Praise
“…beautifully written and shaped: a subtle substantial achievement.”
—Books in Canada
“Readers who enjoyed Women of Influence (1989), Bonnie Burnard’s first collection of stories, will, with her second, experience a jolt of familiar delight; in the powerful, quietly polished prose of Casino and Other Stories the old trademark tone—confident, a little wry—is honed to a fine-pointed edge.”
—Quill & Quire
“Like Munro and Svendsen, Burnard demonstrates the continued vitality of the realist tradition in Canadian literature.”
—Toronto Star
“Casino deserves to win prizes…These stories are resonantly detailed, with startling, even shocking twists…”
—Globe and Mail
