Angelina was unsure as she took the case from him and slowly opened it. She sighed with relief when she saw a key in the case. It was not that she didn’t love him enough to be ready to spend the rest of her life with him, it was that it was all too soon. But seeing the key there made her breathe easy.

“I know it’s a little soon to ask you to move in with me but we already spend a lot of time in my penthouse so maybe you should be able to come and go as you please,” he said as he gently ran his hands on her bare arms. “What do you say, baby?”

She leaned on his shoulder and smiled.

“I don’t know what to say when someone hands you a key in a case,” she said. “I want to say yes…” she never got to finish her sentence. He was kissing her, his tongue running on hers.

“That is the only word I wanted to hear,” he said when he pulled away.

  *****

As she looked into the mirror, Angelina began feeling like her dress was not enough. She was wearing a knee length bandage dress with golden sequins around her neckline and wrists. There were figure defining sequins on either side of the waist line even though she did not need any kind of help in that sector. She had on a pair of five inch high strapped peep toe heels and her hair was pulled back into a tight bun. She had a pair of golden earrings dangling from her ears and even though she thought she should have gone with a strapless maxi dress, Adrian couldn’t stop staring.

“Be honest. I can take it,” she said as she looked at him.

“Are you sure this is your first white party?” Adrian asked as he looked at her and she nodded. “Then you are off to a pretty great start,” he added with a smile. His eyes traveled down her body and he smiled. “That dress is going to be the death of me, baby,” he whispered.

“Maybe later we can sneak off and see just how flexible this fabric truly is,” she said.

“That sounds great,” he nodded as he slipped an arm around her waist. “Come on. It’s time to meet the guests.”

She took a long deep breath when they began walking out. Her heart was beating hard and fast as they made their way out of the house where the guests were gathered. The entire place was loud and every person present was more glamorous than the last one. Angelina saw a number of people from the party she and Adrian had attended a few days earlier and at the back of her mind, she found herself wondering if Sophia was going to show up.

“Wow, Angie,” Olivia said when she saw them. “You look amazing.”

Angelina looked at Olivia’s one shoulder dress.

“You don’t look so bad yourself,” she said with a smile.

“And I see the boys had the same idea when it came to attire,” Olivia said looking at Adrian’s white slim suit pants and linen shirt. Angelina shrugged.

“Not really. Alex is in all linen,” she said a little loudly, trying to get her voice over the music.

“Holy shit,” Adrian suddenly muttered under his breath.

“What?” Angelina asked as she looked at him.

  “Sophia's here,” he said.

“You invited her?” she asked in a whisper.

“No. She must have come as someone’s plus one.” He sighed. “But don’t worry. Today is about us, remember?” he added as he looked into her eyes.

“And speaking of the two of you, I think your sister is walking towards you,” Alex said.

“How do you know that…?” Adrian started before a dark haired woman ran into his arms. She was squealing excitedly.

“She kind of looks like you and her eyes lit up when she saw you,” Alex said as the woman practically swung on Adrian.

“Alright, little sister. Contain yourself,” Adrian said as the woman pulled away from him.

“I can’t help it. I’m just so excited to see you!” The woman was practically jumping up and down. Angelina hid her smile. She could not help but notice a hint of a British accent in her voice.

“Kayla Corday meet Alex and his…wife?” Adrian said as he looked at Olivia.

“Ex-wife,” Olivia pointed out with a smile. “Olivia.”

“Nice to meet you Alex and Olivia.” Kayla said with a smile.

“And this is Angelina Carter,” Adrian said as he slipped an arm around her waist. “My girlfriend.”

Kayla raised an eyebrow over the other. She looked genuinely impressed.

“Girlfriend, huh?” she said as she looked at Angelina. “Nice to finally meet you.” She pulled Angelina into her arms and gave her a big hug. “Oh my days, you are so fucking beautiful.”

“Language, Kayla,” Adrian said as he rubbed his temple.

“I’m sorry…I’m just excited to meet her and she is so hot!” Kayla was holding Angelina’s hands and looking at her from her head to her well-manicured toes.

“Thank you,” she said in a soft voice. She was not sure she could hear the unsure tone in her voice.

“Mom and dad are outside talking to JD. Did you know that he is still been in the music business?” Kayla asked.

“Wait, JD as in Jermaine Dupree?” Olivia asked, surprised.

“Yeah, you know him?” Kayla asked.

“Are you kidding me? Every black person knows about Jermaine Dupree,” Alex said excitedly. “We have to get out there. I need to get something signed.” He took Olivia’s hand and led her away before she could even say anything.

“So, those two are divorced?” Kayla asked frowning and Angelina nodded.

“That’s not the best part,” Adrian started as he took two glasses of white wine from one of the waiters walking by. “They have been married twice and divorced. Twice.”

  Kayla shook her head.

“So they are not together but they are together?” she asked still frowning and Angelina nodded. “Why? I mean, how does that even work?”

Angelina smiled and took a long sip of her wine.

“Apparently, it only works for those two when they are not married.”

“So, now they are just together and there is no future there?” Kayla asked and Angelina nodded.

“For them, having no future is their kind of future…it’s complicated.” She took another long sip.

“Trust me Kayla, it will be easier for you if you stop trying to make sense of this whole situation. I gave up on that a long time ago,” Adrian said as he took a long sip of his wine.

“Well it is good to see you big brother and just a heads up, mom and pops brought Sophia,” Kayla said. Angelina’s eyes grew wide.

“Your parents are the ones who brought Sophia?” she asked as she looked at Adrian who was nodding knowingly. “So she was their plus one?” she asked again and Adrian nodded.

What Angelina didn’t know was that for Adrian’s parents, Sophia had always been the ideal woman. She was from the same circles and they knew her. For them, she was a safe bet but as far as Adrian was concerned, she was just another woman he had fucked and too bad for her, she had developed some pretty strong feelings for him. But he had never had a real relationship with her. He didn’t even know her middle name. All she was to him was an object he loved to tie up and have his way with. A woman he liked inflicting pain on just to get off. That was all she ever was to him. And it was like she didn’t know it.

He looked up and saw his parents walking towards them.

“Oh damn, big brother. Here they come,” Kayla said. She turned to look at Angelina. “You are really nice and I am really sorry for what is about to happen.” She turned back to her brother. “I’m out Adrian.”

Angelina looked at Adrian as Kayla ran off.

“Please tell me your parents are not that bad,” she said in a whisper as she looked at a woman in her fifties and a man wearing an expensive suit walking towards them.

“Sadly, she is right,” Adrian said without looking at her. “They are that bad.”

“Adrian,” the woman said when they got to where he and Angelina were. “Everything looks so beautiful,” she said as she gave Adrian a hug. It was one of those hugs that seemed
grossly insincere. Angelina hated to come to the conclusion that she was as pretentious as she had thought him to be.

“Mother. Nice of you to come.” Adrian said. Angelina could tell that she was forcing a smile.

“Why are the two of you always so formal?” the man asked as he pulled Adrian into his arms. By the way he was acting, Angelina concluded that Kayla’s jumpy nature was all from her father’s side.

“Hi dad,” Adrian said when he pulled away. “Rolex? Are you trying to outdo me?” he asked gesturing at his own watch.

“Ademars Piguet…good taste,” his father said with a smile. “And who is this dashing beauty?” he asked as he looked at Angelina.

“Angelina this is May, my mother and Daniel Corday, my father. Mother, dad,” Adrian started as he slipped an arm around her waist. “This is Angelina Carter. My girlfriend.”

“Finally,” Daniel said as he looked at Angelina. “I was beginning to think his stubborn nature would never get him a woman to settle down with.”

By this time, Angelina had already studied the Cordays and could tell that May was the cold one, the more reserved one maybe even a little pretentious. Her husband was the complete opposite. He was warm and friendly and by the way he was talking to her, she could tell he was already warming up to her. And the way Adrian called her ‘mother’ and him dad, almost as if he was trying to put some distance between himself and his mother.

“And he got a beautiful one too,” Daniel said.

“Please sir, you are making me blush,” Angelina said smiling.

“Oh please, call me Daniel,” he said in a soft voice.

“Well it is nice to meet you Daniel, May…”Angelina said politely.

“You may call me Mrs. Corday,” May said coldly.

“I’m sorry, Mrs. Corday,” Angelina said.

“Mother,” Adrian said in a warning tone.

“What, that is my name, isn’t it?” May asked.

Angelina looked at her and wondered what she was supposed to say.

“Why don’t we get something to eat, Angelina?” Daniel asked as he took Angelina’s hand. “When these two start it usually takes a while and it helps if you are not in the line of fire,” he added as he gave a disappointed look at Adrian and then at his wife.

“What on earth was that, mother? You just met her and all you can think of doing is making her feel uncomfortable?” Adrian asked.

“I never did any such thing Adrian. All I did was tell her how she should properly address me,” May said.

“You brought an ex of mine to my party and I just introduced you to my girlfriend and you decided to rain on my parade. And you wonder why I don’t come home? It is because of you.”

He was about to walk away when May held his hand, holding him back. She looked at him when he turned around.

“Sophia is the woman for you and you know it,” May started. “She is from a good family, she is reputable and she understands our lifestyle Adrian.”

“Our lifestyle? What the hell is that supposed to mean?” he asked as he looked into her eyes, angrily.

“You know what that means. This ghetto woman…” May started as she looked at him. Adrian shook his head.

“After all these years you still seem to forget one major thing mother,” he started. “You were once one of those women you detest and your social climbing got you to Daniel Corday. At least Angelina is her own woman, something you will never understand,” he said before he walked away leaving a stunned May behind.

He was breathing hard as he walked around looking for his father and Angelina. By the time he found them, he was breathing so hard he was almost hyperventilating.

“You alright there lad? You look a little rattled,” Daniel said when he saw Adrian.

“Your wife, dad. Talk to her,” Adrian said in a low but annoyed voice.

“You mean your mother,” Angelina said matter of factly.

“I know but…it’s complicated,” Adrian said as he took her hand in his. “Dad may I steal her from you, please?”

“No problem. I have to go put out the Corday fire,” Daniel said with a smile. “It was nice to meet you Angelina. I hope I get to see you again before the evening is over.” Angelina nodded as Daniel walked away. She turned to look at Adrian and shook her head.

“What the fuck was that?” she asked as she looked into his eyes. “Why do you even call your mother ‘mother’ like some stranger?”

“Because that is exactly what she is. A stranger to me,” he said as he led her back into the house. “And right now I don’t need to talk about my mother.”

He was walking so fast that she almost tripped.

“Adrian, you are too fast!” she complained as she trailed after him. “Where the fuck are we going anyway?” she asked as she yanked her hand from his.

“I need you,” he said in a whisper. “I want you right now.”

He was breathing hard and Angelina could have sworn she saw a tear glistening in his eye.

“Adrian,” she said in a whisper.

“Tell me I can have you,” he whispered as he looked into her eyes. “Please tell me I can have you.”

“I am yours, Adrian. You can have me whenever you want,” she said in a soft voice.

“That is not what I want with you. I want you to want me, Angie.” He took her hands in his. “I need you to need me.”

  Angelina smiled.

“Are you reciting the Cheap Trick song lyrics right now?” she asked.

“It’s a coincidence,” he said. She took his hand and smiled before she began leading him to the master bedroom.

“I do want you. Every single day,” she said when they were in the master bedroom.

He pulled her into his arms and kissed her deeply before he walked her to the dressing table. He kissed her again and let his hand run down her torso, feeling her every curve. She moaned softly into his mouth as he pulled her dress up. He pulled away from her and looked at her, a smile on his lips.

“You didn’t have any panties?” he asked as he looked at her and she nodded. “All this time?” he asked again and she nodded again. “You are just asking for this, baby,” he said as he turned her around. She gasped when he bent her over the dresser and held her down with one hand as he used his spare hand to fumble with his pants. The excitement of the moment was enough to get her wet. He brought a hand around and gently stroked her moist pussy making her moan over and over.

“I want you,” he moaned softly.

“Then have me,” she said without turning around. “Take me.”

Adrian didn’t need any second bidding. He moved closer and placed his cock at her opening. She gasped when she felt him push himself into her. He was working himself into her slowly, filling her and feeling her every fold. She moaned as he began moving in and out of her slowly. She held on to the dresser as he began moving faster and deeper into her. There was something different about how he was fucking her. He might have been thrusting hard but the way he was holding her, the way he was caressing her, he was being softer than usual. He was moaning louder and louder as he drove himself deeper and deeper still. The pace he was going at made it almost impossible for her to hold on to the dressing table. She was moaning and gasping for breath as she felt him slamming his pelvis into her until she couldn’t hold on anymore.

“Oh shit…” she cried out as she felt her body giving in.

Her orgasm was all he needed to get his release. He groaned softly as he felt himself emptying into her over and over.

“I needed that,” he moaned as he laid himself on her before his cock slipped out. Adrian pulled away and walked to the bed. She turned around and walked over to where he was.

Angelina climbed onto the bed and lay next to him. “I can’t think of a better person to experience the rest of my life with, you know with,” he said as he draped an arm around his lover. She never said anything. She just smiled and snuggled into his body, knowing she had found the man who she would always be
with.

  The end.

  Chapter 1

Leila followed the wheelchair, in which her mother sat, down to radiology preoccupied with the details of how they were going to get through this. There was some sort of problem with insurance and the term ‘pre-existing condition’ was being bandied about with disconcerting frequency. The cost of this test alone, if not covered was going to wipe out at least a quarter of her savings. She tried to school her delicate features when she saw her mother glance back at her. No doubt she realized the seriousness of their situation but still Leila didn’t want her to worry. They’d get through this somehow, the money would be found or insurance would pay. What they would not do was despair.
