forth between places so adjusting to staying at his place again was doable. Adjusting to being at his place without her with there too was an altogether different story. Everywhere he looked there were pieces of her, partly because she was a bit of an unorganized slob, and partly because she had become such a huge part of his life. And, now he couldn’t picture his life without her.
Given his past fuck ups with her and her lack of trust in him, it wasn’t surprising that Waverly had jumped to a somewhat logical conclusion about Cece. Waverly was an emotions first kind of woman and it was an intrinsic part of her that he loved and also admired. When they first began spending time together, he had quickly realized that he needed to load his pockets with cash. She would unfailingly give every bit of money she carried to each down on their luck, homeless or needy person in their path. Being a business owner she did do quite well financially, but given his company and the family money in his possession he was substantially more well off than her, given that, he took over all of the financial handouts. It made him feel like a better man – she made him feel like a better man.
He had admitted to himself a while ago that he might be in love with Waverly, ironically it was when he had thought she might be pregnant with his child that he knew it was a fact. After questioning her about the pregnancy he came to realize that he absolutely did want to have children...with her. Fuck, if she wanted seven children that was fine with him. Whatever she wanted, he wanted her to have and he wanted to be the man that gave it to her.
At some point she would find out the truth, he just worried that it would be too late, that this was the straw, that it would irreparably break them. The last time he had walked away - and intentionally hurt her – badly, by becoming engaged to Cece. This time he wasn’t going to walk away and he wasn’t going to hurt her.
CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT
Anne had stormed in throwing a handful of the local papers at him, not even pretending that she was trying for the desk, actually hitting him in the head with one of them. All of the local press would make things even more difficult with Waverly, but short of buying every single paper in the city, there was little that he could do. On top of that, his hands were tied when it came to stopping anything on the Internet, there were just too many blogs, vlogs and gossip sites saying whatever they wanted to, true or false.
Walker sighed, fuck, it was only ten in the morning and he already had a bourbon in his hand. After trying to drown his sorrow with the better part of a bottle last night, it wasn’t just his breakfast, but also, a much-needed hangover cure. Swirling the liquid around in the glass, the amber colors reminded him of Waverly’s beautiful hair. He loved her hair, so wild and sexy, would he ever get the chance to run his hands through it again. He ran a fucking multi-million dollar business, lesser men feared walking into meetings and going toe to toe with him, he could run a mile in under seven minutes, he could speak and read Latin. But he couldn’t keep this one woman from running. He ran his hand over his face, what a shitty day, he hadn’t even bothered to shave this morning.
Ignoring the raised voices outside of his door, he took another drink and checked his cell phone, he hoped Anne was giving someone besides him hell this morning. His office door flew open, banging so hard against the wall that the hanging artwork rattled. Waverly and Anne practically fell into his office, the two women wrestling over control of the doorknob, if he wasn’t so shocked it would have been funny. Anne was almost shouting at Waverly.
“Walker is a man of honor, and he cares for you, there is no way he would ever be with that...that...”
Well, at least one person had his back he thought wryly.
“Anne,” he snapped, trying to get her attention.
“Walker, I tried to stop her,” she informed him, giving Waverly a withering look.
“Thank you, Anne, but Waverly will alway be free to come into my office unannounced,” he informed Anne gently.
Anne left slamming the door behind her, but not without a smirk from Waverly. Good God, he thought, when the time comes he prayed he would only have sons.
Waverly looked pale, on edge and tired, but stunning, he was just so fucking relieved to see her again, be in the same room with her again. His eyes consumed head to toe, the thought occurred to
him that she could easily have been a model.
“Walker?”
This time he was the one who had wandered off into his own head.
“Yes, sorry. Are you okay?”
He started to make his way over to her but knew he should tread cautiously, she was apprehensive and he shouldn’t approach her too quickly.
“Could we talk for a minute, please” she addressed him with extreme politeness as if they were strangers who just met.
Fuck, he thought, she was like ice, with an impenetrable suit of emotional armor over the ice, this would be more difficult than he imagined. The important thing was to maintain his legendary calm, then they could talk things through, he could explain, make her understand. Slowly coming out from around his desk he gestured for her to take a seat.
Avoiding eye contact with him, he wanted to shake her, then pull her into his arms, whisper the words he should have said months ago and run his hands over her until she remembered. Remembered the way they were together without all of this bullshit between them.
“That’s not necessary, this won’t take long.” He watched her pull in a deep breath.
“We, or whatever it was between us, is over. For good,” she stated flatly, emotionlessly, finally meeting his eyes.
There were dark circles under them, they were red-rimmed from crying he could tell, but they were resolute...and angry.
Turning, trying to make a quick escape, she was almost to his office door before he caught up with her. He desperately wanted to put his hand over her mouth, pick her up and sit her ass down, force her to listen to him until he was finished, and she believed him. But he didn’t. Moving in front of her he shut his office door, halting her escape.
“Don’t Walker. Just let me go,” she insisted, taking a step back from him.
Grabbing her, he pulled her a step closer to him, holding onto her arms.
