  “I think it’s time for us to meet.”

  “Past time.”

  From that point on, he flipped the phone on speaker and let all of those around the table share in that moment. At first, there was some awkwardness, but soon they fell into a calm, pleasant conversation as if they were acquaintances that could soon be friends. This should have been a strange place, but it felt like coming home.

  He smiled at all those sitting around him. With the help of all these people, particularly the woman who loved him for who he was, he’d learned that blood ties weren’t important. What really mattered was in the heart.
