  “Pretty tall order,” Jerome said.

  “One never knows.”

  “That’s for sure.”

  They said good-bye, and went their separate ways. Joshua had planned to catch a cab back to the office, but had decided to walk.

  It was a good day for walking.

  POSTSCRIPT

  The twenty years since the Crown Heights riots have witnessed significant efforts by the African American and Hasidic communities to promote dialogue and heal tensions. Notwithstanding, there is still much to be done towards enhancing understanding and sensitivity in a broad and meaningful way. I hope this book contributes to those endeavors.
