“If they are like us, I wonder what their power is? Would they be able to manipulate fire and ice like us? What if you decide you like her better than me?” she rambles. “Even from a distance, I can see she is gorgeous.”
“Not a chance, babe. You’re my girlfriend, and you’re stuck with me,” I assure.
“When did this girlfriend thing happen? I don’t remember you asking,” she teases.
“Probably when he stuck his meat stick inside your—”
“Loren!” Genesis squeals, embarrassed.
“Well, she isn’t lying.” I chuckle.
“You two are insufferable.”
“But you love me.” A lump forms in my throat. Admitting my emotions is something that I’ll have to get more comfortable with. I’m allowing myself to be vulnerable with her. Yes, we’ve talked about love as a result of our entanglement, but this all feels so surreal. This is what love feels like and I’m all in.
She stops mid-stride. “I do. I do love you, Elysian.”
Her nearly clear eyes pierce mine, and I feel my heart slam against my chest. This beautiful girl just admitted that she loves me. I square my shoulders and pull her to me once again. Everything and everyone fade into the background.
“I love you, Genesis Aldaine. Will you be my girlfriend?”
“Yes. I can’t think of a better person I’d rather be stuck with. I’m yours.”
I tip her chin back and lick the seam of her lips. She opens for me, and I passionately swirl her tongue with mine. I forget that we’re standing in the middle of the campus until Loren clears her throat. I’m about to give her shit for the interruption since she’s the one who’s been pushing us together from the start, but then I see them. The duo from the assembly. The girl stares off into the distance, avoiding eye contact. The guy sizes me up but doesn’t speak. They’re both with Mr. Blakely.
“Genesis and Elysian, I need you to come with us,” he informs, ominously.
“What’s this about? “Genesis asks. “Are they the same as us?”
“We’re standing right here,” the guy deadpans. “And we have names.”
“Genesis. Elysian. This is Imogen and Rhys.” Neither of us shakes hands or exchanges pleasantries. The two don’t give off the friendliest of vibes.
“Watch how you speak to my girl, Rhys,” I address.
“Cut the pissing contest,” Mr. Blakely warns. “We need to get to my office. Now. There is much to discuss.”
His nostrils flare, and I know that he means business. I fall in step with him and the two newbies with attitudes. I give Genesis’s hand a soft squeeze. I don’t know who these two are, or if they’re, in fact, half gods, but it doesn’t matter. I have the girl who just professed her love to me minutes ago. Anything else Mr. Blakely is waiting to throw at us is small potatoes. What’s the worst that he can tell us?
