The Seekers: The Children of Darkness (Dystopian Sci-Fi - Book 1) Page 30

by David Litwack

Desperate to keep their movement alive, Orah and Nathaniel cross the ocean to seek the living descendants of the keepmasters’ kin. Those they find on the distant shore are both more and less advanced than expected.

The seekers become caught between the two sides, and face the challenge of bringing them together to make a better world. The prize: a chance to bring home miracles and a more promising future for their people. But if they fail this time, they risk not a stoning but losing themselves in the twilight of a never-ending dream.

A world divided, a mysterious girl--a boat where none should be.

After centuries of religiously motivated war, the world has been split in two. Now the Blessed Lands are ruled by pure faith, while in the Republic, reason is the guiding light-two different realms, kept apart and at peace by a treaty and an ocean.

Children of the Republic, Helena and Jason were inseparable in their youth, until fate sent them down different paths. Grief and duty sidetracked Helena’s plans, and Jason came to detest the hollowness of his ambitions.

These two damaged souls are reunited when a tiny boat from the Blessed Lands crashes onto the rocks near Helena’s home after an impossible journey across the forbidden ocean. On board is a single passenger, a nine-year-old girl named Kailani, who calls herself The Daughter of the Sea and the Sky. A new and perilous purpose binds Jason and Helena together again, as they vow to protect the lost innocent from the wrath of the authorities, no matter the risk to their future and freedom.

But is the mysterious child simply a troubled little girl longing to return home? Or is she a powerful prophet sent to unravel the fabric of a godless Republic, as the outlaw leader of an illegal religious sect would have them believe? Whatever the answer, it will change them all forever... and perhaps their world as well.

Juliet Wildfire Stone stands between two worlds. Her eccentric grandfather tells her stories about the Great Wind Spirit and Coyote, but he might as well be speaking another language. She’s started to hear voices and see visions, but even they don’t make any sense. All she wants to be is an average sixteen-year-old girl, but she has never been average—could never be average.

She is the Chosen and the Seeker Slayer, and our only hope.

Recently transferred to an exclusive school, Juliet is forced to choose between her new wealthy life and her Native American heritage. Unsure where she fits in, she stumbles upon a series of murders. Worried that her grandfather is involved, she discovers an ancient secret society, the Order of the Twisted Arrows—a society formed over two hundred years ago to keep her safe.

When the mysterious Seeker learns of Juliet’s existence, he threatens everyone she loves in the world, willing to kill to have her.

Betrayed by the young man she loves, she must decide whether to run or to fulfill her destiny as the Chosen.

  Praise for Wind Catcher:

“Many young adult books revolve around young adult decision-making processes, but the joy and excitement fueling Wind Catcher is that Juliet's search for truth doesn't end with its emergence, but with the bigger picture of what she'll choose to do with it. That's the heartbeat of a powerful saga that fully immerses readers in all the possible scenarios that can stem from one's choices in life—and the reason why Wind Catcher stands out from the crowd.”— D. Donovan

“Wind Catcher is one of the best thrillers for YA that I have read in some time. ... If I hadn’t had to eat and sleep, I would have read it right through without stopping. It is just that good!”— S. Price “Suze”

“What an amazingly unique story!! I can honestly say I have never read anything like it! I loved the strong Native American themes running through it as well as the deep plunge into the rich culture then and now. This story seemed to quench my thirst for knowledge of the more supernatural aspect to the Native American history and storytelling and I loved the creativity of the authors. Even though this is, in essence, a young adult book, I was literally kept at the edge of my seat while reading. The plot has some very intense situations as well as mature threads running throughout the story. I love that our authors see our “young adult” crowd as more than older kids; they see them as very intelligent and can handle the more mature themes including murder and secret societies. And come on, who doesn’t love secret societies?”— Amy @ Read to My Heart’s Content

Praise for Two Moons of Sera:

“The world building and population are mind-blowing. This author has a real knack for creating new races, and even factions within each race. And instead of any one people being clearly defined as the good guys, she portrays the Sualwet and Erdlanders as two different groups of individuals struggling against one another, both fighting for survival. There’s more I’m leaving out so I don’t spoil anything, but the creation of the characters alone is impressive.”— Jessica

“I was instantly and completely drawn in to Sera's world after just a few pages. In fact, my intention when I first started Two Moons, was to just read the first few lines, to see if it would be something I might be interested in, as I was already in the middle of reading another book, and I'm generally not a big fan of fantasy. Well one hour later, my family was eating a very well done dinner—I had completely shut the rest of the world out to dig deeper into the lives of Sera and Tor.”— Karen Toz

Aberthol Nauile doesn’t know that he o
nce led legions in a war that had raged since the dawn of time, against an enemy that could not be killed. He doesn’t know that he rode on a dragon with his father, or that his mother died while giving birth to him. He doesn’t know that he once saved his great, great, great grandfather by defeating the black enemy on the slopes of a volcano.

Aberthol doesn’t know that he beheld the creation of the world, as his grandfather eight generations before took the planet, ravaged by a war of the gods, and began anew.

All he knows is that he awoke in a coffin deep within a tomb, and now the whole world thinks he is their savior. All he really wants to know is his name, and why he keeps hearing voices in his head.

  Praise for Shadow Swarm:

“Having read other offerings from this author, I quickly found myself fully immersed in the story, unable to willingly set it aside for anything but short periods of time. The quality of writing was such that, as I tell my students, I was able to “see a movie in my mind”; a key, I tell them, to tell whether or not you’re encountering good writing. The development of the characters made them believable, realistic, and genuine.”— usafe7ret (Reviewer at Amazon)

The angelic amüli race has spent thousands of years perfecting immortality by binding their souls to human hosts. That tenuous grasp on life is slipping because an increasing number of stillborn amüli infants are born without souls.

When Marik’s daughter is born Unsouled, he strives to find out why. Many amüli believe disease is to blame for the Unsouled births, but Marik believes his half-human cousin Clae may be the real catalyst. The Amüli Republic’s oligarchy refuses to take a public stance on Clae’s involvement, instead instructing Marik to capture him in secrecy. Should Clae’s association with the Unsouled epidemic become public, the amüli would rise against all half-breeds and throw the Republic into chaos.

If Marik captures Clae and proves he is causing the mysterious deaths, the Republic may flourish once more. If he fails, his people will descend into a bitter civil war, destroying everything they have accomplished.
