Burn: Dragon Shifter Romance Page 37

Samantha giggled. “Yes, but I’m not writing anything on him. He is one of our time’s absolute best psychiatrists, and I just want to pick his brain.”

“That’s sweet.” Garrett said. He shoved a spoonful of food into his mouth. “I like to read; I travel very often… cooking is another passion of mine but Kenneth hardly allows me into the kitchen.”

“You just mess it up, and put everything in places that it’s not supposed to be. The gravy boat will be inside of the crock pot; the crock pot will be tucked away in the cabinets that no one ever uses- I cannot perform my best if you’ve been dicking about in my kitchen.” Kenneth got to his feet, and grabbed a large bottle of wine and three glasses.

He poured all of them a glass and Samantha chortled. ‘So Kenneth does know how to loosen up.’ She took a sip of wine, and a delicious mixture of grapes and sugar washed over her tongue.

  “This wine is excellent.”

“Thank you, I picked it. It was one of those times I chose to dick around at the market.” Garrett sipped from his glass as well and the three of them laughed as the waning sunlight cut through the curtains in the kitchen, washing all of them in soft light. Garrett fidgeted as he finished his last few bites of food.

“It’s going to be a beautiful night...” He mumbled.

Samantha pushed her bowl away and sipped at her wine. She crossed one of her legs over the other and her hand lazily rested on the arm of the chair. “Oh? Do you stargaze, also?”

Kenneth and Garrett shared a glance and a smirk formed on both men’s faces. “Something like that.”

Samantha shrugged off any attempt to decode the hidden meaning in their smiles. She finished off her glass and held it out to Kenneth, “Any chance I could have another?”

“Absolutely. Look who’s finally gotten comfortable enough to drink with us, Garrett.” Kenneth said, as he poured more into her glass and filled it to the brim.

Garrett peered at Samantha, and his eyes took in her breasts and flushed face. “I want nothing more than for you to be comfortable.” He said, his eyes glinted dangerously and Samantha blamed their drastic change to a deep blood color on the wine.

She drank more wine and Kenneth brought out a cheesecake for desert. The creamy desert complimented the wine perfectly, and Samantha sighed in contentedness. As she spooned another piece of cheesecake into her mouth, Garrett pushed back from the table and smiled at her. He scrambled up the steps, and her eyes followed him until he disappeared out of sight, and she eyed Kenneth for questions.

  Kenneth shrugged. “More wine?”

“I think I’ve had plenty… and if I eat any more cheesecake I’m going to burst. Sorry, if that’s too much information.” She peered up the stairs again and Kenneth began to clear the table. If she had been herself, she would have offered to help.

Instead, she stood up and wobbled. She righted herself and started to go up the staircase. She called to Kenneth, “I’m going to review my notes.”

A mumble was heard from the dining room in return, and Samantha focused her attention on the room down the hall. The room that she had managed to keep her mind off of for four days now despite its proximity to her own bedroom. She approached his finely decorated door, probably an architect’s gift to Garrett’s ancestors, and knocked softly.

Not even a whisper, or the sound of snores. She knocked again and frowned. ‘I guess I could take this as an opportunity to get to know Garrett.’ She turned the knob and it gave way immediately. The door creaked open, and the room was dark except for the faint glow of the courtyard that was creeping in from Garrett’s balcony.

Samantha examined the stark white walls, and the very few paintings that hung on them. There was a small area for drinking closer to the entryway. A couple of blue chairs were placed next to a small bar. ‘Does he entertain often?’

The balcony doors were wide open, but Garrett was nowhere in sight. “What the hell?” She wondered aloud as she stepped across the white carpet and as close to the balcony doors as she dared. Her breathes were heavy and shallow, and she tried to smother the noises she created. Her fingers dug into the carpet as the glass doors to the balcony began to quiver.

A monstrous roar resonated throughout the courtyard and a dark shadow eclipsed the balcony.

“Shit.” She muttered, as she scrambled to hide behind the blue chairs. The shadow lingered and another horrifying roar was sent out, like a beacon. The roars ceased and the shadow disappeared. Footsteps made the floor of Garrett’s bedroom creak.

Samantha held her breath as Garrett stepped into his bedroom, stark naked. The finer and more impressive parts of his physique were highlighted by the courtyard’s lights. A strong and muscular back stood out on his lean form. His ass was round and firm. ‘I might faint if he turns around. Where did he go?’

He pulled on a currant colored robe and Samantha focused on the slightly opened door. He walked over to his small liquor collection, and she could hear a cork being squeezed out of the bottle. He coughed and said, “Samantha, it has to be uncomfortable behind there. Would you come out?”

Samantha’s heart beat so fast that it jumped into the middle of her throat. She rose to her feet on quivering legs, and braced herself on the back of the blue armchair. “G-Garrett, I wanted to discuss the session so I followed you and I saw-

He handed her a glass of rum. “You saw me returning? I care more about that then I do about you glimpsing me naked. I hope that you’ll return the favor.” He winked at her and gestured to the other chair. “Have a seat, we’re good friends now.”

Samantha dumbly nodded and eased into the armchair. “What was that? Did you hear the roaring?”

“Something like that. Samantha, when you were a little girl did you believe in ghosts? Vampires?”

“For a bit. I always thought it was a shame that we got stuck in a boring world where they don’t exist.” Her hands trembled as she raised the rum to her lips.

“Well, it’s not that they don’t exist. The problem is that they have to conceal themselves as doctors, students, and teachers. It doesn’t end at vampires though, ghost, werewolves, dragons, they’re all real.”

“… is this a part of my lesson? You test my ability to diagnose the traits you’re exhibiting?”

Garrett cackled. “Not at all. It’s real life. Witches and demons and dragons are real.”

“Was that a dragon on your balcony just now?”

He set his glass down and his dark red eyes lightened to their normal light brown color. “I was on my balcony just now. I am… the dragon.”

  “Excuse me?”

He sighed and held up his pale hand in between them. She gawked at it as it slowly morphed, and the skin peeled back to reveal scales, dark red scales that glistened like rubies. Long claws jutted out from where his nails were before. “That bullshit that they give you in high school? That the Komodo dragon is the last living dragon, is a lie. There’s many of us- waiting to be discovered. And when we are, we wait for acceptance..”

Samantha nodded and hesitantly ran her hand along the scales. “So, what are you, really? A dragon, a man?”

“Both. I feel the need to stretch my wings every night however, which is why I excused myself. I got a little riled up tonight, sorry about the noise.”

Samantha drank the rest of the rum, allowing it to sting against the back of her throat. “I-It’s fine. So, what happens now? It’s fine that I discovered your secret?”

“This isn’t a horror film. It wasn’t exactly a secret; you would have found out if a time ever came… I wasn’t expecting you to be so adventurous as to sneak into my bedroom, though. Is there anything that you want to know?”

“I can’t seem to think of anything at the moment, I apologize. For, you know, the nakedness, and the sneaking, and finding out your secret.” She stood up, and immediately regretted how quickly she got to her feet. “I’m going to go to my bedroom?”

He nodded, and she wobbled out of his bedroom and into the r
oom next door.

  Chapter 4

The wind was a perfect accent to the breakfast that Garrett and Samantha were sharing. Kenneth had prepared some of the finest deviled eggs she’d ever had. As she sliced her eggs into quarters, she peeked at Garrett. He ate his own breakfast with an uncanny normalcy. Although he had been comfortable enough in the weeks after she discovered him to slice his eggs with his claws, recently he’d decided not to.

Samantha felt a pang of guilt. ‘He’s gone out of his way to make me comfortable with who he is, and I haven’t shown any interest.’ There was no preexisting manual on how to politely inquire about one’s magical creature status. He hadn’t censored his nightly flights since that night, and neither of them had probed at what she had seen before he slipped into that robe. ‘Now that is something that I’d like to discuss.’

Kenneth poured a cup of coffee and cup of orange juice for Samantha, offering her a warm smile. She grinned in return, relaxing in her pale yellow sundress. Garrett met her eyes as she accepted a refill, and he smiled, but only silence followed.

  “G-Garrett?”

  “Yes, Samantha?”

“Is there any chance we could go for a walk in the garden before the session later?”

He scraped the last of his eggs off of his plate and nodded. “Yes, that sounds great. Is something on your mind?”

She drank the rest of her orange juice and they walked over to the road that led to the gazebo. They passed the gazebo and its shady bench and they strolled down the path with the flowers that hung from precarious angles. Samantha grinned at Garrett, a peaceful expression rested on his face.

“I wanted to know more about you. I feel like I stole that information from you, and it caught us both off guard. Tell me about what it’s like to be a dragon.”

Garrett chuckled. “About the same as being a human. Except that for now, until society evolves, I have to hide. That’s okay. That’s what this skin is for.” He held up his hand.

“But you were so straight forward with me…”

“Not entirely. I have… ulterior motives.”

She stopped and took his hand in hers. “Well, I respect the man and the dragon. I’m still amazed by your work, and I’m happy to learn more about this other side of you.”

“Thank you, Samantha.” He squeezed her hand and held her gaze for a moment. Then he leaned down and softly pressed his lips against the skin on her hand. “I guess we can stop acting like strangers now.”

  *******

Samantha froze, her fingers gripped her sheets and she pressed herself flat against the bed. ‘What the hell is that noise?’

There had been some rattling and she could have sworn that she heard a footstep, but it was so faint she had been tempted to ignore it altogether and fall back asleep. ‘There’s no way that Garrett doesn’t have excellent security here. Or maybe he is the security.’

She slowly pulled herself into an upright position as she heard another thump and a soft hiss. She flicked the light on by her bedside table and the room was illuminated in a harsh, orange glow.

Garrett squinted under the lights and laughed as he grabbed Samantha’s hand. “Did you think that I was a burglar or something?” He yanked her up, and she gasped. She was only dressed in a long t-shirt. Garrett took in her long legs, and the shadows of her breasts for a long while before his dark eyes met hers and he said, “We’re even now, I guess. How about you get dressed? I wanted to show you something kind of interesting.”

  “This late? Isn’t 3 AM?”

“I’m sorry, do you have a curfew? We don’t have any clients tomorrow, now get dressed.”

Reluctantly, Samantha rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and walked into the bathroom with a pair of jeans. She tugged them on and ran a brush through her wavy mess of hair, and shrugged when it refused to cooperate at that hour.

Garrett was waiting patiently by the door when she came out, and as she approached him he pulled open her bedroom door. “Okay, follow me.”

They walked next door to his bedroom, and he opened up the balcony doors. A cool, nighttime breeze fluttered the loose tendrils of Samantha’s hair. She looked up to Garrett for an idea of what he was planning. “Did you want to show me the balcony?”

“Not exactly.” There was a crackling noise, and his body snapped and contorted. His human torso was blistered away until it became covered in bright red scales. He hissed slightly, as the scaly and powerful wings swept up a gust of air.

  “Get on.” He breathed.

Samantha ran her fingers along the smooth scales, and gasped at how they felt underneath her fingertips. There was no burning hot feeling, they didn’t clip the sensitive skin on the smooth side of her hand. They felt like granite. She looked around for a place to mount him, and braced herself on both of his wings. She kneeled and patted his neck in confirmation.

With one heavy breath, he took off into the sky and she clung to him as tight as she could. They rocketed through the navy colored sky, tearing clouds apart. He propelled through the air at that speed until Samantha’s hair couldn’t be called anything but a wild mess.

He slowed to a cruising speed and they floated just above the manor.

“What do you think?” A deep, rumbling voice vibrated from underneath her. She rested her head against his and grinned. “I like this. I wish I could be a dragon sometimes.”

Deep cackles could be heard as he shifted, and they soared back to the balcony. She slid off of him and the hissing and cracking began again, and before she knew it, a naked human man stood in front of her again.

He signaled for her to sit down on the bed and she did. “While I can’t make you a dragon- that’s an extraordinary trait that vampires have- I can tell you about me. My family actually became dragons from a curse, and it was only recent generations that figured out how to control the gene that would make some of us become dragons.”

“So, you have family members that are regular humans?”

“Very few.” He slipped an arm around her shoulders, and she eased into his embrace. “Some walk on two legs most of the time like me, but they have more dragon like qualities. For example, I have a cousin named Brett, and Brett very rarely has to take flight, but has fangs and claws that need to be out for most of the day. He can light his home on fire if he becomes too angry. He’s more likely to take flight than to let that happen though.”

“What about your parents?” She asked.

“They both take flight like myself. I think we must have been more closely related to the original member of my family that got cursed.”

Samantha squeezed one of his arms. “If this isn’t offensive, it seems like more of a gift than a curse. I mean, you’re strong, you can see the world from as high as you want, and you look stunning like that.”

Garrett offered her a kiss on the cheek. She accepted, and he moved to the soft and sensitive skin in between her neck and shoulder. Samantha shuddered as his tongue rolled over her collarbone. He pulled away and hungrily looked at her nipples, that threatened to poke their way through the cotton of her thin t-shirt.

She nodded, and he lifted it over her head. Her perfect and ample breasts fell into his hands. He ran his fingers over the smooth skin, and gave them a rough squeeze. A small moan escaped her lips, and he caught one of her nipples in his mouth. Samantha squirmed, breathing as if she had run ten miles.

Garrett’s fingers traveled down her flat stomach until they reached the thin, wispy hairs that covered her pussy. He slipped a long finger into her, and she was slick with want.

He rolled his finger around inside of her, and the tip of his finger flicked her plump clit. Samantha hissed and writhed under his touch, he pumped his fingers in and out of her, her thighs threatening to clamp together tightly. She gasped, and he pulled his finger out of her. She caught her breath, and yanked the button to her jeans open. Samantha shimmied out of them, and spread her legs. Her pussy stared at him, and invited him.

  She smirked. “Go ahead
, I’m not afraid.”

“Good.” He said. A persistent and powerful erection had formed a few moments ago. He leant down between her open legs and his tongue scooped at her lips and clit. She shivered and bucked her hips into his mouth, but he pulled away. He replaced his tongue with his long, thick cock, she gasped, as she could feel every inch of it. She swelled around the hardness of his cock, and her fingertips sank into the skin on his back as he rocked his hips back and forth. His cock sank deep into her pussy, as deep as it allowed, and then he pulled it back out to do it over again.

Samantha squeezed his cock as tight as she could, and Garrett took one of her breasts in his hand. He flicked the nipple as he bucked his hips into her, and it became slicker and slicker.

She cried out, loudly enough for Kenneth to hear, as she tightened around him. He sighed as his pumps slowed, and she gripped him tightly enough to bring him over the edge. He came inside of her, and with heavy breaths, collapsed on top of her. Samantha wrapped her arms around his neck, and held onto him as she eased into sleep.

  Chapter 5

“G-Garrett, stop, we have Laura in an hour!” Samantha whispered, as Garrett pulled off her underwear and dived in between her legs. She arched her back, as his lips and tongue attacked her pussy. She moaned as her fingers burrowed deep into his hair.

The sun was starting to come up and was poking through the curtains in Samantha’s room. Moments ago, she had been preparing her notes for the session when Garrett entered and decided to ease her onto the bed with kisses on her neck and breasts.

They had fell into a routine in the last few weeks. Patients were still seen most of the week, and learning still commenced, but at the beginning or end of each day, some lovemaking was guaranteed. However, Samantha hadn’t desired to rush the word ‘love’ into things before it had to be addressed. Her in home study of Garrett and his patients would be over in a few weeks.
