“He’s old,” Sophia grumbled. “Rigid. Set in his ways.”
“How old is he?” Zach asked, surprised to find himself wondering for the first time. “I’m thirty-one,” he said out of the blue. “How old are you?”
Sophia’s entire body tensed, the change in her extraordinary. She looked like an owl, blinking slowly, as she asked, “No one told you?”
“Told me what?”
“About shifter lifespans.”
“Lifespans? My lifespan is shortened?” he gasped.
Sophia opened her mouth in shock, sliding her hand into his, squeezing.
“No. Not quite,” she started.
“Then what?” he asked, bemused but still sated from sex, left in a hazy, cocky state.
“You know that whole ‘til death do us part’ bit in the wedding vows?” she asked, eyebrows up, clearly bracing to tell him something. “Well, that death thing comes a little later for us shifters…”
