“Aye?”
“Oh, aye.”
Declan lifted his head to gaze down upon her. “So, you would have let me claim you.” It wasn’t a question in his mind.
“I think the laird was trying to claim me.”
“All of me wanted you then and now, wife.” Declan knew his voice carried his unyielding belief.
Emma blew out her breath in a huff. “If it makes you happy, yes, I would have let you claim me.”
“Aye?”
“Yes, I was so lost in you that I would have stayed.” Emma chuckled. “And you can stop looking so pleased with yourself at any time.”
“I am pleased that you would have been mine by your will. Such means all to me.” Declan doubted that will and whiskey went together, but he had wondered.
“So now what?” Emma asked, as she wiggled her hips beneath him.
Pretending to ponder, Declan made her wait. “I can only assume that my love and devotion must be proved to you.”
Emma pulled his shirt over his head, and he marveled at the feel of her hands running over his shoulders. “How exactly do you plan on proving that to me?” she said.
Resting on an elbow, his free hand pulled at the laces of her bodice. “As I always do, with love and exceptionally great meaning. You are my world. Once again, such obligations may last long into the night.”
Both of their heads turned in unison as Robert made a soft cry. Declan exhaled slowly as no other sound came from the cradle. “Mayhap I should make that I will love you with exceptionally great meaning before our son awakens.”
Emma laughed softly as she pushed him away, and in seconds, their garments landed on the floor. “Did I tell you how much I missed you?” Her question came as his body settled against hers.
“Aye, and I missed you.” Declan kissed her and knew that his world was complete. He had a wife who loved all of him, two cherished children, and a clan that prospered. I have more than I ever dreamed possible.
Declan broke the kiss and stared down at the woman who made his life so wonderful. “Do you ken I mean it when I say we are one? That together is the only place I wish to be?” He needed her to understand the depths of his love. His days away had only served to remind how he longed to be home.
“Yes, Declan. I love you so much.” She blinked away the emotion welling and glanced quickly at the cradle. “Now, hurry up and make us one before the baby wakes up.” Emma winked at him and then pulled him down to meet her lips.
“Aye, wife.” Declan gave her a soft brush against her lips and then lost all thought as he and Emma touched, tasted and explored the other. Finally becoming one creature made from love.
