“Would you like some coffee?” he asked.
“Coffee sounds good.”
While it was brewing, they went into the family room. She started to sit on the couch, but he held her up. He dropped to one knee, “Lisa, I love you and want to take care of you and Kyle. Will you marry me?”
“Yes I will, but first, let me ask you, will you marry us? All three of us? Gunner is part of the family.”
“Yes I will.”
The coffee was ready and they each got a mug and returned to the family room. They sat on the sofa just looking at each other. Neither said anything for a long time. Then Lisa said, “Where will we live?”
“What’s wrong with living on Post?”
“Nothing at all. Which house?”
“I know how much you loved Matt, and I could live there. My memories here aren’t that memorable.”
“I don’t know. I’ll have some fond memories of this house, and giggled. And blushed.
They talked long into the night, before going to bed together for the second time.
They awoke the next morning to a clear day that was going to be a memorable day. A sleepy Kyle wandered into the bedroom. “Mommy?”
She lifted him onto the bed. He looked at Chuck and said, “Hi.”
Chuck embraced them both. Lisa said, “I want to call Mom.”
“Why don’t you use the phone in here and I’ll take Kyle into the kitchen?”
“Mom, it’s going to be a few days before I can come. No, no, there’s nothing wrong. Mom, we’re going to get married. Kyle and I are getting married. Chuck Carson asked us to marry him. You met him at the funeral. Yes, he lives next door.”
“Lisa, not another soldier. You’re not marrying another soldier?”
“Mom, he’s not another soldier. He’s a very nice man and he loves both of us and he happens to be a soldier.”
“When will the wedding be?”
“We haven’t set a date yet. He just proposed last night. He’s going to take leave and come with me for the visit with you and dad.”
“Let us know when you’ll get here. We’ll have to change things up a bit.”
“I will Mom. I love you. Mom, I’m so happy right now, I could burst.”
She went back into the kitchen where Chuck had already started breakfast. He had Kyle sitting on the counter watching the process. Mom said, “You’re not marrying another soldier?”
“And what did you say.”
“I told her you were my most favorite soldier and you loved both Kyle and me.”
“I’ve been thinking, why don’t we talk to Post Housing and see if we can get signed up for a bigger house, if not, we could live off Post. Also, I think we should sell both houses of furniture to a couple of nice families and start off with our own.”
“I like the convenience of living on Post, but a bigger house might be nice. The furniture idea is a great idea. By the way, have I told you this morning that I love you? Well, I do.”
“No, but the eggs are going to burn if you don’t let me finish this. Then I’ll finish you.”
“Now that I like the sound of.”
Chapter 9
They had a full morning planned. Since Post Housing opened first, they went there with Kyle in tow. Gunner was asleep on the patio. Lisa turned in the key, and arranged for the move out inspection. Storage was already set up for her furniture. Chuck spoke up and said, “We’re going to get married and Lisa has a son. I would like to apply for a larger home. How long is the waiting list?”
The Post Housing Officer asked, “Do you live on Post?”
“I have the house next door to hers. We can stay in my house since her furniture’s in storage, until something larger becomes available. Lisa wants to live on Post but we can rent in town.”
“Hold on and let me check and see what is happening.”
Chuck held up his hand with his fingers crossed. Lisa smiled as the officer returned. “You would be releasing two houses, Captain, is that correct?”
“Yes, that is correct.”
“With another dependent you would qualify for a larger house. As it happens, one will be opening the middle of the month, in about 3 weeks. It would have to be painted and made ready. Does that work for you?”
“That will be perfect.”
“I’ll get the paper work processed. Can you come back this afternoon or tomorrow morning and pick it up. We close at four.”
“I can do that.”
The next stop was the personnel office. Chuck applied for leave. Since he was not up for a mission and had 60 days on the books, the personnel officer, a young 1 Lieutenant, said there should not be a problem getting it processed for the captain today.
His next stop was to the company office and his commanding officer. His CO was in and Chuck was invited into the office. The door was closed, with Lisa remaining outside seated in a typical military gray metal chair. The door opened, and Chuck came out and said, “Honey, come in. I want you to meet my Commanding Officer. Major, this is my fiancée, Lisa Turner.”
“Mrs. Turner, it is my pleasure to meet you. Please accept my congratulations. You’re marrying a fine officer with a promising Army career. Captain Carson is an excellent officer. I’m given to understand your late husband was a Night Stalker? They’re the group we want at our back whenever we go in.”
“Thank you Major; it is our pleasure to meet you. My husband was Captain Matt Turner. He died outside Kabul. This young man is the future General, Kyle Turner.” The major extended his hand and Kyle shook it, his tiny hand lost in the huge fist of the Special Forces officer.
The major said, “Good work Captain, I’ll sign your leave papers today. You can pick them up this afternoon.”
“Thank you, Major”
He did a smart about face and left the room.
Back in the car, Chuck said, “About a ring. Would you like to go to the PX first and look at theirs? Then we can go into Clarksville and look at them in a real jewelry store.”
“You don’t need to buy new rings. I can use mine.”
That brought an emphatic “no” from Chuck. “I don’t want to wipe Matt from your life. He was my friend, but I want you to have my rings.”
“If it weren’t against the rule for public displays of affection, I would kiss you. I’ll settle for this and she patted his hand. Let’s go to the PX.”
“Lisa, please don’t consider price. Don’t be practical. Pick something you like, remember, you’re going to wear it forever.”
“Yes sir, Captain Sir.” It was followed by one of her irrepressible giggles.
After looking at many choices, and a catalog, Lisa selected a Marquis Cut solitaire. It fit perfectly and would not have to be sized. She also selected a wedding band to match.
Chuck picked up his leave papers, and they went to Post housing to sign the papers there. They were ready to leave two days later.
Lisa called her mother, “Mom, we’re leaving tomorrow morning and plan to split the trip. We’ll stopover in Texarkana and should be home around noon. I’m so excited, I can hardly wait.”
“Lisa, make sure you drive carefully. We don’t want anything to happen to you.”
“We will, Mom. See you day after tomorrow. Love you. Bye”
The planning was done and everything set for the trip. Lisa put Kyle to bed and then headed to the master bath to get ready for bed herself. She had brought her most filmy negligee. It was a pale diaphanous blue. It left nothing to the imagination, but then Chuck had seen it all last night. Nevertheless, she was both excited and shy about getting in bed with him.
There was a sharp intake of breath when he saw her. She was a vision in pale blue. She was smiling a shy smile and climbed in beside him. He was wearing boxer shorts with no tee shirt. “You like?” she asked.
“I like very much,” he replied. He reached for her, hungry for the feel of her. They came together for a prolonged kiss. She molded every inch of her body to his and clung to him during and
after the kiss.
“I love you Major Carson.” Chuck had recently received a promotion to Major. He was in the 5% “below the line” selected for early promotion.
“And I love you too, soon to be Mrs. Major Carson. Never in my life did I expect to feel this way about anyone.”
Their love making did not have the frantic rush of the night before. Rather it was the long slow movement of two people familiar with the body of the other. It lasted for a long period of time with touching and feeling, and kissing but none of it interrupted the process of the love act. Lisa squirmed a bit and began to speed up her movements. Chuck felt her desire build matched her movement, and they climaxed together with a satisfying feeling of completion. They were both spent, but pleasantly so, and fell asleep spooned together.
Chapter 10
A heavy rain was falling when they pulled out of Fort Campbell. They stopped at a Cracker Barrel for breakfast and were well and truly on their way.
They headed toward Memphis where they would cross the Mississippi River and then to Little Rock. They decided to stop for the day in Texarkana and make it to Dime Box by noon. It had been a good day. They shared the driving and felt pretty good when they pulled into an Embassy Suites Hotel. The suites provided a nice touch in the extra room space and the breakfast in the morning.
They were up and dressed early and found the breakfast area not crowded at all. They were able to get custom omelets and scrambled eggs for Kyle. Chuck had taken Gunner for his morning walk, then fed him and put him in the kennel. Lisa checked Kyle, changed him and they were off.
Lisa had given her mother a good estimate. They pulled into the Barrett’s driveway just after noon.
Her mother met them at the door while her dad, Ed, stood in the background. She hugged all three of them. “I’m glad to meet you under more pleasant circumstances, Chuck.”
Her dad came over and said, Welcome to our home, Chuck. It’s good to see you. I’ll help you get the bags from the car.”
“That’s okay, Mr Barrett.
“Nonsense, besides, I think Sue wants to talk to Lisa.”
When they went outside, Lisa’s mother said, “Lisa, Dad and I talked about it and we don’t mind if you share a room. I’m sure you’re used to it.”
“Mom, last night was the third time we’ve slept together. The first was the night he proposed.”
“Well, I just thought with the way things are these days…” And her voice trailed off. She was embarrassed at having brought the subject up but pleased at what she heard from her daughter.

Lisa asked, “Where and when do you want the wedding, honey?”
He answered, “It doesn’t matter where, as long as you’re going to be there. When? The sooner the better.”
“We have more friends at Campbell, but if you would prefer having it here, that’s okay too.”
“It would make Mom happy if we had it here, but the Post would be all right with me too. A quiet wedding would be nice and it would be quiet here. Plus, if we go on a honeymoon, Mom would love to babysit Kyle. Are we going to have a honeymoon? What about your family?”
“They wouldn’t come no matter where. I’ve the black sheep of the family since I joined the Army. Dad wanted me to join him and take over the farm. Let’s have it here.”
“Okay. Let’s tell Mom in the morning.”

The next morning…
“Mom, we would like to get married here, by your pastor. Is that all right with you?”
“Oh Lisa, that would be wonderful. We’ve got a lot of work to do. You and I are going to be have to get busy. I’ll have to talk to the reverend; you’ll need to get the license.
I’ll bet my wedding dress will fit you. Let’s get it out and see what kind of shape it’s in.”
Lisa looked over at Chuck who was smiling. He winked at her. She asked, “I’ve never asked, but do you fish? Dad would rather fish than eat.”
“I love to fish. We had to catch or trap our own food in survival training and I’ve caught and eaten fish several times. It beats MREs.”
“Dad, MREs are meals ready to eat. They’ve replaced the K-rations you complained about so much.”
Chuck said, “I’ve had K-rats and they were pretty bad, most of them were older than I am. MRE’s aren’t too bad and they’re in cans so you don’t have to add water or anything.”
Mr. Barrett and Chuck became engaged in types of fishing gear, boats, and which fish tasted best. Lisa was happy. She had scored points with her dad. She’d thank Chuck for picking up the ball and running with it. In her own special way. That night, in her old bedroom, Lisa’s reward for Chuck turned out to be as rewarding for her as it was for him. At first, she was nervous with her parents down the hall, but Chuck’s calm manner and foreplay pushed the nervousness completely away. It was a great evening and a perfect climax to a great day.
Her mother’s wedding dress was in excellent condition and with a few nips and tucks would be great. Lisa hadn’t seen it in a long time, but it turned out to be from Priscilla of Boston, one of the top gown makers in the country.
The wedding was planned and came off as planned. Some of Lisa’s old schoolmates attended the Saturday afternoon affair at the church, with a reception at Lisa’s mother’s home.
While all of the planning was going on, Chuck made reservations for their honeymoon trip to New Orleans.
Following the wedding and reception, they left for New Orleans. They spent their wedding night in the bridal suite at the Omni Hotel in Houston.
They had eaten enough at the reception that no evening meal was necessary but Chuck had ordered champagne on ice and it was waiting for them when they checked it.
Lisa told him she wanted to wash away the trail dust and went into the bath. She came out with a freshly scrubbed face, her hair up, a smile and wearing another diaphanous negligee, this one in green. It really enhanced her green eyes. She was pleased with the expression on his face and when she said, “Mom gave it to me.”
“Incredible, freaking incredible. Come here darling. I want to try and tell you how much you mean to me.”
The bed was huge and very comfortable, with silken sheets and pillows. Lisa lay back on the bed and said, “I feel like royalty.”
Chuck removed the green negligee that wasn’t really concealing anything. He kissed her softly on the cheek, then a bit more firmly on the mouth, then on the ear. He kissed her neck and she began quivering while goose pimples were popping up on her arms. Kissing his way down to her pert, firm breasts, he rubbed each of them in turn, and traced an outline of the erect nipples with his tongue. Reaching back to the night stand he picked up a small glass and poured champagne on her breasts. He caught it up with his tongue. The moans were very audible now. She was quivering on the edge of fantasy. More champagne ran down her tummy in small rivulets. These he lapped up with his tongue.
He parted the lips of her pussy and massaged the clit with his tongue. She went over the edge and into the throes of a climax. He didn’t stop but he inserted a finger into the moist center of her being. Still exploring with his tongue, the climax continued, the sounds coming from her throat were not unlike those of an onrushing train, louder and louder, reaching a peak when he moved his tongue inside. She grabbed his head with both hands and pulled him down harder. When it ended, she was speechless with emotion. She was physically spent and said breathlessly, “You’re going to have to give me a minute to recover.” He held her tightly, moved his talented tongue into her ear and slowly around the edges.
“Oh my God, what are you doing to me? Never in my entire lifetime have I felt anything like this. She slid her hand down his belly, over the hard muscles built from endless hours of training and weight lifting. She grasped his huge member and said, “You’re very big tonight” She moved down and took him in her mouth. The head was very moist, and there was a slight emission on the tip. She licked it up and began moving up and down and in and out. It was Chu
ck’s turn to moan.
He put his arms around her shoulders and said, “That really feels good, but don’t make me cum. I want to be inside you.”
Chuck was almost on his back; she put one leg over and outside his leg, then reentered her crease. It still fit nicely. She moved rhythmically, but when she felt him tense, she stopped and waited a few seconds and started moving again. This was repeated several times until he took her hips in his hands, pulled her against him and with a mighty thrust he pulsed again and again. His thrusts were deeper each time until, with one final thrust then he let out a long satisfied sigh.
She moved up until she was looking him straight in the eye and said simply, “I love you Chuck Carson.” All of the tension relaxed and she lay contentedly in his arms.
This was the first of several episodes during the night but none were as intense. Finally, sometime late, or rather early in the morning they awoke. Chuck ordered breakfast through room service.
Lisa said, “I’m not going to be able to sit comfortably for a week. I’ll need to get a cushion.”
In a poor imitation of Bogart, he said, “It ain’t over yet schweetheart.”
He reached for her and rolled on top and looking into each other’s eyes they made love again. Finishing just before the knock on the door and “Room Service” was called out. Chuck got up, went to the door, signed for the check and pulled the cart into the room.
After all of the strenuous physical activity they were both ravenous and polished off the steak and eggs in short order.
After breakfast, the newlyweds showered together, taking such delight in soaping each other, they did it twice.
As they headed east towards New Orleans, on I10, Lisa said, “I don’t know what has happened to me. I can’t get enough of you. Maybe it’ll get old, but I could jump your bones right now.”
“It’ll never get old or mundane if I can help it. You’re the perfect partner for me. I don’t know how I can ever leave on another mission again. I don’t want you out of my sight. I don’t think I’ve ever been jealous before, but I’d probably kill old Chasin if he showed up again.”
