Yes, she told herself, her smile deepening, the future did indeed look bright.

“Don’t you two take too long on that honeymoon,” Garrett said, interrupting her thoughts. “We’ve got a lot of work to do to get this casino/resort back on the right track before winter sets in. Now that we’ve moved to the new site and gotten away from that stubborn vein of bedrock, the construction’s moving along full-steam-ahead.”

“The casino/resort’s going to represent an unusual alliance between the whites and Native Americans,” Jackson ventured.

“A lucrative one, I hope,” Garrett added with a nod and a smile. “I predict that in the near future, Whitehorn’s going to become quite a popular spot.”

Jasmine sighed. “That’s all well and good, gentlemen. But right now I’ve got more important things on my mind…like a wedding.”

No sooner had she said the words than she heard the sound of her mother’s voice directing their guests into the side parlor, where they’d set up chairs and a make shift altar in front of the windows facing Blue Mirror Lake and the peaks of the Crazy Mountains.

The group broke apart, joining the milling crowd as they followed Celeste’s instructions.

To her relief, Jasmine finally found herself alone with Storm. She looked up at him, feeling suddenly nervous. “It’s been a short two months. Are you sure you’re ready for this?”

“I couldn’t be any more certain if I’d had two years,” he said, his expression somber. “I want to marry you, Jasmine. I want to spend the rest of my life with you here in Whitehorn. Nothing will ever change my mind.”

She breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s all I needed to hear. I love you, too, Storm. I can’t wait to be your wife.”

Without another word, she leaned forward and settled her lips on his, sealing the promise with a kiss. Then, releasing him, she twined her fingers in his, holding his hand tightly as they made their way into the parlor, ready to face their future together.
