Finally he spread her legs wide. “Open your eyes, I want you to see who is making you come.” His eyes were nearly black with passion. Too overcome to speak, she nodded once. Before she could nod again, he thrust into her with one hard surge. It was her undoing. Her world burst into a million particles, her vision blinded by the fireworks going off. Once twice, three times her world shattered, only to pull together and shatter again.

“That was… remarkable.” RayeAnn sighed as she lightly caressed his chest. “I’ve never been so completely satisfied in my life.”

“Yeah, I know what you mean. Sex with you is so much better than ever before. Why do you think that is?” Ryker ran his hands gently through her hair as he spoke.

“I have no idea. I’m just thankful and hungry.” She bolted out of the bed and ran down the steps. Ryker’s hot breath heated her naked back as he followed her to the kitchen. After downing a few cookies and grabbing some water bottles they made their way back up the steps. Together they got under the covers and snuggled.

A slamming door woke RayeAnn from a doze. The loud gasp made her turn over and kiss Ryker.

  “We have company,” Ryker muttered.

RayeAnn groaned. “Time to get back to reality.”

RayeAnn heard a door slam, followed by Tim’s expletive. “Holy shit!”

It reminded her that she still had a full day of work ahead of her.

“RayeAnn! Where are you?” RayeAnn grabbed Ryker’s hand and dragged him out of her bedroom door.

Bryn grimaced. “Oh, hey, ummm, sorry?”

“No problem. Actually, you’re just the person I wanted to see, Bryn. Come talk to me while I get a quick shower and get dressed.”

“No way. I know that tone in your voice…you want something and I have a pretty good guess what it is.” She waved her arm over the mess all around her.

“But you know that’s not why you’re my friend, right? I’ll give you a day at a spa as an added incentive.”

“Which spa?” Bryn was playing hardball, RayeAnn realized.

“Your choice. Of course I’ll have to come along just to make sure everything’s to your satisfaction.”

“Of course…deal. Where do you want me to start?”

“Kitchen first. You might need Tim to help get the knives out of the floor, they’re lodged in there pretty tight.”

“All right, I’m not going one step further until you tell me how they got there. Why does it smell so good in here? You’d think with this kind of mess it would stink to high heaven.”

“It’s all part of the story. Let me grab a quick shower while you make the coffee.” She turned back into her room before Bryn could object, laughing to herself on the way to the shower.

Four hours later, with the help of Tim and Ryker, they had the house almost completely back to normal, leaving the basement and attic for another time. At least it was livable again. To her surprise, very little had been broken, they mostly just put things to rights and mopped and vacuumed.

In celebration of their major accomplishments, Ryker ordered in Chinese food. It was fun to just sit around and spend time together, just the four of them, almost as if it were an everyday occurrence to clean up after a major spirit had ripped the hell out of her house.

“So, Bryn, now that everything’s back to normal, when are you moving back in?”

The look of guilt between Bryn and Tim told RayeAnn all she needed to know. With a heavy heart she didn’t wait for her answer. “You’re not coming back, are you?”

“Oh Raye, it’s not that I don’t love you. It’s just that Tim and I want to see how things go for us…together.”

“You mean as a couple? From what I’ve seen here today, this could be the real deal for both of you. I understand, but that doesn’t mean I won’t miss you. We’ve lived together since college and been friends since middle school. I’m not sure I’m ready to give that up, but I guess I have no choice.” Ryker put his arm around her shoulder, giving her a little squeeze.

“Don’t worry, RAT, you still have me.” He fluttered his eyelashes at her, making her burst into laughter.

“Yeah, right up until we reunite Charity and Nathaniel, then you’ll be moving on to the next case somewhere in Timbuktu.” The thought suddenly terrified her. Until now she hadn’t let herself think about the future of their relationship. Now that she not only thought about it but said the words out loud, it was more horrifying than living with a violent ghost. She could already feel the loneliness creeping under her skin, causing a little spasm of her heart as it settled there. She desperately blinked back the tears that tried to fight their way out of her eyes. Now was not the time to lose it. Anxious to change the subject, she blurted out the first question that came to her mind.

“You will come for the séance though, right? Everett said the more people here the better the chances of success.”

“I wouldn’t miss it for the world. I love a happy, sappy ending.” Bryn hugged RayeAnn, then she pulled away, grinning.

“Count me in, too.” Tim grabbed Bryn’s hand and held it.

“Then it’s a date. I wonder, what do you serve people at a séance?”

“What else, Bloody Mary’s, Zombies, Banana Banshee, Ecto Plasm.” Bryn held up her fingers as she began to count the number of items on her list.

“Spoken like a true barmaid. Maybe I’ll make some cookies in the shape of body parts?”

“Umm, all right. I was thinking more along the lines of cheese balls and crackers, but if that’s what you want, it’s your house.”

“You’re such a traditionalist,” RayeAnn complained.

“And on that note I think it’s time for us to take off. I just realized it’s after midnight already. Ready to go, Tim?”

“After you, my dear. We’ll see you both tomorrow night for the séance. If you need anything, you know how to contact us.”

“Right. Thanks for all the help today.” RayeAnn stood at the door and watched until their car turned out of her driveway. She was going to miss seeing Bryn every day.

After RayeAnn and Ryker had brought all the dirty dishes back into the kitchen, she started to load them into the dishwasher. She was way too rattled to go to sleep. The thought of both Bryn and Ryker deserting her kept her on the verge of tears. Her heart started to pound violently in her chest when she felt his arms circle her waist. His lips nuzzled the back of her neck, kissing her gently before his hands began to roam over her body. He pressed his erection against her back while his hands worked their magic on her body, exciting her through her own despair.

“I’m not planning on going anywhere after the séance, you know. We haven’t really talked about…us. I want to stay, if you’ll still have me after the séance. I really care about you, RAT. More than I’ve cared for anyone…ever. Hell, I guess I’m trying to say that I’ve sort of fallen in love with you.”

Tears that she had fought for so long refused to hide any longer, streaming down her face with relief. She turned slowly toward him. Not bothering to hide her tears, she looked him straight in the eyes. “Oh God help me, I love you, too.”

Moving even closer to her, he let his forehead touch hers before giving her a long, lingering kiss. She melted into a puddle of molten heat, slowly wrapping her legs around his waist while her arms circled his neck, taking in his delicious taste and smell. Totally submerged in him, she didn’t even realize he had started to move toward the living room until he laid her gently on the couch.

Slowly he unbuttoned her blouse, pulling it apart to look at the skimpy scraps of lace that encased her breasts. As she unhooked the clasp in the center to free her breasts, her nipples hardened for him. The need coursed through her like fast moving rapids. She clasped her breasts in her hands, offering them to him, inviting him to feast on them as she began to squirm with excitement. Like a flash he was naked and on his knees, suckling the hard pebbles while his hand crept to her core with taunting little circles.

  Thinking it was impossi
ble to feel any more excited than she was at that moment, she changed her mind the second he found her sensitive nub and began to taunt and tease it until she begged for release.

The smile he wore was absolutely evil as he continued to tease her body.

When she seized his erection tightly, he gasped. His hand moved faster. His panting in her ear matched her own. Her loud moan when he finally thrust into her propelled her into a fast, primal rhythm making her come. His climax followed her own, making hers last even longer. He showered her face with kisses, making her feel the love he had for her pour out of his body to be absorbed into her very pores. Her heart swelled with love for him, settling her nerves and quelling her fears of abandonment. He was hers, heart and soul, just as she was his. Now she could fully comprehend the feelings that Charity and Nathaniel had for each other. All consuming love. A love that completed both of them, knowing that without each other they were nothing alone. It was wonderful but frightening.

  CHAPTER 13

Ryker lay there, not wanting to pull his cock from her body, though he was spent. He needed the connection to her both physically and emotionally. She was his everything, his whole world. She was the sun, and he was a revolving planet being magnetically pulled to her, regardless of his will. When the hell had all this happened? She had the power to hurt him and it scared him, until her hot tongue began to work his nipple and her hands caressed and cupped his behind, he felt himself growing hard as steel, and he forgot his fears. He began to thrust his hips, loving the feel of her. Cradling his cock tightly, she milked him dry with her climax.

How could a woman this sexy be so smart, too? He respected her intelligence almost as much as he respected her body, worshiping every inch inside and out. Her bravery last night during the house cleansing had been impressive, more than some of the ‘professionals’ he had worked with in the past. She really knows how to roll with the punches, even when they come from an evil entity.

He turned and looked at her, watching her slow, even breathing while she slept. Her occasional snort while she slept only endeared her more to him. Lying next to her like this was his favorite time with her, getting his fill of her luscious body without feeling self-conscious. She was his complete opposite, but somehow it worked for him.

In his business a person didn’t tend to accept what he saw as real. Since some people got their jollies out of trying to fool the team with juvenile pranks and amateur special effects. Poor idiots didn’t have anything better to do with their time than waste his with their stupidity. Didn’t they understand that a person’s energy had to go somewhere when he or she died? Someday he would love to invite these jerks to a house cleansing like he had been through last night. They’d shit their pants before they got through the first room, and they wouldn’t be laughing, either.

The soft moan that came from RayeAnn snapped his attention back to what he was doing, causing his cock to jerk violently awake, wanting her all over again as he plucked and tweaked her hard nipple. What the hell was he going to do about her, she had him trapped and it scared the stuff out of him. When she grasped his hard erection in her hand, massaging him as she moaned sensuously, he lost all train of thought. Now his body took over as her legs spread wide, inviting him in without any sign of hesitation. He was lost in her, drowning and not caring. He moved into her body slowly, savoring every sensation. Once again his fear slipped away.

After spending the better part of the day in bed, both of them were now bustling around the kitchen to get ready for the séance.

“Are you nervous about the séance tonight?” He had noticed she was a little more clumsy than usual tonight.

“Yes and no. Does that clear it up for you?” She laughed.

“Clear as mud. Tell me what you’re thinking.”

“Well, I’m glad we were able to get rid of Gideon, but I have a lot of anxiety about our ability to reunite Charity and Nathaniel. I haven’t dreamt of her much, just little snippets of her calling out for Nathaniel, and I don’t know what that means. Is it a good sign or bad? I really want this to succeed for them, they deserve some happiness after all this time apart. She’s a part of me now, but how will I feel when she’s gone? Will I miss her or be happy?” She shrugged a sexy shoulder while she sliced the cheese to go with the crackers Ryker was spreading out on a serving tray.

“Do you feel like Nathaniel is part of you?”

“Yeah, I do, but I’m not sure I like the feeling. It’s sort of like being violated, in a way. I like being in control, hell, I insist on it, but he’s taken over. That’s scary on so many different levels.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.” She patted his cheek gently with her palm.

“I bet you will, but who’ll protect you?”

“Me. Look at these muscles, I can beat the shit out of Nathaniel with one arm tied behind my back.” She flexed her arm, trying to look fierce, and failed miserably. Her skinny arm barely showing a bump, even when she tried, causing him to burst out laughing and snorting until his sides hurt.

“Hey, I’m tougher than you think there, buddy. Don’t underestimate me.”

“Never.” He kissed her on the top of her head, sensing her agitation, just as Bryn and Tim came walking hand in hand into the kitchen.

“Hey, if it isn’t the gruesome twosome. Are you excited about tonight?”

“I am, but Bryn is a little nervous about it.” Tim answered for both of them, although she didn’t make any attempt to correct his statement.

“Everett won’t let anything bad happen to any of us. He’s got a lot of courage and knowledge. I have confidence in him. You should have seen him during the cleansing. He barely batted an eyelash at everything and just kept on doing what he had to do. He was steady as a rock.” She slid the now finished tray of snacks toward Bryn and Tim in invitation, knowing when Bryn was agitated she calmed herself with food.

Once everyone had arrived and been introduced, they all settled in at the dining room table, talking easily as if this were a simple social engagement. Jarred and his wife, Lola, had come to help. When everyone began to run out of small talk, Ryker took the opportunity to get the séance started.

“Are we all ready to get started?” He rubbed his hands together, anxious to get this over. He was on edge. Surely this will settle any doubts, so RayeAnn and I can know our feelings for each other are real.

“Sure. If everyone would please sit down we’ll get going. Let me explain how this works. We’ll all join hands to connect our energy. Then I’ll start with a brief prayer before connecting with my spirit guide. My guide will give me instruction about how we need to channel the energy and guide us through the whole thing. I seldom remember much if the spirit enters my body, so if my voice changes or I don’t use my normal speech patterns you need to still do as instructed. The prayers I say in the beginning are for everyone’s protection, so you don’t need to worry that anything bad will happen to anyone.” Everett made eye contact with each person at the table before continuing. “Any questions?” He waited, watching everyone nod.

“All right. Here we go. Don’t let go of each other, no matter what.”

He bent his head, closing his eyes as the prayer tumbled out of his mouth, not just words but with real emotion. Everyone bent their heads as if in prayer themselves…maybe they were praying too.

RayeAnn sat next to Ryker, holding onto his hand tightly when the first chill skittered down her spine. Startled, she jerked her head up, looking around the room to see if everybody else felt the change in temperature. Her breath came out in a fine mist, lingering in the air. Since no one else seemed to be aware of what was happening to her, she bent her head again while the cold invaded her body. Shivering, she clinched her jaws tightly together to keep them from chattering before everything went black for her.

When she heard her name being called repeatedly, urgently, she moaned quietly. Nausea rolled around her stomach, trying to claw its way out of her body while she swallowed hard, forcing it ba
ck down. Dizziness made her feel as if she were falling. She slapped her hands down to steady herself. Her eyes were so heavy she couldn’t muster the strength to open them, as if something lay across them. Someone was stroking her forehead, and the physical contact relieved her. She brought her hand up to her face. Feeling the damp rag over her eyes she slid it off, amazed to find herself lying down the center of the dining room table like a centerpiece. Fear throbbed throughout her body when she realized she had no idea how she had gotten there. Ryker stood over her, a look of concern had his eyebrows bunched and his mouth was in a hard, straight line.

“What happened?” She squeaked out, her throat sore.

Everett elbowed Ryker out of the way, taking over the situation.

“Tell me the last thing you remember.”

“Umm, I was cold, freezing. I could see my breath. I was shivering. Did everyone else feel it too?”

“No, just you, although Ryker had his own drama going on at the same time yours was happening.”

  “Are you all right, Ryker?”

“Fine, really. Mine wasn’t anywhere near as dramatic as yours. At least I never left my seat, anyway.”

  “Tell me everything.”

“Charity took over your body. One minute you were sitting there holding my hand and the next you were floating out of your chair and this weird mist surrounded you. You hovered near the ceiling for a while, calling for Nathaniel in someone else’s voice.”

“Come on, quit joking around and tell me what happened.”

“He’s telling you the truth.” Everett confirmed while all the people in the room nodded in agreement.

  “Okayyyy. Then what?”

“That’s when my body started to get cold just like you described, but I felt this rush of…energy, I guess, on my chest. Then just as quickly as it came it left, leaving a mist hovering outside my body. I can’t describe it any better than that. When my mist came out, your mist left your body, too. Both mists merged, still holding your body up by the ceiling, then gently put you down onto the table.”
