Raber Wolf Pack Box Set
Page 22
I look up at Max, and no matter how much calm I feel here, I can’t leave him like this. I move to the light and walk right through it. Pops, cracks, and loud noises fill my ears. But this time it’s not as painful as before. My now-human body is held tight against Max. “Thank the Heavens,” he whispers, and then repeatedly kisses the top of my head, my face, landing on my lips.
As his kiss deepens, something inside of me snaps, and these strange, electric livewires reach out, connecting to Max. Suddenly, I can’t get close enough. I straddle him and pull him as tight as I can into me. Shit, I want to crawl inside of him. Now.
Max breaks away and I whimper, but begin running my tongue along his neck. Damn, he tastes good—sweat, outside, and mate. Yes. Mate. I smell it. Whatever it is…I smell it hard, so hard that if he doesn’t get his fucking pants off in two seconds, I’ll do it for him.
“Out!” Max barks, and I don’t give two shits that people are in this room. I want him and I want him now.
“Max. She may have complications,” the doctor protests.
Max growls and I feel the vibrations on my tongue, only heightening my arousal. “Get the fuck out!”
I don’t let him speak anymore. This time, I grip his cheeks and pull him to me, crushing his sexy-as-hell lips to mine. His fingers thread through my hair, pulling it with force, but this time I pull back so he pulls harder. Right there. Perfect. I can take so much of his strength. This is so awesome.
The door clicks shut and everything escalates into a blur of activity, but I can see everything as clearly as if it were moving at a snail’s pace. Every brush of Max’s lips and tongue on my body is magnified twentyfold and the ache, God the ache is so much more intense than before.
His pants are off and quick as a flash, I’m on my back and Max is plowing inside of me in a mass fury. His thrusts are not gentle, calm, or precise. These are rough, hard, and I feel taken. If he would have unleased this before, when I was human, I think he would have broken me.
The bed moves with each powerful thrust, my nails gripping on to Max, trying not to lose him. “Shit!” I yell out just as the explosion to end all explosions bursts through every cell of my body. It’s electric, pulsating, and the most ultimate euphoria I’ve ever experienced. Holy hell.
As I’m coming back down from the clouds, Max is still pumping hard into me. “That feel good, babe?”
Like he even has to ask. “Oh, yeah.”
“Just wait, you will have those the rest of your life.” He smiles, leans down over me, and kisses me. After two more earth-shattering orgasms, he pulls out and flips me onto my stomach, raising my hips so my knees are on the bed, my head down. “This, my mate, is me claiming you.” He pushes in and it’s so much deeper than it was before. Shit.
Max wraps his hand around my hair and pulls so forcefully, I have no choice but to follow, my back against his chest as he continues his assault. If I knew sex would be this good, I’d have signed up for this wolf thing on my own.
His breath caresses the curve of my neck and I extend it, giving him better access. His tongue and teeth feel phenomenal on my skin. “Babe. I need to mark you. I’m dying here.” I suck in my breath. He wants to bite me, just like the other wolves. Oh lord, I don’t think I can do that. “Need to make you mine.” My heart constricts. I want to be his, too.
A strange sensation comes over me and I no longer feel like my body is my own. Someone else has taken up residence inside of it. I close my eyes, and there staring back at me is my wolf. One would think I’d run screaming for the hills with that sight, but I’m the calmest I’ve ever been. The wolf tilts her head, somehow telling me that it’s going to be okay.
“All right,” I breathe out.
“You sure?” Max is such a protector, but that’s why he is the way he is.
“Yes.” The need grows. “Now.” Without any further hesitation, his teeth sink into my flesh and not an ounce of pain comes from it. Instead, my body explodes in the ultimate climax. So hard my body is shaking and quivering. So hard my ears ring. So hard that I can smell myself along with Max.
Max thrusts one last time into my limp body that he is now holding up with both his arms. His seed spurts into me and I feel each tiny drop of him. We collapse to the bed, still together. I can hear his heart beating.
Babe.
“Yeah.”
We are connected. Now, you can hear what I am thinking.
I turn quickly in his arms. “How’d you do that?”
We are one. The connection will be complete once you bite me, he says but his lips don’t move. Holy crap.
I close my eyes and focus on Max’s face in my head. Can you hear me?
Yes, babe.
I open my eyes, suddenly super excited, and pull away from Max, then throw my arms around his neck, facing him. “Holy shit. I can hear you in my head!”
Max chuckles. “Yes, you sure can. I’d like to make our connection complete. Will you mark me as yours?” There is almost a plea in his voice, and I remember how intense of a feeling it was when he was inside of me. I want that for him too.
“Only if you fuck me again,” I tease, rolling away from him on the bed, feeling like I should be making him work for it a little more than I am.
“You want to play? All right.” He chases me around the room and each time I almost get away, he pulls me back. This goes on for quite some time, but when he catches me, it’s well worth it.
His thrusts become desperate. “You want me to mark you as mine?” I ask.
“More than anything.”
I waste no time. Somehow, my body knows exactly what to do. My teeth elongate and I bite right into the curve of Max’s neck, the taste of his blood fills my mouth and I suck it down. A violent orgasm crushes me just as Max grunts out and releases inside my body. I release Max, falling back to the bed, but my chest tightens.
“Max?” I ask, holding my chest. “What’s happening?”
“Tell me what you feel?” He’s instantly at my side, looking into my pain-filled eyes.
“My chest is so tight. I think my heart is going to burst.” Hundreds of little strings are wrapping so tight around my heart and soul, squeezing with all their might.
“That’s the connection taking place. I feel it too, babe, but I’ve had time for it to grow. You, it’s hitting all at one time. Let me hold you. It will pass.” I think he’s nuts. Nobody’s chest should hurt this bad. Damn. I take every bit of strength that Max is offering and suck it down deep. After what feels like hours, my body calms and I feel it. The connection. The longing. The need. I wrap my arms tightly around him and nuzzle his cheek and his temple.
Rounds three and four are equally fantastic. But exhaustion takes over and I pass out.
I LIE WRAPPED IN MY mate’s arms, warm, safe and undeniably comfortable, as I come to terms that there is now a wolf inside of my head. She thinks, talks to me, and has serious feelings. I swear, if any one my friends back home find out, they’ll be calling the psych ward and putting me in a padded room for sure. My wolf whines at the thought. I feel her. My stomach churns and my wolf growls at the thought of me leaving. Can I really live somewhere else and come back here from time to time for Max? It’s not like he’s far away or anything. We could make it work. Right?
My wolf chomps her teeth at me. Oh, cool it.
So, I made the change. Now what? I’m no longer a human. I’m a wolf. I wonder if I still have witch’s blood in me.
You’re thinking awfully hard in there. Max chimes in. I’m not liking this hearing what I’m thinking thing. You’ll get used to it. I growl and turn over.
“Get out of my head!” I rage while he smirks. “Not funny.”
“In regards to your thoughts, what have you decided?” I feel Max’s pain in my chest as if a knife were slicing through. Shit.
“I don’t know, Max. Everything has happened so fast.” He sighs and pulls me into his body, kissing the top of my hair.
“Not gonna sugarcoat this, babe. Wa
nt you here, with me, for eternity.” Damn, this man is sweet.
“What will my co-workers and friends think if I truly just disappear from them?”
“Who gives a shit? It’s not like you can’t still be friends with them if you choose. I’m not locking you in a room and never letting you see anyone. Not gonna lie, either. Friends you got now, once you changing comes out, probably aren’t gonna be around a lot. Some humans are scared of us when there is no reason to be. But it keeps us all on the same page. You, my dear, are going to be an exception.”
“What will happen if it gets out that I was changed to wolf?” Surely there wouldn’t be some sort of uproar or something. This can’t happen.
“It won’t be pretty. If humans think that we can change them and fear us going after them, it could result in us going underground and disappearing to a new place. They’d probably hunt us just out of fear.” Holy shit. That can’t happen.
“That can’t happen,” I say out loud.
“WE NEED TO DISCUSS this Camp issue,” Xavier says to the group. Max brought me to Xavier’s office about ten minutes ago saying we had some things to discuss and that it was important that I be in on the conversation. I agree because I’d like to know everything I can about this Camp guy.
“Can I just rip his damn throat out and get it over with?” Thor snaps.
“No. Bad publicity,” Xavier responds. “Kenly.” My eyes jerk up. “I need you to get ahold of your parents. Ask them if they know about Camp. We haven’t come up with anything on our end, so we need your help.” I nod. “If they don’t, what do you think they will do?”
I don’t even have to think about it. “If he’s dragging my parents’ names through the mud, they’ll have so many lawyers up his ass the guy won’t sit for a month.”
Xavier looks to Max and I concentrate. Yep. She needs to, he thinks.
“I need to what?” I say, proud that I actually heard it. That is super cool. I don’t care what anyone says.
“If your parents know nothing about it, we need you to get them here.” I raise my brows because, seriously, he has no idea what he’s asking. “Listen. We need to talk to them before Camp does or before they find out exactly what’s going on.”
“What if I can’t get them to come?” I twist my fingers and my wolf perks her head up.
“It’s not an option. You and Maggie need to get them here. We need them on our side with this whole situation.” Xavier sighs. “Look. Humans are going to have a shit-fit if they find out one of their own was turned. So, to counteract that, we will need to tell them that you are a witch and therefore not human so that is why the change took place.”
How do I put this so he doesn’t get pissed? Hmm… “So you want me to lie? You want me to say that because I’m a witch that’s the reason I turned, even though I had no idea I had any witch blood in my veins? Not to mention that would mean outing my Grams.” This doesn’t sit right. Not at all. I need to talk to Grams.
Max squeezes my shoulders then sits in the chair next to me. “Babe. It’s not lying. The other humans that got bit, didn’t make it. So, we think that the reason you did is because of the witch magic in you.”
“So, what are you going to say? You bit me to change me? Or did I wake up one day and say, ‘hey, I’d like to be a wolf today’?” It’s sarcastic and I don’t give a shit. This is way too much to put on a person and I feel like I’m going crazy.
“Kenly.” This comes from Xavier and it is not an I’m going to be patient with Kenly because she’s only been a wolf for a few hours tone. This is an I’m alpha and you will listen to me tone. And dammit, I’m listening. “This is hard for all of us. I get it, all right? Later, after all this shit is said and done, you can do whatever. But right now we need to focus. We have to get your folks here and get your grandmother on board. This will shut Camp down as quietly as possible.”
He’s right and I hate it. Both Zara and Max chuckle. Get out of my head! I breathe in deep, close my eyes, then exhale. I do this a few times before I open them back up. “I’m ready. I’ll do what needs to be done.” And I am. If this is what I’m supposed to be doing, it’s what I’ll do.
“Great.” Xavier stands, the bulkiness of him casting a shadow over me, and suddenly I feel small. “Kenly, you and Max get on that. “ He looks to Zara. “First, you need to talk to Maggie about Nana O and then I think we need to go see Marvin for a bit.”
“Wait a minute.” Zara stops. “You mean, Nana O’s best friend Maggie is Kenly’s Grams?”
“What’s Nana’s name?” Even though she was talking to Xavier, the curiosity got the best of me.
“Opal,” Zara says and my eyes widen.
“No freaking way! I grew up with Opal coming to visit my Grams. It was always at Grams’s place, but I know her!” This is so strange.
“It looks like we were destined to know each other.” Zara gives a slight chuckle.
“I guess so. Do you thinking Grams can find your Nana?”
“If anyone can it’s her.” Zara smiles as she steps out of the room with Xavier.
Max laces our fingers together and kisses the top of my hand. Damn, I like that. I could so fall in love with this man. It would not be hard at all. We enter the living room where my young and hot grandmother sits with a group of guys swarming around her. She’s laughing a beautiful laugh. It sounds like her—at least the her that I remember—but younger, way younger. Holy shit.
Her head turns. “Kenly.” She races over and wraps her arms around me hugging me tightly, which I reciprocate. “I’m so relieved you are okay. How do you feel?” She brushes a loose hair from my face, just like she’s done hundreds of times before.
“I’m good, Grams. Different, but good.”
She gives me one more squeeze and pulls away, but before I get a word out, swarms of men and women head my way. “What’s going on?” I ask Max, panic creeping in my voice as I push against him for protection.
“They are welcoming you to our pack.” One by one, each of the wolves in the room wraps me in their arms and squeezes. It is strong, but nothing I can’t handle. Between Max’s growls at some of the men taking too long and the amount of people, I’m a bit overwhelmed, but also, I feel like I’m home. Shit, did I just say I was home? I look to Max who now has a huge smile on his face. Damn man. Get out of my head!
There has got to be a way to block these people out.
Finally, the last one is little Natalie. “I’m so happy you’re here.” Her little arms wrap around me, and it takes everything I have not to let the tear in my eye fall. She is unbelievably sweet and thoughts of having a little one like her swirl inside my head. I try not to turn to Max, but my gaze hits his, telling me he understands.
“I’m happy to be here with you.” With my index finger, I tap her nose to which she giggles and runs off. Before anyone else comes up, I need to get Grams. “Grams. Gotta talk to you. It’s important. Follow us.” She doesn’t hesitate to fall in step.
After closing the door, I lay it all out for Grams. At least what we know. She takes it all like the champ she is, never even batting an eye. All she says is, “If it protects you, I’m in.” Damn, I love this woman.
“Zara needs to talk to you about Opal. Apparently, she is her granddaughter.” Grams’s head snaps up like she just put pieces together of a large, hard puzzle.
“This is the Raber pack…” she trails off as I wait. “Zara is here? She’s safe?”
“I am,” Zara says, stepping into the room. “And from the fact that I can’t read you, you know about my powers.”
“I block all powers from reading my thoughts, but…I can’t believe this.” She shakes her head.
“Do you know where Nana O is? I’m desperate to find her,” Zara implores and my Grams’s face falls.
“I don’t. She took off and hasn’t connected with me.” She pauses, sucking in a deep breath. “I’m sorry for not being able to talk to you and brushing you off the way I did. When you called, your fat
her was making rounds to anyone and everyone that had connections with your family. Some he murdered on the spot. I was pretty terrified.” She shakes her head in disgust. “That’s no excuse. I should have done more.”
Zara walks up to Grams and wraps her arms around her, squeezing tightly. “I know how he was. I understand, but now we have to find her.”
“I’ll try to get ahold of her, but no promises. She’s avoided me for weeks now.” Grams dials her phone, getting nothing on the other end. “Sorry.”
Zara hangs her head a bit. “It’s okay. We’ll find her.” She begins to walk away. “Wait, did you know about all of the spells?”
“I know of the protection spell, any others, I do not.” I sit here stunned, watching the conversation in front of me like a pingpong game going back and forth.
“What about the crystal?” Zara asks and Grams’s head tilts to the side in thought.
“I know nothing of a crystal. What is it?” she asks Zara who exhales in a huff.
“Nana O gave it to me when I was a child. I never took it off, but lost it. Kenly found it, but when she was chased, lost it too. I just feel this need that I have to find it and I don’t know why, thought you may have some answers.” Zara’s voice almost sounds defeated, but I don’t believe it for a second. She’s too much of a fighter.
“I’m sorry, child. I wish I could help, but I don’t know.” Zara stares at her and must gather that she is telling the truth as she nods and slips out the door.
“Now, we call my parents,” I say, not skipping a beat and not excited about this in the least. The phone rings loudly through the speaker I just put the cell on. On the fourth ring, it connects. “Hello?” my mother’s voice comes through clearly.
“Hi, Mom.”
Nothing comes over the line and I stare at the phone thinking maybe I lost the call. “Mom?”
