“Good. Me too.” I dropped my gaze, tucking in my shirt and trying to drum up the courage to pull out the ring and propose. I hadn’t expected to be this nervous. I’d pictured myself suave and debonair as I asked him to marry me. But instead I felt sweaty and anxious. I was tempted to put it off. But when I looked up and saw his face, I decided I didn’t want to wait. I wanted him to know exactly how committed I was to him.

“Should we go back inside?” he asked, running his fingers through his hair.

  “Wait just a sec.”

  He frowned. “Okay.”

I took a deep breath and dropped down on one knee, looking up at him.

He pulled his brows together. “What are you doing?”

My hands shook as I pulled the little velvet case from my inside pocket. My heart banged against my ribs and I could barely speak because my throat was tight. I popped open the box and the gold band gleamed in the moonlight.

“Brock, I love you with all my heart. I never thought I’d fall in love and I can’t believe I was afraid of this feeling. It’s the most amazing thing in the world to love someone the way I do you. I would die for you. I would do anything for you.”

His expression changed as his eyes widened and his lips parted. “What the heck?” he whispered.

“Brock, I have to ask you something.”

He bit his lip as a single tear streaked down his cheek. “Is this really happening?”

  I nodded. “It is.”

  He swallowed hard.

“Brock Pilot, will you marry me?” My voice broke on the last word and my eyes stung with tears.

“Of course I will.” He grabbed me and helped haul me to my feet. He kissed me, hugging me so tight it was hard to breathe. “I can’t believe this. Yes. Yes. Yes.”

“Really?” I laughed and pulled back, wiping tears from my eyes. I smiled at him with my heart aching with joy. “God, I was so nervous to ask you.”

  “Why?”

“I don’t know. I was terrified you might say no.” I shivered.

  “But I said yes.”

I kissed him softly and then said. “Yeah. You did, didn’t you?”

  “Yep.”

Sighing, I cupped his cheek. “You sure? There’s no going back. You marry me and you’re mine forever.”

He grinned. “Trevor Campbell, you big dummy. I’m already yours.”
