I nod again.
“Good, and here. It appears you forgot something.”
I smile when he holds out the diamond necklace I left in Paris. I let him put it on me. It amazes me. No one steals from Sean Courtney, my Sean Courtney.
“Try not to misplace it again.”
“And you’ve gotta stop buying entire companies for billions of Dollars just to get my attention. Wouldn’t a phone call and an invitation for dinner have been enough?”
Sean chuckles.
“There is no greater statement than amorous intent, action and then putting your money where your mouth is. I would have done anything to get you back, Rachel. That’s what love is all about.”
He indicates with his head to the door.
“As your new boss, I say you have the day off. Portia is waiting for us around here somewhere and we have a lot of Christmas shopping to do.”
When he opens the door and we step out, a flurry of dark hair assaults me.
“Rachel, it’s so good to see you. I knew this would work,” says Portia, hugging me.
I arch my eyebrows.
“This was your idea?”
“Well, dad did have a few pointers, but yeah.”
I laugh when I see Sean wag his finger, and mouth, “no.”
“Come, Rachel. We have a lot more to discuss now that you are a member of the Courtney family,” says Portia, taking me by the hand and guiding me to the exit.
“What might that be?”
Portia stops. She looks at her father and then back at me.
“Now that I have an ally in you, Rachel, we can discuss something very important for the New Year. You see, it’s Christmas in a week’s time and I have the perfect present for us from dad.”
I giggle. The girl’s enthusiasm is infectious. I have never felt better in my life. I have the man of my dreams walking next to me, and the most delightful new daughter. Life could not be sweeter. In a heartbeat, I have a yearning to celebrate Christmas for the first time in my life. I even think that I am going to talk Sean and Portia into joining Michonne and her family over the holidays. That would be fun. Portia’s voice drags me back to what’s going on around me.
“Do you like living in hotels, Rachel?”
“I love nice hotels, but I don’t know if I would want to live in one.”
“My point exactly. That’s why dad is going to find us a new home, a nice house or apartment that we three can call our own. We will fill it with our stuff and our memories. Right, dad? You’ll get right on to it, won’t you?”
I laugh when I hear Sean groan next to me.
“Anything for the two most important ladies in my life,” says Sean, as we step into the elevator. I turn around and look at Sean and know I’ve made the best decision ever, I have a family and the man I’m deeply in love with.
