“You will watch your tongue in speaking of my granddaughter,” Eleanor snapped. “You and your father have done enough to her and my son to last them a lifetime, and unless you want to be cut off you’d better mind your mouth. If you have nothing nice to say about her I suggest you say nothing at all.”

Chester’s eyes widened at his mother’s outburst and the dressing down she’d given his father. Eleanor leaned up and kissed her son on the cheek before turning and exiting the room.

“She thinks that because I’m having to rely on her money now she can talk to me any kind of way,” he muttered.

“I take it all of the investments you and the old man had a hand in took a hit,” Chester stated, taken by surprise.

“I had no idea what the old man had invested in until it was too late, and now I have to go to your mother before I spend one red cent.”

“Well, to answer your question, my daughter has made her own money and to date is worth three times the money your father had set aside for his blood heirs, so she has no use for any money from him. Knowing what he did to her mother and I, I’m sure she wouldn’t accept it. I’ll have the attorney give the money over to you and mother.” He caught the smile on his father’s face, but his next words wiped that smile away. “Mother will be in charge of the money, so you’ll still have to rely on her.”

Chester laughed at the slew of curses his father spewed as he left again, marveling at the hand of fate.

  Epilogue

She stood with her father behind the doors waiting for the wedding march to begin. The two weeks had gone by in a blur with all the preparations for the wedding and making sure everyone understood their place. Andréa remembered the way her father had cried in the restaurant where they’d shared lunch and she’d asked him if he’d give her away. They’d laughed at his comment that he’d just found her and didn’t want to give her away. She’d cried right along with him, and he’d assured her that he’d be honored to walk her down the aisle.

“I want to thank you for allowing your grandmother to be a part of the planning of the wedding,” her father whispered.

“You don’t have to thank me, Daddy, I didn’t just want her to be relegated to a part of my life—I want both of you to be an active part, and that’s why I asked her to help. One day your father will come around, and he can be a part of my life also.”

“I wouldn’t hold your breath, baby. He’s stubborn and set in his ways, but if anyone can bring him around I know it will be you.” He gave her a quick kiss just before the wedding march started and the double doors opened.

Sebastian’s breath lodged in his throat at the sight of Andréa coming down the aisle towards him. The dress she’d picked out could be described as exquisite, made of white pearls and lace. The strapless robe hugged her full breasts.

“Breathe, bro,” Basil whispered in his ear.

As they repeated their vows, Andréa reached up and wiped away the tear that rolled down Sebastian’s face. The preacher pronounced them man and wife, and the kiss Sebastian bestowed upon her had everyone shouting their joy.

“I love you, Mrs. York,” he declared.

“I love you also, Mr. York,” Andréa responded, giving him another soul-stirring kiss.
