Jimmy was floored. It was an enormous expense, surpassed only by his friend’s generosity. “Angel . . . man . . . that was too kind. Really.” He gulped the emotion rising in his throat. “You got me with that one. Thanks, man. I’m gonna pay you back. Every penny.”
“Nonsense. It was a gift for your parents. Besides, I haven’t seen them in ages. And when was the last time your entire family was together?” Angel pointed to Jimmy’s brothers with a smile. “You can reimburse me for their airfare, though. They played on my sympathy nerve.”
Jimmy laughed. It was just like his brothers to infringe on a good time, and Angel never could say no to anyone. “Hey, Jason! Jake!” Jimmy called to his brothers. “When you guys stop chugging the free alcohol, how about sayin’ hello to your brother?” They both nodded and waved between shoveling food in their mouths and tossing back beer.
Audra slipped her hand in Jimmy’s. “Your parents look really happy to be here.”
They were laughing with Aunt Mary, who seemed thankful to have someone her own age to talk to. Jimmy scanned the room. He was surrounded by the people he loved most. It was a crazy few months, filled with dramatic highs and lows, uncertainties and setbacks. In the end, everything fell into place. Immortal Angel was at an all-time high. The woman he loved was at his side and would soon be his wife, and his son was in his arms. Life didn’t get much better than this . . . except if, maybe, there were a couple more little rockers running around to keep Mason company.
