She pushed the back of her head deeper into the pillow. “Yes,” she yelled.

With a grunt he lifted his upper body from her, giving her full access to his magnificent body as it worked to pleasure her. She watched as his muscles rippled as they moved and the way sweat coated his body. She wanted this forever.

When his movements began to quicken and his moaning became louder, she knew it was just a matter of time before he spilled into her, coating her walls with his seed. She held on tight, moving with him–they were one.

Without warning another wave of pleasure cut through her and when she came it was with such force that her vision darkened and a yell erupted from her throat. Her body contorted under him as she spasmed. His thrusts became uncontrolled. He tried to keep his pace but instead threw his head back and groaned. He pumped into her, filling her up, and when he was done he fell to lie on top of her.

She didn’t mind being crushed underneath his weight. She wrapped her arms around his body and held him close, letting the sweat drip from his body onto hers.

  … … … … …

  “Trudy.”

Even the call of her name couldn’t pull her from her dream. It had started off fine with Kristof on bended knee asking her to marry him. He opened a black velvet case and showed her a ginormous sparkling diamond ring. After she said yes, he leapt up and picked her off the ground and, while they both giggled and laughed, he twirled her around. The dream went from there to her at a church, standing in a wedding gown. Her dad had his arm wrapped in hers and they were standing before the closed church doors.

“Are you ready?” he asked her.

“Oh, Daddy, yes,” she replied, as happy as could be.

But just as the church doors were opening, she said, “Daddy, just remember that I love him and he loves me. Don’t judge Kristof on his looks alone. He’s a wonderful man…er wolf…er…”

The doors finally opened and standing at the far end, next to the preacher–who was a German Shepherd–was Kristof, in his wolf form.

“Isn’t he so fluffy, Daddy?” she asked, full of pride.

She began walking down the aisle, while her dad pulled on her arm, trying to stop her. “Trudy, Trudy, is this what you really want?”

But her dad couldn’t keep her back. She kept walking to Kristof as her dad dragged behind her. “Oh yes, Daddy. I love him. I want to spend forever with him.”

There was a nudge on her side that completely pulled her out of her dream.

  “Trudy, wake up.”

She opened her eyes. Kristof was sitting on the edge of the bed leaning over her. His eyes were full of concern as he watched her.

She smiled up to him. “How long was I sleep?”

“All night. It’s nine in the morning.”

“Wow, didn’t realize I was that tired.” She stretched her aching muscles and winced as pain radiated across her body. “Remind me to never go hiking with you again.”

“You’re probably sore from walking for so long, but…you might be sore from sex.”

“Really?” During round two and three they had utilized every surface of the room and even the floor. She shrugged. “I guess you could be right.” She raised her hand to cradle the side of his face. “I’ve never been worked out like that before.”

He pulled away. “That was a onetime event,” he said tersely.

She raised a brow. “Why? I don’t mind–I mean,” she searched her brain for the right words without sounding overly eager. “I’m sore, but that’s only because it’s been a while.”

  It’s been a while?

She closed her eyes against her embarrassment. How hard–up was she sounding right now? She hadn’t been with anyone in…shit how long had it been? She couldn’t even remember who she’d been with in the past. She’d never been loose, but apparently sex with Kristof had wiped her mind clean of any others before him.

“It was something my wolf wanted. I tried to fight against it, but sometimes when his emotions are strong enough, he can override me.”

His words swam through her head, not really making sense at first, but then…

She opened her eyes to slowly focus on him. “So, you had sex with me because of your wolf?”

He leaned back. His emotions seemed to drop from his face. “Yes.”

“And what did you want?” she asked, trying to keep her voice even.

“Not that. I could’ve injured you. And then what? I’d have taken you to a human doctor. What kind of explanation could I have given them to explain the scratches, bites…vaginal tears?”

She frowned and pushed the blanket from her chest. Inspecting her skin, she found a few scratch marks on her arms and a small indented area on her right shoulder that resembled a bite mark. “I’m fine,” she said. She looked up to find his eyes searching her body for marks just as she had done. “See? No real injuries.”

“What about your…um.” His gaze flicked farther down.

“Oh, my…yeah.” She lifted the blanket again and took a quick peek. The three small bruises on each of her thighs caught her attention. Fingerprints. The thought stirred her blood as she remembered how he’d held her thighs apart, digging his fingers into her skin as he’d fucked her. Any soreness that had been in her pussy was quickly replaced with something else. Need–hot need.

He closed his eyes and inhaled sharply. His head lolled back and his nostrils flared. Her body reacted to the way he looked right now, dangerous. And suddenly, whatever he was saying just moments before didn’t bother her anymore. She wanted him again. He took in another exaggerated sniff.

He shook his head, hard. His face contorted in pain.

She raised her hand to his arm. “What’s the matter?” His skin vibrated underneath her touch.

He shifted out of her reach. “We got lucky this time.” His voice was deeper than before. It had a guttural tone to it, making it sound…sexier. Her pussy throbbed again. “I’m not going to try it again and risk fate,” he continued.

She arched her back, tingles running up and down her spine. “You’ve never had sex with a human before?” Her nipples hardened. She wanted to touch him–she wanted him to touch her.

He stood and stepped away from her, backpedaling until his back hit the far wall. “My wolf has never had the desire to–I’ve never had the desire to and now that desire is met…” his voice seemed to strain with every word he took. He snapped his eyes closed. “I’m certain his appetite is appeased and he’ll quiet down now.”

  Appetite is appeased.

  Chapter Thirteen

His words penetrated the sex–crazed thoughts that ran amok through her head. She slowly let his words take form and their meaning take hold. She’d been a one night stand. Here she was gyrating on a motel bed and he’d just told her he never intended to have sex with her in the first place. That he’d only done it to appease his wolf’s appetite.

  Right.

“Am…am I hearing you correctly? Your appetite is now appeased and you have no further need for me?” She asked the question even though he’d just told her the answer.

  “Yes.”

She reached for the blanket and pulled it up to her neck. The feeling of embarrassment crept up her body. “Now what?”

He took a few controlled breaths. “Now we get back to work without any more distractions.” He finally opened his eyes to stare at her. “Will you be able to handle going back to a professional relationship? I know you humans are overly emotional where sex is concerned.”

Her hands gripped around the edge of the blanket tightly. “Are you implying that I won’t be able to continue doing my job because I’ll be so distraught that you won’t fuck me again?”

  “Well, not those exact words.”

Her blood began to boil. Yes, “humans” were emotional. She’d just gone through bliss, rejection, hurt, embarrassment, anger and being livid in the course of three minutes.

She narrowed her eyes on him, peering at him through the slits. “It ta
kes two to tango. You participated just as much as I did. ’Fuck me, oh yeah, Trudy, fuck me harder’,” she mocked. “That was all you. And you’re wondering if I can handle a professional relationship?”

“I told you, it was a momentary lapse in judgment.”

“I know the line. You were thinking with the wrong head. Ha!”

He crossed his arms over his chest. “Your behavior is not very professional.”

She put a hand over her face. “How fucking embarrassing. I can’t believe I got rejected by a werewolf,” she mumbled.

“I’m not a werewolf,” he thundered out.

“I’m not talking to you.” She raked her fingers through her hair, trying to untangle the knots.

“Werewolves are hardened bastards who can’t be trusted.”

She stopped mid–stroke. “You’re lying. Werewolves don’t exist.”

He smirked. “Yeah, like shifters and vampires don’t exist either.”

She closed her eyes. “I refuse to believe in monsters. I refuse to believe in monsters.”

  “I’m not a monster either.”

  “I was talking about vampires.”

He tilted his head. “In that case, you are correct.”

She maneuvered to the edge of the bed and stood. “Why couldn’t you have left me in Jacksonville? I would’ve never known about any of this.”

“Because you would have been killed,” he said calmly.

“Ugh!” She stormed to the bathroom door and paused at the entrance. She whipped around, fury crackled around her. “FYI. It may have been your wolf in the beginning, but most of it was all you buddy.” She used a finger to tap the side of her face. “It’s the eyes. They’re a dead giveaway.” And while his mouth fell open she turned and stepped into the bathroom, slamming the door behind her.

When the black limo pulled into a parking space just in front of his window, Kristof knew immediately it was Andras. He’d felt his Alpha as soon as his private jet had landed. That’s why he’d woken Trudy up to talk with her. He wanted to make sure there wouldn’t be any problems before Andras arrived.

When the limo door opened and then slammed shut, Kristof went to his motel door and opened it for his brother. He never had to tell Andras which room was his. His brother would’ve felt the pull of his pack mate.

“You look like hell,” Andras said as soon as he saw Kristof.

“What do you expect? I’ve had to sleep in these clothes.”

His brother breezed through the door and threw a bag at him. “I’m not talking about the clothes.”

Kristof caught the bag. “Hello to you too, dear brother.” He closed the door behind him and peeled off his old clothes and slipped into his business suit. He felt better instantly.

“Did you have a talk with your charge?” he asked.

Soon after having sex with Trudy he’d called Andras. He feared that his momentary lapse in judgment could’ve jeopardized their investigation into finding the embezzler.

“Yes, she’s still going to help us.”

Andras walked around the room, dragging his finger and picking up some dust from the furniture. “And the rest of the conversation? How well did that go?” Andras said, referring to Kristof’s plan to let her know that from now on their relationship would be purely professional.

Even though Andras as the Alpha could touch into his pack mate’s minds, he didn’t do so without a good reason. Only Alphas who were inexperienced or insecure read their pack member’s minds.

  Kristof shrugged.

“That good, huh?” Andras picked up the corner of the bedspread and wrinkled his nose. “Gross,” he muttered. “This entire room smells like sex.”

“Why did you come here?” Kristof asked. “You could have sent Hunter or Nikolai.”

Andras shrugged. To most people he and his brothers looked alike. They all had the same dark tone to their skin, dark hair and eyes. The slight differences were in their size and personality traits. Kristof, although the middle male, was larger than Andras and Lajos. Andras was almost as big as Kristof but not quite, being an inch shorter. Lajos was slender and lean, with more of a runner’s body. But another thing that they all shared was their love for each other and loyalty to the pack.

“I wanted to lay my eyes on Trudy and, plus, you’ve been through a lot. I wanted to make sure you were fine.”

Kristof snorted. “I’ve seen better days, but you didn’t have to come all the way here just to check up on me. I’m not a pup.”

“You’re my little brother. If checking on you makes me feel better then let an old man do it.”

Kristof laughed. “You’re two years older than me and I don’t know about you, but I don’t think of myself as old. What do the humans say? The thirties are the most vibrant time of your life?”

“Just because your driver’s license says you’re thirty doesn’t mean that’s the age you should feel. Besides, weren’t you still living with mom and dad when you were really in your thirties?”

Just then the bathroom door swung open. Trudy stood in the threshold. She had put on her clothes. They were dirty, but at least she was dressed. Even in this state his wolf perked up and prowled behind his mind.

Andras crossed the short distance of the room to reach her. When he did, he stuck out his hand. “Andras Farkas, CEO of Dark Wolf enterprises. Nice to finally meet you Ms. Hollander. Kristof has told me about the breakthrough that you’ve had regarding our audits.”

The hatred in her eyes that had been directed at Kristof just minutes before disappeared when she turned to meet Andras.

She put her hand in his, letting him shake it.

His wolf growled low at seeing her touch another male–Alpha or not.

“I’m sorry we have to meet under such circumstances,” she said.

Andras released her hand, but his wolf still didn’t calm. Kristof clenched his fists at his sides, fighting against the urge to go to them and pull her back, behind him, where he could protect her. His wolf had never reacted this way to his Alpha before.

“It is and I apologize. We were desperate to find the source of the embezzlement and seeking outside help was our only option. If we’d known that it would’ve put you or your loved ones in danger, we would’ve never agreed to it. This just makes us realize the source of our embezzler is in–house, which,” he let out a deep sigh, “has serious repercussions for our family and business.”

“Yes, any kind of an embezzlement that involves an employee or family member is a disheartening thought. I’ve dealt with this plenty of times. It has never been easy for a man…er…person…CEO in your position to confront someone who once held your trust.”

Andras smiled at her fumbling over her words and Kristof’s wolf tensed. Women swooned when Andras flashed his chops and Andras knew it. He turned around and winked at Kristof and Kristof felt a vein pulsating in the side of his forehead.

Andras turned back to Trudy. “I don’t think you fully understand my position. Everyone who works at or for Dark Wolf Enterprises is a relation or has sworn their alliance to the Farkas Pack.”

  “Oh,” she said.

Andras held out his hand to Kristof. “Kristof, the bag please.”

Kristof tossed the bag that he’d set on the bed to Andras. Andras handed it to Trudy. “I’ve taken the liberty of bringing you a change of clothes. Kristof didn’t make the request–he requested clothes only for himself–but I thought you would need some as well. Correct?”

  That motherfucker.

Trudy looked past Andras to glare at him.

When she turned to Andras she was all smiles again. “Thank you. I do appreciate a true gentleman.”

When she closed the door, Andras turned to look at Kristof, who was sure his eyes matched the ferocity that was just in Trudy’s eyes for him.

Andras shrugged. “What? Did you think I wasn’t going to make you squirm a bit?”

  Chapter Fourteen

Trudy did her best to ignore Kristof all th
e way to Michigan. She and Andras had talked about what she remembered seeing during the audit and if she thought she could replicate two week’s work in such a short time. She made sure to point out that Kristof had promised her she’d be home by Sunday and she’d work day and night to get the task finished.

She hadn’t told Andras the reasons why she was so adamant about going home on Sunday. He thought it was to return to her regular life and be available for Alice to help with funeral arrangements, but she also had other pressing concerns.

One, she didn’t want to be around Kristof for longer than needed. Even though he’d told her there couldn’t be anything between them, she still felt a pull in his direction. He was making all of her insides feel wacky and discombobulated. He’d rejected her and she still felt as though they were supposed to stay together. Her heart was being all goo–goo ga–ga and her head was telling her to snap out of it. But even so, there was this constant humming that seemed to emit from him and her body responded like it was a beacon.

She also felt an overpowering sense of connection toward Andras too, although it was a little different. With Kristof, she felt protection with a component of love and lust. With Andras, she felt as though he would always watch over her.

On the ride to the airfield, on the plane and even now, in the car ride to Dark Wolf Enterprises headquarters, she did her best to sit as far away from Kristof as possible, but putting distance between them didn’t help. She found herself leaning in whichever direction he was. She’d right herself and lean away from him but, without her being aware, she’d end up practically falling out of her seat toward him again.

Second, she needed to end the contract with having completed the job. The contract was going to end on Sunday regardless of if she finished the audit or not. She needed the reference and the money. She would have to hang up her pride until tomorrow and come out better, more successful in the end.

That was always the plan from the beginning. Why did he have to show up in Jacksonville and muddle the plan anyway?
