A Christmas Wish Page 3

by Jodi Olson

She was bringing in the last box of ornaments when she noticed Spencer helping Tony straighten the tree. It excited her to see him wanting to help. I wish I could tell him how much I love him right at this moment, but I’m afraid of his reaction. She kept silent.

Once the lights were on, Maggie and Karen began hanging the different colored balls on the tree. Just as she went to take out another ball, she felt Spencer’s fingers touch hers.

“Maggie I’ll never forget this week. You’ve made a new man out of me. I’m enjoying Christmas again and it’s all because of you. Thank you.”

She wanted to kiss him, but knew they had an audience. Seeing Spencer like this was the best gift she could ever wish for.

When the tree was decorated, they settled down for the evening meal. Soon after, Tony and Karen went to bed claiming they both were exhausted after all the decorating.

Once alone she asked Spencer about his day. “Why’d you go into town today? I know how much you hate the crowds at the mall.”

“I went Christmas shopping. Is that a crime?”

She could see the look on his face and felt she’d better not push him any further. She didn’t want him going back to being Mr. Grinch.

“I think it’s wonderful that you’re starting to like Christmas again.” She kissed him and when he kissed her back, she thought her heart couldn’t pound any faster. “Let’s go get those packages from the barn. I don’t want Karen going up there now that she’s pregnant. Then I think I’m going to turn in for the night.”

“I was just thinking the same thing. Taking you to bed is a great idea.”

Two hours later Maggie and Spencer, bits of straw still in their hair, returned to the house with the packages. Spencer knelt to place the packages under the tree; I hope she didn’t spot the one that’s for her. The other remained hidden in his bedroom-until just the right moment. I’m so looking forward to tomorrow and the new direction my life has taken this week. At least I hope it’s for the better.

  Five

It was Christmas and Maggie woke with the biggest smile on her face. Watching Spencer still sleep made her ache with wanting him inside her again. I wonder how he’ll do today. He didn’t know it, but last night I caught him staring at the floor. I wonder if he was thinking about Lynne.

After breakfast dishes were done and the kitchen cleaned up, Karen announced it was time to open gifts. Maggie turned to see Spencer walking out the front door.

Maggie looked at Karen. “Why did he leave?”

“He’s coming back, Maggie. He said we should give him five minutes, and if he didn’t make it back we could go on without him.”

“Alright, I just hope he’s okay. This is a lot harder on him than I thought it would be.”

Karen twisted the dish towel in her hands. “Maggie, you really don’t get it, do you?”

“Get what? I understand Spencer doesn’t like Christmas. I just didn’t realize how hard it was for him.”

“No, Maggie, it’s not that. My brother is in love with you-has been for years. He’s just too stubborn to tell you.”

“I love Spencer too, Karen. I really do. I think I’ve been in love with him since I was a kid. That’s why I never settled down. No one has ever come close to Spencer in my eyes.”

The front door creaked open, and they looked to see who it was. Had Karen invited someone else, or was it Spencer coming back?

  “Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas!”

Maggie couldn’t believe it. Spencer was dressed up as Santa Claus. Her eyes misted over and she struggled not to cry. She ran to him, threw her arms around his neck and hugged him. He grinned like a fool. In this single moment, she loved him even more, if that was possible.

When Maggie’s gift was the only one left under the tree, Spencer handed it to her. “Hope you like it, Maggie.”

She was shaking as she removed the lovely wrapping paper. Inside was a beautiful locket in the shape of a gold heart. It was engraved on the back: ‘You are my heart, love Spencer.’

“It’s beautiful Spencer, thank you.” She clutched the locket so tightly her knuckles turned white. Tears rolled down her cheeks.

“You’re welcome sweetheart. Now you know what I was doing yesterday in town. How did you like the suit?”

“I loved the suit, but I’d love it even better if you took it off.” As soon as she said it she blushed. Maggie watched his smile change to one of anticipation and longing.

“I’m not doing a sexy Santa strip tease in front of my sister. But I think I will go change.”

When Spencer returned from the bedroom he had on jeans and a pull over sweater. Maggie nearly swooned, he looked so handsome. The way he looked at her made her panties wet and her nipples hard. She really wanted him to make love to her.

“Maggie, put on your coat and come outside with me.”

“Spencer, it’s too cold out and the snow is really coming down.”

“Come on Maggie, help me build a snowman.”

She brightened, “Oh all right. I guess I could do that. I haven’t made a snowman since I was a kid.”

By the time Maggie got outside Spencer had already finished most of the snowman.

Spencer watched Maggie walked toward him, her black boots tracking every step toward him in the pristine white snow. His heart skipped a beat every time she walked into a room and even bundled up in her coat and hat, her sexy body had his heart doing back flips.

He wasn’t paying any attention to the snowball in her hand until it hit his chest. “Oh, you’re gonna pay for that one, honey.”

“You’ll have to catch me first.”

He watched her run away, her heels kicking up a trail of snow behind her. Spencer picked up a handful of snow and made it into a ball. He threw it at her, hitting her in the back.

Hearing her laugh was music to his ears. Before he had another snowball ready, she was standing in front of him pressing her body to his as she kissed him. He dropped the snowball and put his arms around her pulling her closer. He felt like a starving man as he ravished her mouth, unable to get enough.

His hands traveled up inside her sweater until he reached her breasts. His thumbs touched her nipples through the bra. Just as he was about to open the front clasp she smashed cold snow up to his belly button forcing it down his pants. The war was on.

“You’re going to get it now!” As he bent over to get more snow he saw her reach for him out of the corner of his eye. Spencer grabbed hold, toppling them both over into the snow. He straddled her hips holding her down. With one hand he held her hands above her head and with the other he pushed her shirt up. He smiled as he grabbed a handful of snow and placed it in her bra. Her nipples became hard with the sensation; grinning, he leaned forward forcing his tongue into her mouth.

As he sat back he laughed. “Now I’ve got you where I want you, Maggie. You’re pinned under me exactly where you should be. The only thing wrong with this picture is that you’re not naked and I’m not inside that sweet pussy of yours.”

“That’s exactly where I want you too. Can’t we go inside? I’m soaked and it’s freezing.”

“Maggie… I wanted to ask you something.”

She shivered, whether it was from the cold, or his impending question she didn’t know. “What?”

He hesitated, thinking maybe it might be the wrong time. “It can wait, let’s get you inside. I don’t want you catching a cold, or something worse.” Spencer helped Maggie up from the cold, snowy ground and they raced to the house.

When they got inside, they stood next to the fireplace, brushing off the snow and trying to warm up. He was working up the nerve to ask her to marry him, but he needed more time. “Maggie, you take a hot shower. Karen will kick my ass if you get sick because of me. When you get back we can talk.”

“Okay, I’ll just be a few minutes. Don’t miss me too much,” she said playfully.

Watching her walk away, his eyes traveled to her ass again. He leaned his head back and close
d his eyes, the vision of the way the damp jeans clung to her ass burned into his mind. After only twenty minutes, she returned wearing another pair of tight jeans and a beautiful lavender sweater that accented every curve.

Next year he would buy her a dozen sweaters, whether she needed them or not, just to watch her wear them.

“Maggie, come sit by the fire with me.” He handed her a glass, “I’ve poured a glass of wine for you. If you want something else I’d be happy to get that too.”

“Wine is fine. The fire is nice and cozy don’t you think?” She closed her eyes momentarily, warmed by the fire and the wine.

“Yes, it is.” Spencer shifted nervously, now or never. “I want to tell you something, but I’m not real good at this type of stuff. So please forgive me if I don’t do this right.”

“What is it, Spencer? You’re starting to worry me. Are you okay?”

“Yea, I’m okay, better than okay in fact,” he said, giving her one of his melting grins.

He placed his wine glass on the table and took her hand in his. “Maggie I wanted to say that I love you. I think I’ve loved you forever. After Lynne died, I blamed myself because I didn’t love her enough. I wasn’t there for her when she needed me. If I’d been honest with her, and myself, I would have admitted that it was you I loved.” He paused and shook his head, “It’s taken me too long to figure it out.”

“Spencer, I love you too. I always have. I knew it when you ran off that boy who was hurting me, I knew it then.”

He dropped to one knee, shuffled in front of her, reached in his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. “Maggie, will you marry me and keep me in line when I need it?” He saw her eyes misting with unshed tears, “I hope those are happy tears I see, sweetheart.”

“Yes, Spencer they are, and yes, I’d like nothing more than to be your wife.” He took the ring from the box and placed it on her finger.

Spencer struggled to regain his balance as he stood and took her into his arms. “You just made me the happiest man in the world. I love you so much.” He held her closer, letting her soft curves mold into the contours of his hard body. “Love me, Maggie. Never let me go.”

“I’ll never let you go. This is the best Christmas – ever. You gave me my Christmas wish.”
