One Chance (Part One) Page 20

by T. Renee Fike

“Sure is,” I say as I look around to see if Liam’s here. I don’t see him, though I’m not surprised.

We grab some drinks and before long Quinn and Kenzie are pulling me onto the makeshift dance floor to dance. We shake our booties and have a blast before deciding to get another drink.

“Hey, Liam’s here,” Kenzie whispers into my ear. Brody looks at me, but doesn’t say anything.

“Okay,” I state as I take a drink of my beer. Usually he comes over to me, so we will see if tonight is any different.

About forty minutes later he does come over, “Hey Hails, can I talk to you?” he says looking anything but happy.

  “Sure, what’s up?”

“Alone,” he says as he grabs my hand and leads me to one of the bedrooms down the hall.

“What’s going on?” I ask as he shuts the door.

“I don’t know how to say this,” he says running his hands through his sexy blonde locks.

“Just tell me,” I say feeling suddenly nervous.

  “We can’t sleep together anymore.”

  “What? Why not?”

  “I met a girl.”

“Oh,” I say feeling like he just ripped my heart out, “That was the plan all along right,” I say trying to hold it together.

“Yeah it was, I just wanted you to hear it from me and not anyone else.”

  “Who is it?”

  “Her name’s Bree.”

“Well good for you. I’m happy for you Liam,” I say with the straightest face I can. “I guess I better get back out there then,” I say as open the door. Liam doesn’t follow me out and I’m not quite sure why he doesn’t, but I don’t bother to ask.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” Kenzie asks immediately.

“Nothing, I’m fine, just need a shot.”

“Let’s go,” Quinn says immediately. We head into the kitchen and pour tequila into the plastic shot glasses. We down three shots before deciding to dance again. “What happened?” Quinn asks through a whisper.

“He found someone he wants to date.”

“No fucking way,” she says louder than intended.

“Yep. It is what it is. I’m not going to think about it right now.”

“Okay,” she says as a new beat starts up. We dance song after song. I can feel the alcohol coursing through my body and I’m thankful for the escape. After a few more songs, I’m in need of a drink so we head back to grab another one.

“Are you alright Hails?” Brody asks.

  “I’m fine, why?”

“You just seem like something’s wrong.”

“Nope, all good here,” I say as I tip my drink towards him. “Probably going to head home after this one though.”

“Okay, we’re going to be leaving soon too,” he says.

“Hey woman, Mark and I are heading out,” Quinn says happily.

“Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow. Have a good night,” I say with a smile.

“Are you going to be alright? I can come home tonight,” she says now all serious.

“I’ll be fine. Enjoy your night.”

“I’ll be home in the morning,” she says before heading towards the exit with Mark.

As I drink my beer, Kenzie and Brody let me know they are leaving too. I say goodbye to them and then down the rest of my beer.

“Where’s Brody?” Liam asks surprising me.

  “He and Kenzie left.”

  “Oh, where’s Quinn?”

“She left too, which is what I’m actually about to do. Have a good night Liam,” I say as I turn to head to the door.

“Wait,” he says stopping me, “Are you walking home by yourself?” he asks, concern written all over his face.

“Yeah, it’s not far, I’ll be fine.”

“No, I’ll walk you home,” he says quickly.

“Its fine Liam, it’s not far.”

“I don’t care, you shouldn’t walk by yourself. Let’s go,” he says as he leads us to the exit.

“You should probably stay. You don’t want to cause any issues with Bree.”

“Its fine, I’m not worried about it,” he says like it’s no big deal.

“You should be,” I say slightly intoxicated.

“Why?” he asks with a curious look.

“You don’t need me messing anything up for you. Look, just go back in and enjoy yourself.”

  “What’s going on Hails?”

“Nothing, I’m slightly drunk and need to go home,” I say as I head towards home.

“Okay then,” he says as he walks beside me.

“Liam, I told you to go away,” I say frustrated.

“I’m walking you home,” he argues.

  “You can’t.”

“I’m pretty sure I can,” he says as we continue walking.

“No, because then I’m gonna ask you to come in and you won’t and I don’t feel like being let down right now.”

“Then I’ll come in,” he says simply enough.

I don’t say anything; I continue to walk with Liam right beside me, neither of us saying a word the rest of the way. I walk up to my door and head inside with Liam right behind me. Heading to my room, I expect him to say something, but he doesn’t.

“So I was thinking,” I say as quickly turn to face him, “I think we should have sex one more time.”

“Why’s that?” he asks with a sexy smirk.

  “Like farewell sex.”

“Farewell sex?” he asks with a raised eyebrow.

“Yeah, you know, because it won’t happen again.”

“You want to have farewell sex?” he asks confused.

  “Yes, I think we should.”

“You’re crazy, you know that right,” he says laughing as he starts stalking towards me. I start backing up towards the bed in excitement and nervousness.

  “It’s a good plan though.”

“It is a good plan,” he says as he reaches me, “One more time,” he says before he lowers his lips to mine. It goes from hot to scorching in seconds, I can’t help but try to rip his clothes from his body, causing him to laugh, “You know we have all night,” he says as he lifts my sweater over my head.

“Yeah, sorry,” I say, trying to slow down. I unhook his jeans allowing them to fall down slowly to the floor. Liam kicks his shoes and jeans off, before moving to unhook my belt. It takes him seconds to have me standing completely naked in front of my bed.

“You are so fucking beautiful,” he says as we move onto the bed.

“Kiss me,” I plead, wanting more. I pull his head towards mine to meet my lips. I open my mouth and Liam plunges into my mouth tasting me. He pushes two fingers inside of me making me moan loudly. He starts pumping his fingers in and out of me, moving faster and faster, bringing me closer to the edge.

Minutes later he has me calling out in ecstasy, as I’m coming down from my high, he rubs his erection at my entrance before thrusting into me, causing to me cry out.

“Oh God, don’t stop, please don’t stop,” I beg, as he thrusts harder and harder into my aching core. “Yes, Yes, YES,” I scream as he brings me to ecstasy once again. He continues plunging into me until he’s grunting and moaning in bliss following me.

“Damn, you’re incredible,” he says as he pulls out of me and falls beside me on the bed.

  “So good,” I mumble softly.

“Get some sleep,” he quips as he tucks me into his side.

“Sleep sounds good,” I say as I snuggle closer, throwing my leg and arm over Liam’s body.

“Sweet dreams pretty girl,” he says as he kisses the top of my head.

“I love you,” I mumble before passing out.

I wake up the next morning alone in my bed. I’m not sure what time Liam left. I can’t help but wonder what happened last night. How did things go from being great between us to him wanting to date someone else?

As I sit and think about last night, it dawns on me, “Son of a bitch.”

  “What’s wrong?” Quinn a
sks as she walks through the door.

  “Nothing,” I say quickly.

“Nice try, what happened?” she says with a stern look.

“I slept with Liam last night as farewell sex.”

“Farewell sex?” she says with a confused look.

  “Yes.”

  “Okay, so what about it?”

“Afterward when we were falling asleep, I think I said I love you.”

“You think or you did?” she asks with a surprised look.

“I’m not sure, but I think I did. Then I wake up this morning and he’s already gone.”

  “Damn,” she says laughing.

  “What’s so funny?”

“Well, at least he knows then.”

“He didn’t need to know that though,” I say as I flop back on my bed wishing I could rewind the past eight hours.

“Well now that you probably said it, let’s see what happens.”

“I’m going to act like I never said it.”

“I figured as much. Did he say anything after you said it?”

  “I don’t think so, I passed out.”

“Aww, so he could have pledged his undying love to you and you missed it,” she says jokingly.

“I doubt that, if he did, he wouldn’t have left and he wouldn’t be trying to date someone. God, I’m such an idiot.”

“I wouldn’t worry about it. If it matters, you will know soon enough.”

  “You’re right.”

The day is spent finishing up some last minute homework before Kenzie and Brody come over to hang out before the game.

“Are you sure you’re going to be warm enough in that?” I ask Kenzie for the third time. She doesn’t have near enough layers on for how cold it is outside.

  “I’ll be fine,” she snaps.

“Hey, you guys almost ready?” Quinn asks.

  “Yep.”

“Have you heard from Liam?” Quinn asks with a look.

  “No why?”

  “Just curious.”

“Why, what’s going on?” Brody asks kindly.

“Nothing, everything’s good,” I state, though I have no idea.

“Okay good. Well then let’s go,” Quinn says excitedly.

We head to the game with our crew and get situated for a long night of football. The game ends up going into overtime and we lose by a field goal. It sucks; Liam definitely didn’t play as well as he normally does.

“I can’t believe we freaking lost,” Quinn complains.

“Yeah, Liam’s head was not in the game,” Kenzie states.

“He can’t do it all on his own,” Brody argues.

“No, you’re right, but you could tell something was off,” Rebecca says, “He definitely wasn’t playing like he usually does.”

“He just had a bad game, it happens. Where do you guys want to go to tonight?” I ask trying to change the subject.

“Oh, let’s go to Alpha Chi,” Quinn says excitedly.

“Yes, that’s a great idea,” Rebecca cheers.

“Okay then, Alpha Chi it is,” I say happily. We head back to the house to change before heading to the party.

The place is packed as we enter the house. Quinn sees Mark and heads in his direction, while Rebecca rushes off to meet Rob. Kenzie, Brody, and I head towards the drinks. After about an hour, the house is only getting busier. There’s hardly any room to move in.

“Hey babe, when’s Liam coming?” Kenz asks Brody.

“Not sure, he said he’d be here though.”

“Good, because we aren’t going to have time to see him tomorrow before we leave,” Kenz says happily.

  “I know babe.”

“What time are you guys’ planning on leaving tomorrow?” I ask.

  “Around 8 or 9 a.m.,” Brody says.

“Okay,” I say before taking another sip of my beer.

About twenty minutes later, Liam walks in with a few of his teammates. He looks pissed, but that’s probably because they lost.

“I’ll be right back,” Brody says before heading off towards Liam.

“How are you holding up?” Kenz asks.

“I’m good,” I say, and then show a fake smile.

“You do realize I know you better than anyone right,” she says intently.

  “Yeah.”

“Then don’t lie to me. I know how you feel about him, so tell me the truth, how are you really holding up?”

“I’m okay. It sucks, but I knew it was going to happen sooner or later.”

“How did you know that?” she asks looking confused.

“Because, it’s not like Liam and I would ever date.”

“Why not?” she asks looking lost.

“Seriously Kenz, look at the man. He could have any woman he wants; he isn’t going to settle for me.”

“What?” she shrieks, “There’s nothing wrong with you. He would be lucky to have you.”

“I’m just not that super model material.”

  “You’re better.”

“You have to say that, we’re twins,” I say with a smile.

“And I’m hot, which means you’re hot too,” she says with a stern look.

“Yes, we are two hot bitches,” I say as I throw my arm around my sister’s shoulder and laugh.

“Damn straight we are,” she says as we clink drinks before taking a drink.

“What’s so funny?” Liam asks from behind us. We turn to see him, Brody, and Ryan one of his teammates.

“Just girl stuff,” Kenzie says hastily, “What happened tonight?”

“Had an off night I guess,” he says softly.

“So kick ass in the next game,” I quip.

He gives me a half smile, “I plan to.”

“I was thinking, we should leave here soon, so we can all hang out before we leave tomorrow morning,” Kenzie says.

“You do realize it’s already midnight?” I ask.

“Yeah, that’s why we can go hang out, talk, bullshit like we always do before calling it a night,” she says like it’s the most brilliant idea in the world.

“Sure,” I say ready to leave the party.

“Umm…,” Liam starts to stutter, “Do you care if I bring someone along?” he asks, looking intently at me.

“No, bring whoever you want,” Brody states.

“Okay, we can go to my house then,” Liam says, “I’ll just go get her and we can be on our way,” he says before walking away.

“Who’s he getting?” Kenzie asks confused.

“Probably Bree,” I mumble. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea after all.

  “Who’s Bree?” she asks confused.

“The girl he likes,” I say. Brody gives me a confused look, but doesn’t say anything.

Just then Liam walks towards us with a girl beside him. She’s tall, I’d say 5’10”, with long blonde hair, blue eyes, but not nearly as blue as Liam’s, and she’s super model thin. She’s the girl you would expect on his arm. She’s beautiful and I hate her.

“Hey guys this is Bree,” he says introducing us to her. We all say hi and then turn to leave. We make the walk back to Liam’s house and all go inside to hang out. All consists of me, Kenzie, Brody, Liam, and Bree.

“You guys want anything to drink?” Liam asks kindly.

“Yeah, I’ll take a beer,” Kenzie says and Brody agrees.

“I’ll just take water,” I state.

“Baby, do you have any more of that wine I like? Bree asks sounding drunk already.

“I think so,” he says before walking to the kitchen.

He comes back with our drinks before walking back out to get the rest of them. We sit down and no one really says anything at first.

“How do you all know each other?” Bree slurs.

“Oh shit, sorry,” Liam says, “Brody’s my brother, that’s Kenzie and Haley. We all grew up together,” he says.

“So you can tell me all Liam’s dirty secrets right?” she asks animatedly.

  “There ar
e no secrets to tell,” Liam says quickly.

“Please, I bet there is,” she giggles.

“No, he’s pretty boring,” Brody says with a straight face.

  “I’m not boring,” he argues.

“Yeah, you kind of are,” Kenzie says jokingly.

“How am I boring?” he asks harshly.

“You don’t have fun or joke around anymore, you’re boring,” Brody says again with a straight face.

“What, that’s bullshit. I go out, I have fun, I am fun,” he yells, causing all of us to laugh, “You all are a bunch of assholes,” he says as he storms out of the room pissed off.

“Aww, see you can’t even take a joke, you big baby,” Brody yells.

“Screw you man,” he says as he comes back with a bottle of liquor.

“Planning on getting drunk?” Kenzie asks eyeing the bottle.

“Well, I left the party right after getting there, so yeah I think I deserve a drink,” he says as he takes a swig from the bottle.

“Baby don’t be upset,” Bree coos as she moves closer to him.

“I’m not,” he says as he takes another swig.

“Are you coming home for Christmas?” Kenzie asks changing the topic.

“I’m not sure yet,” Liam says.

“Why not? You don’t have a game,” Brody says bitterly.

“Baby, I want you to come home with me,” Bree says as she falls into Liam.

“What?” Liam, Brody, and Kenzie yell in unison.

“I want him to meet my family,” Bree says sounding angry.

“I don’t know what I’m doing yet,” he says again.

“Baby, I’m ready to go to bed,” Bree slurs.

“I’m hanging out, you can go to sleep though,” Liam says looking annoyed.

“But I want you to come with me,” she whines.

“We leave tomorrow morning, we would like to hang out with him,” Kenzie says bitterly.

“But baby,” she starts to say.

“Go ahead and go to bed. I’m going to hang out for a while,” Liam states.

“Ugh, fine,” she says as she gets up and heads to Liam’s room.

  “Seriously dude?” Brody says.

  “What?” Liam asks playing dumb.

  “She’s a bitch,” Kenz says.

  “She’s just drunk,” he defends.

“And stupid,” Kenz says not holding back.

“Do not bring her home with you, if you come,” Brody states.
