Everyone was at Symir’s house waiting for Asia to come back. They had thrown Wysdom a welcome home party because this was a big deal for them. Knowledge sat in the backyard holding his daughter in his arms, not wanting to let her go. He had waited so long for the day he would be able to hold her and not have to leave her at the hospital anymore.

Symir and Cole were starting to get worried because Asia had left two hours ago. It didn’t take that long to go to her house and back because they lived in the same neighborhood. Both Symir and Cole had been blowing her phone up. Neither one of them wanted to say anything and alert anyone just in case they were overreacting.

Symir knew that wasn’t the case though. Something in his gut was telling him that something wasn’t right. His gut had never steered him wrong before and he knew it wasn’t about to steer him wrong now.

“Did you call her?” he asked Cole and Knowledge.

“We keep getting her voicemail,” Knowledge said as he fed Wysdom her bottle.

“This shit not right. I’m about to go see what’s up with her,” Symir said as jumped out of his seat.

“Yo, I’m coming with you!” Knowledge yelled.

“Hell, you know I’m rolling,” Cole said just as Crystal walked over for her grandbaby.

“I’m not going to ask, but be safe, please,” she said to her three boys.

The whole ride to Asia’s house, Symir couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. It wasn’t like Asia to not answer her phone. You could call her at three o’clock in the morning and whether she was sleeping or not, she would still answer.

When they pulled up to her house, her car wasn’t in the driveway.

“Bruh, I didn’t come strapped because I didn’t want to disrespect the party like that,” Cole said.

“And I didn’t because I had Wysdom with me,” Knowledge said.

“No worries. Knowledge, look in the glove compartment,” Symir said.

Knowledge opened the glove compartment and there sat four Desert Eagle guns. Knowledge shook his head. Symir stayed prepared for shit to go down. After everyone grabbed a gun, they went for the house. Symir was praying that Asia had just left here and was on her way back to his house.

When they walked into the house, Knowledge’s attention immediately went to the blood at the bottom of the stairs. Fearing the worst, he alerted Symir and Cole.

  “Y’all, look!”

Cole and Symir ran to the stairs and Symir’s heart dropped in his chest. “No.” He shook his head. “This shit ain’t real,” he said.

The TV had been left on and there was a special breaking news report.

Hello, I’m Judith Helm, coming to you live with breaking news. Police have been on the scene of what seems to be a car that was intentionally set on fire. The car has been burning for well over an hour here on I-95. The police are suspecting foul play was involved because this part of the highway was closed down due to construction. Police are asking for information from anyone who may have witnessed this crime. From what we know, there has been a body found in the vehicle but it was too badly burned to identify who it was.

Linx and Cordae sat in the house watching the news with smiles on their faces. Their plan had worked perfectly. They went in and out without any problems this time.

“That car on fire shit was brilliant, Linx.” Cordae smiled.

“I know. You think they’ll fall for it?” he asked.

“Hell yea. Symir don’t deal with the police too much so he won’t want anyone doing investigations and shit like that,” Cordae answered.

Their eyes shifted to the monitor where they noticed Asia finally waking up. Linx took it upon himself to go down there and check on her.

Asia looked around and noticed that her arms and legs were tied to a bed and she was only in her panties and bra. She started panicking and wondering where the hell she was.

“How nice of you to join us.” Linx smiled.

Asia squinted her eyes, trying to see if she knew him from somewhere but she didn’t. She wanted so badly to cuss him out but she couldn’t because her mouth was taped shut, preventing her from lashing out. All she knew was that she recognized his voice. He was the one who attacked her and the nail marks in his face confirmed it.

Linx walked closer to Asia and got closer to her ear.

“Let’s see how much your bitch ass brother cares about you. Maybe I’ll sample the pussy before I get rid of you. Or, maybe I’ll treat you like I did that worthless crack head bitch Nika.” He smiled sinisterly.

At that moment, Asia knew who he was. She had never had any personal run-ins with Linx but she had heard plenty about him from both Nika and Symir. Lord, please let my brother come in here with his guns blazing.

  Chapter One

Symir sped to the crime scene like he was in a race against time. His heart felt rage more than it felt any other emotion. He was silently praying to God that this was all a mix-up and that it wasn’t his sister’s body that they had found in that car. It was me that Cordae and Linx had a problem with so why would they feel the need to go after Asia? He didn’t know what he would do without his sister; she really held a big piece of his heart.

Before he could even put his truck in park, he was jumping out of the car with Knowledge and Cole hot on his heels. The police were at the scene and he ran right past them. Thankfully, Derrick was out there. He ran after Symir who was already at the car.

He walked up behind him just as Symir lost all feeling in his legs and they gave out on him. “No,” he whispered. “NOOOOOO!” he yelled.

Even though the body in the car was burned, he could still see the diamond necklace around the neck. It was the same necklace that Knowledge had given her for her birthday. Asia hadn’t taken it off since he gave it to her and that was all the confirmation he needed to know that was in fact his sister in the car. Not giving a fuck about anyone around, he sat on the ground and cried.

Derrick slowly walked over to Symir with a pain-filled heart. He had been down with Symir since day one so he knew how he felt about his sister. Everyone who knew Asia couldn’t help but to love her. He bent down and picked him up and pulled him into a brotherly hug.

“My baby, man. Asia was my fucking heart,” Symir cried.

“Don’t worry. We’ll get them bastards,” Derrick said.

As if something snapped inside Symir, he pulled himself away from Derrick and got himself together. He wiped his tears away and straightened his clothes out. Derrick looked in his eyes and noticed that his once soft brown eyes had turned coal black and were filled with malice. Without another word or a second look, Symir walked away from Derrick and headed back to his truck. The police tried to stop him and ask him some questions but he blew them off and kept walking.

When he reached his truck, Cole and Knowledge had somber looks on their faces. Sitting in the passenger’s seat, Knowledge had his head in his hands trying to hold back the tears that were threatening to overflow at any minute. Symir put the truck in drive and sped away from the scene. He called Derrick on his cell.

“You good?” Derrick answered. He knew that look in Symir’s eyes all too well.

“Fuck naw, I ain’t good!” Symir lashed out. “As a matter of fact, I’m on my way home so I need you to have somebody down at the station to send me some info on Linx’s whole family. I want his mama, daddy, grandma, sister, brother, cousin, aunties’ and uncles’ addresses. And I want them before the day is over!” Symir ordered before hanging up without giving him a chance to respond.

  Symir had bee
n trying to be nice and keep his cool, but niggas had touched the untouchable. Now everyone was about to see a side of him that they were going to wish they had never brought out. They had awakened the beast inside of him that hadn’t been woke in years. His heart was full of hatred.

After hanging up with Derrick, he called his travel agent. He knew shit was about to get real, so he was sending Anika, Sasha and Crystal, and Symare out of town.

“Sandy speaking. How may I help you?” Sandy Brown answered.

“Sandy, this is Symir. I need you to find me eight tickets, airline tickets, leaving out of Miami and going to North Carolina tonight. Raleigh to be exact,” he said.

“I’m on it now. I’ll email you the tickets when I’m done,” Sandy assured him.

“You still got my card number and shit?” he asked.

“Yes, sir. I’m looking at flights as we speak.”

“Good looking out,” he said before he hung up.

Since he had sped all the way, they reached his house in about ten minutes. He had forgotten all about the festivities that were going on and he hated that he had to end things. When he pulled up to his house, Mickey was standing in the front yard consoling his mother while Anika sat on the porch holding Sasha as she silently cried.

“Shit!” he yelled as he climbed out the car.

Crystal looked up at her son and broke down all over again.

“Tell me it’s not true. Tell me my baby is alive,” she cried.

All he could do was swallow the lump that was forming in his throat and pull his mother into his arms as she cried for God and yelled ‘no.’ Knowledge got out of the car and was surprised to see Chelsea pulling up. He was a little thrown off because she had no reason to be there and he didn’t know she even knew where Symir was lived.

“What’s up? What you doing here?” he asked as he pulled Serenity out her car seat and hugged her tightly.

“Ummm… I brought Serenity to see her sister. What’s wrong?” Chelsea asked as she looked around, wondering why everyone was crying.

Before Knowledge could speak, Symir walked over with Juanita who was carrying Wysdom.

“Their plane leaves in an hour. I’m sending the ladies and Mare with your mom to chill out for a while. Your mom and sister are taking Serenity and Wysdom with them,” he said.

“My baby is going where?” Chelsea asked.

Symir didn’t even spare Chelsea a glance as he walked away. After that stunt she pulled at the hospital, he had nothing nice to say to her. Plus, he wasn’t in the mood to say too much.

“Come on, Serenity,” Juanita said as Serenity climbed out of Knowledge’s arms and walked over to her grandma.

Chelsea stood there looking at Knowledge for some answers but he wasn’t saying anything. She stared at him while he looked off into space with this far off look in his eyes along with tears.

  “Omari, what’s wrong?” Chelsea asked.

Hearing her call him Omari made his heart crack as he thought about Asia. She was the only person besides his mom that he allowed to call him by his birth name.

“Go home,” he said sternly before walking away. Without looking back, he headed in the house and sat in the living room with Cole and Mickey. Juanita gave him Wysdom so he could hold her before they left for North Carolina.

Asia laid in the cold basement strapped to the bed with tears in the corners of her eyes that she refused to let fall. She knew it was karma for all bad she had done in her life, from setting people up for her brother to the few killings she had done. God was probably even punishing her for killing the man who was responsible for killing her parents, Knowledge’s father.

She knew that wasn’t the lifestyle her parents wanted her to live, especially her father, but what other choice did she have? She wasn’t going to just sit back and let another nigga come up due to all the work that her father had put in. She knew she could have just fallen back and let her brother handle everything, but she felt like she just had to contribute in some way.

She never did see herself as the housewife type and always wanted to be in on the action. Even though none of her kids were planned, she wouldn’t trade them for the world. Now, because of her choices, she was wondering if she would ever get to see Symare or Wysdom again. She knew without a doubt if she didn’t make it out alive, her kids would be very well taken care of by not only her mom and brother, but definitely by their fathers also.

At this point, she was even missing Knowledge. No matter how bad he may have hurt her, she still couldn’t lie to herself and say that she didn’t love him. Even if they didn’t end up together, she knew that he would be a permanent fixture in her life because of Wysdom.

Asia was snatched from her thoughts by the sound of footsteps approaching the door. She sighed as she tried to prepare herself for whatever bullshit was about to come.

“Well, well, well. What do we have here?” Asia heard as she rolled her eyes.

Linx walked over to Asia and took the duct tape from her mouth. Her skin started to crawl as he looked her body over and licked his lips in the process.

“Damn, if I knew you were this fine, I would have left Nika’s ass where she was at and went straight for you.” He smiled.

Refusing to dignify that with a response, Asia just rolled her eyes. Not liking to be ignored, Linx grabbed her face and turned it so she was looking at him.

“Bitch, don’t think I won’t fuck your little ass up,” he sneered.

Asia spat a wad of spit in his face. “Kiss my ass and go to hell, bitch.”

Linx raised his hand to hit her but a voice stopped his movement.

“What did Cordae tell you about keeping your hands to yourself?”

Linx looked behind him. “Back the fuck up, C. This bitch just spit in my face!” he yelled while Asia just laughed and shook her head. She couldn’t believe who was standing right before her eyes.

  “Something funny?” C asked.

“Hell yea,” Asia continued to laugh. “All this shit is a big joke to me. Especially you. Now how did you link up with these two? I never would have thought you would do some grimy shit like this.”

“Bitch, please. You don’t even know me and let’s not talk about grimy. You were the one fucking my nigga, not the other way around.”

“So that’s why you’re really mad? Because little ol me made your so called fiancé fall in love with me with no effort?” Asia continued to laugh. She couldn’t even take Chelsea seriously right now.

In all honesty, she shouldn’t even have been surprised because a wise man once said, ‘Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.’

  Chapter Two

It was almost two o’clock in the morning and Symir, Khyree, Cole, Mickey and Knowledge were sitting around at Symir’s vacation house going over the plan for what was about to go down. It had been two days since Asia had been gone and not one of them had slept a wink. Symir refused to sleep until he had avenged his sister’s death.

He knew that what he was planning on doing wasn’t going to bring Asia back, but it was going to inflict the same pain he felt. He wasn’t trying to think rationally. Cordae knew how he could get so he should have known better. Obviously, he wanted to knock on death’s door and Symir was going to be the one to open it and let him in.

“Okay, now that we got everything in order, Khy and Knowledge, it’s time we talked,” Symir said. Cole and Mickey got up to give them some privacy but Symir stopped them. “Y’all don’t have to leave. We’re all family.”

Knowledge sat up to hear what Symir had to say.

“I know in the past the two of you didn’t get along for whatever bullshit reason, but it ends today. The both of you have a piece of Asia and the two of them are going to need each other as they grow up. Khy, you know Symare is not going to let a day go by without seeing his sister, and he shouldn’t have to. You two need to put the past behind you and be the best fathers I know you can be. Wysdom and Symare need you now more than eve
r,” he said.

Both men knew what Symir was saying was the truth. Deading their issues, they extended their fists and gave each other a pound. They both realized that the so-called beef between them was petty and uncalled for.

“Okay, now that we have that settled, let’s get down to business. The women and children will be back in two days for the memorial, so we need to make a move tonight,” Symir said as he checked his gun to make sure it was loaded.

Hours later, all five men were in South Beach sitting in front of a house that Derrick gave them the address to that was supposed to be Linx’s mother’s house. All the lights were out in the house so Symir was guessing that whoever was in there was asleep, which was better for him. He loved using the element of surprise.

“I don’t give a fuck who is in the house. Put something hot in their ass,” Symir told them with venom dripping from his voice.

It had been a while since he’d had to get down and dirty like this, but niggas had crossed the line so he really didn’t give a fuck. They touched his mother and sister and had shaken up his nephew, so there was definitely hell to pay. They all exited a truck Symir had borrowed from his homeboy’s chop shop. They were all dressed in all black with murder on their minds.

They walked around to the back of the house were Cole jimmied the lock while Symir, Knowledge, Mickey and Khyree pulled out their guns. Symir looked each one of his comrades in the eye before giving the okay for them to go in. Mickey was the first to go in. They followed the sound of the TV in the living room where a young boy was asleep on the couch. Without a second thought, Mickey put a bullet in his head and kept it moving.

A light came on from upstairs and they heard footsteps.

“Charles, is that you? Come on up here and get in the bed,” a woman, who they assumed to be Linx’s mother, said.

Symir followed the sound of the voice and the light up the stairs with his gun down at his side. Khyree slowly followed behind him while the other men stayed downstairs. The old woman’s eyes got big when she noticed Symir coming up her stairs and her hand immediately went to her heart when she saw his gun.
