Summer Bender Page 21

I looked over at Hannah in awe. “Tell me this doesn’t belong to who I think it belongs to.” She shrugged, smiling, then locked her bike up against a tree. I followed suit, unclipping Luke so he could sniff around on his leash.

Logan strode out from the front door, holding a bottle of beer with a koozie slipped on. Dylan was right behind him, drinking his own beer. He waved when he saw us, then both of them strode forward to hug us. Dylan hugged me, then Hannah. Logan pulled me into a bear hug after placing the bottle of beer on the ground.

He held me tightly as I stared dazedly at this house. “Logan, who lives here?” I asked, fearing that I already knew the answer. He grinned widely.

“I do,” he said happily. “I bought a house here, with my obscene money that you keep harping on about. Now you don’t have a reason not to date me. Other than your snobbery over money, of course.” I shook my head at him. He was unbelievable. “What?” he asked. “Annoyed with the holes I’m poking in your extremely weak argument against me?”

I ignored this and strode forward to hug Dylan. “Where’s the beer?” I asked, and Dylan gestured inside. I walked through the foyer into the kitchen, which was directly to the left, and grabbed a beer from the cooler on the ground. I let Luke off his leash and looked around. I sipped my beer as I inspected the place. Logan had obviously hired a decorator for the house. It was decorated in beach shabby chic decor, with driftwood picture frames and seashells everywhere. The living room to my right was giant and airy, with wall to ceiling windows covered by gauzy curtains.

My perusal was cut short by a very large, very slobbery dog leaning heavily against me and licking my hand. I looked down at Rocket, who was looking back up at me and wagging his tail happily. I stroked him for a while, then went back outside to join everyone else. They were standing in the front yard, chatting happily. Logan looked up when I walked outside and grinned.

“Okay, if everyone wants to head out to the back deck, I can show you guys the fire pit,” Logan said, grabbing my hand and pulling me into his side. He led the way inside, gesturing for everyone to follow him. His excitement was contagious and I found myself grinning goofily at his happy trot.

Logan slid open his back door to reveal a truly breathtaking view. There was another patio there with steps leading down onto the beach. Down on the beach, there was a fire pit set up, with Adirondack chairs and side tables arranged in a semi-circle. Dylan grabbed the beer cooler and led the way down to the fire pit, all of us trailing along behind him. The dogs ran out the back door, darting past us and onto the beach.

“Should I be worried about the dogs?” I asked, looking around at the surrounding houses.

“Nah,” Logan said, squeezing my hand. “They’ll come back when they’re ready.” His gaze bored into mine. I loved him so much in that moment, it was breathtaking. I opened my mouth, ready to finally tell him, and he brought his mouth down on mine. God, he was a good kisser. I decided to tell him later, when our mouths were less occupied. I smiled against his mouth and he licked my lip, then pointed towards the fire pit. “Want to make s’mores?” I nodded, letting him lead me to a chair next to his.

We sat down in the chairs opposite Dylan and Hannah. Hannah was attempting to light the fire with little success, while Dylan looked on in amusement. After a few minutes of this, I grabbed the lighter out of her hand and lit it myself, then sat back in my chair, holding hands with Logan.

We sat around the fire for hours, making s’mores and drinking lots of beer. It was around midnight when Hannah stretched her arms over her head, yawning. “I’m pooped. I’m going to head home and pass out.”

“I have a couple of guest rooms if you want to crash here,” Logan offered. “No reason to bike home.”

Hannah stood up. “That sounds amazing. Where are the guest rooms?”

“Any room on the first floor,” Logan replied.

Dylan tried to stifle a yawn unsuccessfully. “I think I’m going to crash too. Let’s go fight over who gets what room, Hannah.” She laughed and they headed up the steps of the back patio. The dogs followed them inside, and Logan and I were left alone.

“So what do you think?” Logan asked, looking up at the house.

“It’s gorgeous,” I said sincerely. “Really beautiful. Do you plan on staying here, or is this a summer home?”

“I’ve been trying to prove to you that I’m in it for the long haul,” Logan said, pulling my chair around so we were knee-to-knee. “But you’ve got to give me something. I can’t just keep beating my head against a wall. I’m starting to think you’re not even interested.” The side of his mouth curved in a smile.

“Logan, of course I’m interested,” I said, leaning forward. This was my chance to tell him, my perfect moment to declare my love. “Logan, I have to tell you-”

Logan leaned forward to kiss me again, distracting me. “You taste like beer and chocolate,” he whispered while nibbling my lower lip. I started getting wet, and I scooted forward in my seat.

  “Logan-” I groaned.

“You’re so sexy, Jamie, and it’s been so long,” he said, pulling me forward so I was straddling his lap.

“It’s been like two weeks,” I said.

“Yeah, like I said, it’s been so long,” Logan said with a lopsided grin.

I rolled my eyes, looking down at him. “Logan,” I started once more, but I was distracted by him rolling the zipper on my shorts down and slowly sliding his fingers into the waistline. I willed myself to stop grinding helplessly, and I pushed his hands away, gripping his face so his blue eyes were looking directly into my brown eyes. “I love you,” I said.

Logan’s eyes widened and he pulled my mouth down onto his. “Say it again, Jamie,” he whispered against my mouth.

I smiled and said, “I love you, Logan Mays.” He stood up with my legs wrapped around his waist and let out a whoop of victory. I laughed uncontrollably as he spun me around.

“She loves me!” he shouted to no one in particular. I shushed him and he set me down. “I don’t know if you could tell, Jamie, but I am crazy in love with you.”

“I picked up on your subtle cues,” I said. He smiled at me. I pulled my shirt off in one motion, which made him smile wider. He picked me up and carried me to a sand dune, where no one would be able to see us even if they tried.

Logan pulled his pants off at lightning speed, leaving him stark naked in the moonlight. I took my time soaking him in, soaking this moment in. He settled himself on top of me, kissing me wildly along my chest and neck. I arched my back, offering up my breasts to him. I was so turned on from weeks of foreplay, I nearly came the moment his mouth closed around my nipple. I quickly got rid of my shorts, raising my hips for him to enter me. He pushed into me hard, slamming himself to the hilt and making me see stars. I kept my hips up and he pumped quickly, rubbing my clit in circles. I came in minutes, with Logan not far behind me.

We laid together on the sand dune, looking up at the night sky filled with stars and listening to the waves crashing on the beach. The moon was shining brightly that night, reflecting off the ocean and bathing us in light. Logan pulled me into his side and kissed me.

“I love you, Jamie,” he said.

“I love you, too, Logan,” I said back.

Logan sighed happily. “I could listen to you say that all night long.”

I rolled onto my elbow with a sultry smile. “I’d rather do something else all night long,” I teased, running a fingertip over his chest.

“Hey, no one said we couldn’t do both,” Logan said. I laughed and he pulled me on top of him. His face turned serious. “Jamie, you’ve got to promise me that you’re not going to freak out on me every time I say something that makes you insecure. I’m human, and I’m flawed, but I’m truly dedicated to the cause of making you happy. I need you to be equally dedicated to my cause, otherwise this is a terribly one-sided thing and that’s not good for anyone.”

“I promise to try not to freak out every time som
ething overwhelms me,” I said to Logan, propping my chin on my hands and staring into his eyes. “As long as you promise to always talk me down when I’m spinning out, and make me stick to that promise.”

“Deal,” Logan said, kissing the top of my forehead.

We laid there the entire night, content in each other’s arms, alternately joking around and talking about our future and making love. We left the dune when the sun came up, and headed back to the house to brew coffee and make pancakes.

Dylan and Hannah were already in the kitchen sipping coffee when we got there. Logan grinned at Hannah, who looked at our clasped hands with a smile. “So you finally got your head out of your ass?”

I nodded and leaned my head against Logan’s arm. “Yeah, I guess. It did take some convincing. Two or three rounds of convincing.” Hannah screwed her face up and threw a roll at me. I laughed and knocked the roll out of the air, and the dogs eagerly pounced on it. We all stood in the kitchen, laughing while the dogs ran around us and barked happily.

Logan looked down at me. “So what’s next?”

I looked back up at him. “Anything we want,” I said, and pulled him down for a kiss. We held hands, interlocking our fingers, and I looked over at our friends and dogs. I was truly at peace. Finally.
