I take a seat on the couch beside where Liam will sit and wait for him to come back. Kenzie is on the right side of me. My sexy man walks back towards me looking so hot in his suit and tie. He has a dark gray suit on with a blue tie that matches his eyes perfectly.
“Hey babe,” he says as he sits beside me, giving me a quick kiss, “Charlie thinks I may go sooner than the second round, which is why he wanted us out here,” he says with a sexy smirk.
“That’s great,” I say as we hold hands, hiding the diamond that’s now on my finger.
What we didn’t expect is when Liam’s name is called as the third overall pick in the first round. The amount of cheers cannot even describe this moment. Liam is selected by the Vikings. He spends the next twenty minutes talking to his agent, while the rest of us laugh and enjoy the happy news.
“Oh my God, what is that on your hand?” Kenzie says barely above a whisper as she grabs my hand to check out my ring.
“Do you like it?” I say excitedly.
“He proposed? When? Where?” she asks all at once, as she stares at my ring.
“Right before the draft started in the bedroom.”
“Seriously? Wow,” she says as she hugs me tightly.
“Just don’t say anything yet. He deserves this time to enjoy being drafted,” I whisper.
“I won’t say a word, but people are going to notice your finger.”
“I’ll figure it out,” I say as I look at Liam who is now getting hugs and congratulations from his family.
“We’re pretty lucky aren’t we?” Kenzie asks.
“We sure are,” I say as I watch Brody congratulate Liam, looking truly happy for him. Five minutes later my fiancé is sauntering towards me.
“Hey sexy lady,” he says before planting a kiss on me.
“Congratulations baby,” I say as I throw my arms around his neck, wanting him closer.
“Definitely unexpected, but I’ll take it,” he says on a laugh.
“Congratulations on being drafted and engaged,” Kenzie whispers.
“Thank you. It’s a pretty awesome day,” he says with the biggest smile ever. “I guess we should tell everyone right?” he asks as he looks at me.
“No. Today is your day to enjoy being drafted,” I state.
“Babe this is the best day, I’d like to tell our families while they are all here,” he says looking all sexy.
“Are you sure?”
“I wouldn’t have asked you if I wasn’t,” he says before giving me a sweet kiss. “Let’s go.” “Hey everyone, we have some news we would like to share,” he says as everyone in the room stops and stares, “Haley and I are engaged,” he says joyfully.
“Oh my gosh, that’s wonderful,” Mom coos as she rushes up to hug me.
“Congratulations,” Denise says as she runs over behind Mom to us.
We explain the engagement, which was only before the draft occurred. We all sit down and laugh, enjoying the congratulations and encouragement from everyone around, everyone except Brody.
“Where’s Brody?” Liam asks.
“He said something about running somewhere,” Kenzie says with little information.
“Let me talk to him,” I say as I get up and go to grab my phone. I shut the bedroom door behind me as I call his number.
“What Haley?” he says, sounding irritated.
“Where are you?”
“I just needed some air.”
“So you’re outside?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay, I’ll be right there,” I say before disconnecting the call. I grab my coat and head down the stairs; everyone is in their own conversation that they don’t even notice me slip out the side door.
“Go back inside,” he snickers.
“No, we need to talk.”
“How long have you been engaged Hails?” he asks with a crack in his voice.
“He proposed right before the draft started.”
“So today then?”
“Yes, today.”
“You can’t marry him.”
“Why not?”
“He’s going to let you down. He always has and always will.”
“That’s not true,” I argue.
“Yes it is. I knew you liked him years ago, but he was never nice to you Hails. He treated you like crap, even when we all played games together; he purposely set out to hurt you. Do not remember that?”
“We were kids Brody.”
“So the time he broke your arm when we were playing football, or the time when he made you eat worms, or how about more recently at college how he had people haze you. You’re willing to look past all the shit he’s done to you and be with him?”
“Yes I am, because I love him. Brody you and I were best friends growing up, you started dating Kenzie and you’ve been with her ever since. If you don’t want to be with her any longer then don’t string her along, she doesn’t deserve that.”
“I love her.”
“Then what is the problem?”
“I love you too.”
“There are different types of love Brody. I love you, but it’s not the same way that I love Liam. I’m in love with him, I want to marry him and spend the rest of my life with him. I love you and would do anything for you.”
“You would?” he asks curiously.
“Yes, I would.”
“Then don’t marry him,” he says as he stares at me intently.
“Why not?”
“He’s my brother and I want him to be happy, but I don’t want him to be with you.”
“So who am I supposed to be with then?”
“Me.”
“You? That’s not possible and you know it.”
“I love you Hails, I always have.”
“Then why have you been with Kenz for so long? Why would you do that to her?” I argue.
“I love her, but I never thought I had a chance with you.”
“You never asked. There was a time when I would have said yes, but things change Brody. I love your brother and my sister loves you. You can’t do this to her.”
“Give us one chance before you get married,” he says catching me off guard.
“No. Do you even hear yourself right now? Brody you are with Kenzie, she loves you, and she would do anything for you. How could you say this to me right now?”
“What’s going on?” Kenzie asks looking pissed.
“Yeah, that’s what I would like to know too,” Liam says looking furious.
“It’s not what you think,” I say hoping to calm Liam down.
“That’s good, because from what I could see, it looked like my fucking brother was hitting on my fiancé. Which is crazy considering he’s dating your twin sister,” he says in a heated tone.
“That’s exactly what I was doing,” Brody says not holding back.
“What? Why?” Kenzie shrieks.
“I’m trying to stop her from making a terrible mistake,” Brody states.
“From marrying me?” Liam roars.
“Yes, from marrying you. She deserves better than what you’ll be able to give to her. Yeah you’ll have money, but it’s not the same, she needs more, she deserves more,” Brody shouts.
“Do you fucking hear yourself? I think I’m pretty sure I know what Haley wants and needs. What she doesn’t need is you out here ruining a perfectly good night because you’re fucking jealous,” Liam shouts into Brody’s face.
“Why have you been with me for so long?” Kenzie asks angrily.
“Oh please, don’t act like your innocent in all of this. You knew way back when that he had a thing for Haley, but you couldn’t let that happen, so you asked him out, he surprisingly said yes. You wanted him because he wanted her. I’m surprised you two have made it last for so long,” Liam says calling them both out.
“Wait what?” I ask confused.
“There’s a plan Haley, they always had a plan,” Liam says sounding more pissed off.
“What plan? What are you t
alking about?”
“Kenzie isn’t innocent. They may love each other in a sick twisted way, but I know he’s been trying to talk to you, she’s been doing the same thing to me.”
“What?” I yell, not believing what I’m hearing.
“Please, don’t act all innocent. You knew I liked Liam way back when, we both did. I told you he would never date you that he’d pick me. I just couldn’t believe it when you said you guys were sleeping together at college. I figured if he’s willing to sleep with you, then I’m good to go. I never thought you would be so in love with him though,” Kenzie says bitterly.
“So you’ve been trying to sleep with him?”
“For the past year, yes she has,” Liam answers.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” I ask, feeling hurt and betrayed by everyone.
“There was no point in causing issues between you guys.”
“Did you sleep with her?” I ask as I take a step back.
“No I didn’t,” Liam says as he takes a step towards me.
“So let me get this right, Kenzie, you wanted Brody because you were jealous of how close he and I were when we were kids; so you asked him out, during the time I actually had a small crush on him, but you two started dating. But in the meantime, when I start sleeping with Liam, you decide you want him then too? Which is also the time when Brody realizes he still wants me? Do I have this right?”
“Something like that,” Kenzie says.
“I’ve always wanted you,” Brody states.
“This is so sick and twisted. What the hell is wrong with the two of you?” I yell, as I feel my eyes fill up with tears. “I trusted you both. You’re my fucking sister, how could you do that to me?”
“Because you had something I wanted,” she answers without an ounce of compassion.
“This isn’t a game, this is my life,” I yell as the first tear falls.
“Babe, let’s go,” Liam says as he holds his hand out for me.
“And you, how could you not tell me what she was doing?” I ask through tears to Liam.
“I’m sorry, I should have told you,” he says apologetically.
“Yes, you should have. What else aren’t you telling me?” I yell through the tears.
“Nothing, you know everything else.”
“Yeah right,” I say as I continue to back up towards the street.
“Hails, let’s go inside where we can talk in private,” Liam states.
“No, I want away from all of you right now. Leave me alone,” I yell as I run across the street to my house. I run inside knowing one or all of them are going to be following me in, I grab the car keys and head out the garage door, needing to get away from them all.
“Baby, talk to me please,” Liam pleads as I jump into the car and lock the doors. “Haley let me in,” he yells. I wait for the garage door to finally open before hitting reverse and fly out of the garage. I don’t even bother waiting for the door to shut, as I race out of there. I need space. I need to figure shit out on my own.
The tears continue to fall as I make the drive to my secret spot at the beach. It’s April, so the weather isn’t too bad. I park, grab a blanket out of the trunk and head towards the beach. After the tears finally subside, I try to figure out how the best day of my life just turned into the worst.
How does Kenzie, my twin sister, do that to me? She wanted to date Brody because he liked me, but why? Why did he say yes? Why did they stay together for so many years? Why didn’t Liam tell me about Kenzie trying to sleep with him for over a year? Why am I so stupid?
I didn’t bother to grab my phone, purse, anything, so all I have on me is what’s in the car and on me. A few hours to myself sounds good right now. I sit the blanket down and take my seat by the pier watching the waves crash one after another.
I end up sitting at the beach for a good four hours before deciding to head home. I have no idea what I’m going to do. I want to punch Kenzie, slap Liam, and kick Brody. Right now, I just want to not have to think about what they have done to my life. I need to talk to Quinn.
Pulling into the driveway, I notice all the lights are off in the house except for one, which means someone’s waiting up. I’m really not in the mood to have to tell my parents what happened, but I’ll deal with it I guess. Walking into the house, I never expect to see Liam sitting in the chair.
“What are you doing here?” I ask as I walk into the house. He rushes over to me and hugs me, “Damn it Hails, I was fucking worried.”
“I told you I needed space,” I say as I pull away from him. I’m happy, yet irritated with him.
“You took your space, you’ve been gone for hours. I think we need to talk,” he says all serious.
“You’re right, we do,” I say as I lead us into the living room.
“Baby, I’m so sorry for not telling you about Kenzie. At first I thought she was only joking, but when I realized she was serious, I just ignored her. I didn’t think about what it would do to you; I honestly tuned her out. Please do not let those two destroy what you and I have.”
“Is there anything else you aren’t telling me?”
“No, there’s not. What are you going to do about Brody and Kenzie?”
“Nothing. Those two deserve each other.”
“You’re right on that. Are we okay?” he asks softly.
“We’re okay, but if something like that happens again you better tell me,” I scold.
“Absolutely babe,” he says with a sexy smirk, “Can we go to bed now, I’m exhausted?”
“Yes, let’s go,” I say as I lead him towards my bedroom.
“Sex tomorrow, definitely tomorrow, I don’t care if it’s in the car, outside, hell anywhere I don’t care, but we are having sex tomorrow,” Liam says as he strips down to his boxer briefs.
“Sounds good to me,” I say as I change into a tank top and shorts before crawling in bed beside him, “I love you, Liam.”
“I love you too baby,” he says as he kisses the top of my head. I snuggle into his side and wrap my arm and leg on him as he wraps his arms around me. I could get used to this.
The next morning is anything, but normal. “Good morning babe,” Liam says as he stretches.
“Morning.”
“So what are your thoughts on Brody and Kenzie?”
“I’m mad, beyond pissed actually. How could she do that to me?” I ask, looking to Liam for answers.
“Babe, the only thing I can come up with is that she’s jealous of you.”
“Why? She was the outgoing one, the center of attention, not me.”
“I don’t know,” he states.
“I can’t go and act like everything’s fine, because it’s not.”
“You’re right it’s not. We need to head back to school though, so do you want to leave this morning and just ignore them, or talk to them first?”
“Ignoring them sounds good right now. Let’s get ready to go,” I say as I hop out of bed.
“Can you be ready in a half an hour?”
“Sure can. I’m going to jump in the shower now, wanna join?” I ask with a devious look.
“You naughty, naughty, girl,” Liam says as he saunters towards me, “Don’t start something you can’t finish,” he says as he leans down and meshes his lips with mine.
“I’m thinking a shower sounds really good right now. Are you sure you don’t want to join me?” I ask, as I push my shorts down slowly making my way towards my bathroom.
“You’re about to get it.”
“You can help make sure I’m clean everywhere,” I say as I pull the tank top over my head, leaving me in only my panties.
“Christ,” he shrieks, “We are going to get caught, you know that right?” Liam says as he picks up me and walks toward the bathroom.
“No, we won’t. Why would we?”
“Because sweetheart, you aren’t quiet.”
“And whose fault is that?” I ask with a serious look.
“That would be yours,” he
says laughing. He sets me down and reaches into the shower to turn on the water. I shed the last of my clothes, walking up behind him, pushing his boxer briefs down to the floor. “Did you lock the door?”
“Sure did,” I say as I rub my hands up and down his amazing chest. He pulls the door back for me to enter the shower first, with him following right behind. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Hails,” he says as he backs us up until we are directly under the sprayer. “Now I get to wash you,” he says with a sexy smirk.
“Wash away,” I say excitedly. He grabs the shampoo and lathers it into my hair before repeating the process with the conditioner. As he’s washing out my hair, I grab the loofah and soap to create a thick lather before deciding to wash him too.
It doesn’t take long for us to get soap everywhere, making sure to wash each other thoroughly. Before I know it, Liam hoists me up, so I wrap my legs around him quickly, feeling his erection right at my core.
“Shit” he curses.
“What’s wrong?”
“I didn’t bring a condom in here.”
“Just pull out,” I say like it’s the smartest idea in the world.
“You know that doesn’t always work, right?”
“Do you want to hop out and go grab a condom because I’m not,” I say as I grip tighter around his neck, not wanting him to go anywhere either.
“Fine, I’ll pull out,” he says as he lifts me, so he can position himself at my entrance before slowly sliding in.
“Oh God Yes!” I moan as I feel every blissful inch of him.
We start working where I’m able to use his shoulders for leverage to bounce up and down on him as he grips my hips tighter. “Kiss me woman,” he grits out before a loud moan consumes me. Liam’s able to muffle my sounds with his mouth and damn, I’m thankful for that. It doesn’t take long for Liam to push me over the edge with him following close behind.
“You did say you were going to fuck me today,” I say with a laugh.
“Yes I did,” he says as he leans in and kisses me again. Now, we can finish getting ready and leave,” he says as he places me back down onto the tub floor. We finish rinsing the few soapsuds still on us before we climb out and dry off.
