“That would be nice. Eddie!” Deena started unbuttoning her coat. “Take off your gloves!”

“Why?” he said as he removed them.

She took his hand and pressed it to her stomach. Eddie felt the slight flutter under his hand and grinned. He embraced Deena from behind and hugged her close with his free arm. “That’s our baby. That’s the most fantastic thing I’ve ever felt,” he said.

“Me, too. I wasn’t sure at first if I was imagining things or not. I’m glad you got to feel it, too. Eddie, I am so happy,” she said.

He kissed the side of her head. “I know the feeling. Honey, button your coat again. I don’t want you catchin’ cold.”

She did up the buttons, turned in his arms, and looked into his eyes. “You know, there have been so many changes since you and I started courting. Some have been good and some have been bad, but we’re still together and that’s what’s important.”

Eddie nodded. “I know. Maybe we had to go through that, kinda like a test, you know? If we just talk to each other, we can work through anything, Deena. I don’t ever want anything like that to happen between us again.”

“Right. I think we should make that a New Year’s resolution.”

“Good idea,” he said and gave her a long, tender kiss. “Mmm. I love kissing you.”

She smiled. “I’m glad because I love it when you kiss me.”

He tightened his arms around her and said, “I wonder what next year will be like.”

“Wonderful, I hope. We could all do with some good things to happen. Whatever comes, though, we’ll have each other. Always,” she said.

  Eddie nodded. “Always.”

Soon they went back inside to their apartment to get out of the cold air. They settled on the sofa in front of the fire, neither one speaking. They were content just to be with each other, thinking over all that had occurred in the months since May. The future was uncertain, but whatever changes lay ahead, they would face them as one, each supporting the other and those around them. And that, they vowed, would never change.

Zoe Fontaine comes from Green Bay, Wisconsin to marry Will Foster, a handsome assistant feed mill manager with a heart of gold. He’s funny, kind, and smart; the perfect man for her, except for one thing. When it becomes glaringly apparent that neither is attracted to the other, they agree to part ways. While Zoe feels badly about the situation, she can’t deny her fascination with the young, mesmerizing Lakota brave, Raven.

Raven helps Zoe out of a tricky situation one night and instantly becomes attracted to her. She’s beautiful, clumsy, sweet, funny, and he wants her for his own. Though he’s afraid of stepping on his friend, Will’s toes, he begins a campaign to sway Zoe’s affections in his direction. Raven knows that he’s the right man for Zoe and is determined to convince her of it.

Once her choice has been made, Zoe and Raven become the picture of happiness and plan their wedding. However, horrible events take place that no one could have foreseen and their future together hangs in the balance. Are the odds insurmountable or can they find a way to reconnect and regain the joy they used to share?
