Leech 01 Caleo Page 31

“Thanks, Stinky,” Jack said, beaming up at the two of them. Even though his face hurt he just couldn’t resist.

He pulled Caleo’s Smear stick off the top and spun it in his hands, biting his lip to hold back a stream of emotions that threatened to flood out again. His words echoed through his head, I promise you, Caleo, they will all pay. Every last one of them will pay.

The sound of Mickey’s voice pulled Jack out of his own thoughts. “My name is Mickey, not Stinky. Please stop calling me Stinky. I've bathed, you know.” Mickey then turned to Jillian playfully, getting close enough to Jillian to rub noses.

“So how long before you think I’ll be healed?” Jack asked loudly to interrupt.

“I have no idea.” Jillian turned to look at Mickey.

“Why? You in a hurry to get out of here? This place is heaven. Clean water, apples, and we’ve stocked up on a lot of canned food and stuff. I stole them from an abandoned truck stop up the road. All that needs to be done is finding some way to heat the basement when it gets cold this winter and we have it made,” Mickey explained happily.

“Yeah it was heaven,” Jack said bitterly.

“Wake up!” a man announced over a speaker box in the corner of an all white room with nothing but an old hospital bed in the center of it.

“I’m tired of this shit. There's nothing wrong with you. I’m tired of playing this game. You have till the count of three, then I’m going to pay your sister a visit. I sure need the company since your pointless battle got my bitch killed,” the man screamed loudly. “I’m going to make her beg for me to stop.”

Steve appeared beside the bed, then shook it madly. “What was her name? Oh yes, Jillian!” Steve screamed her name. Caleo started to stir in the bed, but didn’t wake. “Jillian will be crying,” Steve spat as he said his words. “’Please! Stop! You’re hurting me’,” Steve said in a mock girl voice, but as he did he noticed his breath floating up in front of his face and an instant chill filled the room, leaving it freezing like a meat locker. “Same time tomorrow, then. I have other matters to attend to, but I'll find something you care about enough to wake up for,” Steve said before vanishing.

“Dress for Smear …” Caleo mumbled in his sleep, no louder than a whisper, still lost in his dream.
