“Don’t do that shit in my garage.” Riley’s voice broke through the sexy haze being near Zoey created for me. “It’s disgusting.”
Zoey touched her forehead to my chest to stifle a giggle. She was short enough that I could rest my chin on top of her head before turning to my best friend.
“I brought you lunch.” Zoey handed the bag to her brother before I could lob my retort.
“Thanks, but seriously… keep that shit to where I can’t witness it. There are certain things a guy shouldn’t have to see when it comes to his sister.”
I chuckled. “What you don’t see should be what you worry you.”
“Oh my God, you’re an idiot.” Zoey playfully slapped my arm.
“You’re fired.” Riley waved his hand over his shoulder as he walked away. “Get the fuck out of my shop.”
This was a standard response these days, at least since I’d told him I was in love with his sister. He didn’t really mean I was fired, the shop would be fucked without me there, but it gave Riley something to hold over me when he felt the need.
“Works for me,” I said with a shrug. “Just gives me more time with your sister to act out those images you don’t want to think about.”
Riley threw his hand up, middle finger extended, behind him as he kept moving.
“Don’t aggravate him,” Zoey said when we were alone again.
“But it’s fun.”
“You two are like children.” Zoey chewed her lip the way she did when she was nervous about something she wanted to say. I waited patiently for her to be ready to say it. “I was thinking… you stay at the apartment every night so I was thinking that maybe you should just move in. Or move back in. Whatever.”
A big smile smeared across my face. It should’ve embarrassed me how happy that idea made me but I didn’t have it in me. “Don’t fuck with me woman. It’ll only take fifteen minutes to pack my shit up.”
“I think I can spare you for fifteen minutes tonight.”
“You want me to live with you?” I asked her quietly, my heart filling with love and about fifty other emotions I couldn’t completely make sense of. I’d been staying with my mom still because it was close to Zoey and honestly didn’t want to be bothered by finding a new place.
“It makes sense,” she said with a shrug as if she hadn’t just asked me to move in with her.
I took a step toward her, which given how close I’d already been meant most of our bodies were touching. “So you want me to move in with you because it’ll make sense?” I didn’t want to let her off the hook too easily. I wanted her to actually say what she wanted and why and not be afraid of that. Plus whenever she said she wanted him for anything it did shit to his heart. Made him feel like he was on the top of the world.
Personally, I would’ve moved right in the first night we were together but I still had some doubt to erase from Zoey’s mind. The doubt I’d put there by being so back and forth with her. But the past months had been all about making sure she knew I was by her side for the long haul. That I wanted to be there. I spent every spare minute with her making sure she knew that she alone owned my heart.
Zoey shook her head. “I want you there. I don’t want there to be a question as to where you’ll stay each night. Basically, I don’t want you to have a choice but to come home to me.” She bit her lips together trying not to smile at that last line. As if I even had a choice now.
“I don’t have a choice, Zoey.”
Her beautiful full smile won the battle and broke through. “I love you, too, Wyatt.”
After another quick kiss, I watched Zoey walk out of the garage, the sway of her skirt calling out to me. I’s have to get back into the Chevy I’d been fixing when she showed up just keep from running after her. If I did that, I’d throw her into her car and make sure she knew just how little choice I had when it came to her.
And how fucking happy that fact made him.
