  Fortunately, neither Tavleen Singh nor Siddharth Varadarajan were involved in seeking to rescue a public institution from the control of Rajiv Gandhi’s heirs.

  * The choice of examples was unfortunate. While Nehru made many contributions to national unity and democracy, architecture and the schooling of children were not among them. He disregarded building styles more adapted to Indian climates in favour of bloodless modernists like Corbusier. And he seriously neglected primary education. A more intelligent propagandist would have avoided these topics altogether.
