That’s when she hugs me and smiles, “I’m so proud of you.”
I wink at her, “Me too.”
Then she starts crying again. Just as emotional as she did in the car and I remember how I felt about that.
“Are you sure that you’re not pregnant again?”
She stops for a minute and says, “I better not be or your brother needs to get snipped and fast!”
I take a deep breath as I think about what’s going to happen right now. I’m marrying the man that has been my rock for the last four years. Something that I’d dreamt about for so long was finally happening, and all the nerves that I had when I stepped out of the car are washed away. I can’t wait to be his wife.
“Let’s get this party started!”
I scream out as I take her hand. A few minutes ago I was complaining that he hadn’t made an effort. He’d planned our wedding, but as I walk to the start of the aisle. Olivia winks at me and takes my hand and gives it to Gary.
“You ready sis?”
I nod, and then I loop in his arm, and a violinist starts playing, it’s a calm and soothing melody. I have a few colleagues who are smiling at me and whispering, “Good luck.”
There’s no stone unturned with this wedding, people that I’d never expected to come are siting and smiling at me. Then, I focus on him. The man that I’m committing to for the rest of my life.
“Here you go,” Gary whispers as he stands between Blake and me.
The register asks, “But where’s the best man?”
Gary chimes in, “I’m playing two roles today. Giving her away and the best man.”
“Okay.”
The registrar shakes his head and then adjusts his glasses. He goes on to explain the reason that we’re here today. Everyone's here to witness our union, and we're here to create that union.
I whisper as the register talks, “Mr. Fisher you may have planned our wedding, but don’t think that you’re planning the rest of our lives.”
He grins, “I wouldn’t dream of it.”
The ceremony is a blur until that time comes. The one where he kisses me and as I hold my breath I can’t believe that it’s all over. I kiss him with all my strength.
He looks down at me and says, “You’re kissing like a Fisher.”
I wink at him, “I learned from the best.”
He smiles, “You did indeed.”
And then I’m the one holding him and kissing him with all my might. I don’t feel powerless in his arms. For the first time in my life, I feel completely in control. I hear the registrar telling us that it’s over. We both ignore him. I have the rest of my life to kiss him. But this moment, I’m not ready to give up right now. Not in a long shot.
He’ll just have to wait- until not only Mr. Fisher’s done kissing me, but Mrs. Fisher also gets tired of it.
