Lyle's Story Page 10

Then he spotted the sunset, a smudge of vibrant pink slung low in a pastel blue sky. Glancing at Ben, whose beloved profile the dying light had gilded a reddish bronze, Lyle snorted at his daftness. He ran his thumb over his engagement ring.

Worries? What worries? If he’d passed through ages of darkness for anything, it was simply to be here right now. Nothing in this moment could be less than perfect.

  “What is it?” asked Ben.

“I was just thinking how wonderful our life is,” said Lyle. “And how beautiful that sunset is, and how exquisite being with you, here on the beach is. Are you hungry, by the way?”

“Could do with some fish and chips,” admitted Ben.

“Seeing as I’m the one who got a job today—or, at least, got one back—let me treat you. No magic, I promise. I’ll use my money.”

Ben poked him playfully in the chest. “What’s mine is yours and what’s yours is mine. We have a joint account, Lyle.”

“So we do. I still don’t quite get how that works, but I like the sound of it.”

They shared a grin. “I’m just kidding you, anyway,” said Ben. “I love the idea of you buying me dinner. Thank you.”

Lyle rose and pulled Ben to his feet after. Side by side, hearts entwined, they set off to buy some supper.

  About the Author

Kay’s been making up romance stories with m/m protagonists since the days before the internet, before she’d any idea what sex was, and when she believed she was the only little girl who did so.

She recently started writing her stories down again after a two-and-a-half year hiatus. Her sexy new romance tales contain an unholy concoction of fun and fantasy (dragons, fairies, and mermen, anyone?) alongside a strong dose of angst and hurt/comfort.

She is a bit of a social media recluse (sorry!) but loves to connect with readers. You can email her at [email protected] and she lurks on twitter a little – @kayberrisford.
