Now put your design on the T-shirt! Decide which stamp shape and color you’ll use first. Using a paintbrush, paint a layer of fabric paint onto the stamp. Carefully press the stamp down on the fabric. Don’t press too hard, and don’t wiggle the stamp back and forth. Just as carefully, lift the stamp. When done, wash the stamp and try another color!
Repeat the previous step as many times as necessary until your design is completed. You can also use a paintbrush to add your own touches freehand (like brown dots in the middle of your daisies, or purple stripes on your butterflies’ wings; always clean the brush before you change colors).
With your T-shirt lying flat, let your design dry completely, following the instructions on the fabric paint packaging.
One Last Thing: When you (or your parents) wash your T-shirt for the first time, it’s best to turn it inside out and wash it in cold water. It’s also best to dry your T-shirt on the lowest setting, or just let it hang dry.
For even more fun, invite your friends to bring a plain T-shirt to your next party—and design T-shirts together! Nancy, George, and Bess love to do this!
