See No Evil Page 15

The thought of almost losing Priety came back to Luke and he shivered and pulled her closer to him. “I would have killed him if he’d hurt you.”

“I know.” She turned her head and pressed a kiss against his bare chest.

  Silence.

  “Priety?”

  “Mhmm?”

  “Would you marry me?”

Priety lay still for what seemed like an eternity, trying her best to see if he was joking. When he said nothing else, she sat up slowly and looked down into his face. His eyes were closed and she touched his cheek. When his brown eyes opened to look up at her, she saw no joke. “You want to marry me?”

  “Yes, I’m very serious.’

Flying into his arms, Priety wrapped her arms around his neck tightly, “Yes!” she exclaimed. He grunted and she suddenly remembered his injuries. “Sorry,” she whispered.

But she wouldn’t let him ask twice. She knew she scored herself the most wonderful man in the world. There was no two ways about it.

“I will make you happy, I swear,” he promised.

“I know,” Priety whispered through her tear-filled eyes.

“I don’t have the ring yet because Chen wanted to—”

“That’s not important—you love me that’s all that matters right now.”

She knew he would fulfill his promise. He had already proven he would willingly give his life for her.

  Epilogue

Priety stepped out of the house and glanced around. She began fingering the engagement ring on her finger as she stepped down and took a deep breath. “Luke?” she called.

Turning from the front door she walked back into the house and locked it behind her. She moved through Luke’s house like someone who was born in it. She walked into the gym but he wasn’t there. She found him swimming laps in the pool. She stood on the deck watching his dark muscles chopping through the water. The flow of the water over his chocolate skin made her lick her lips. She smiled and moved closer. “Luke?”

He stopped and she watched as he rose out of the water like Poseidon. A smile graced her lips and she felt like the luckiest woman on the planet. She had scored a man that looked like a bronze god, loyal, loving and so tender to her. She watched him as he moved up to her.

“Join me?” he grinned at her.

Priety grinned and shook her head. Backing up she giggled and held up her hands in surrender but he was quick. Soon he was out of the pool, had her in his arms and jumping back into the pool. Shrieking, she wrapped her arms around his neck and giggled when they surfaced.

Luke used one hand to hold her to him and his free hand to push her wet hair from her face. He leaned forward and took her lips. The kiss caused him to moan and groan when she pulled away to tilt her head and look up at him. He spun her around and she laughed. “How was it?”

“Well, apparently the reason why I have been so sleepy lately and haven’t been able to keep anything down is because I am pregnant. Who knew?”

“Are you playing?” Luke arched a shocked brow.

Priety shook her head and Luke let his head fall back and yelled his pleasure to the sky. “I’m gonna be a dad!” he shouted before looking at her again. His voice echoed and returned to them. “I shouldn’t have jumped with you into the pool.” He looked at her slyly. “Ok… I think we should celebrate. And I have just the way to do it, that we’ll both enjoy.”

  “Oh?”

  * * * *

Luke nodded while lowering his lips to hers. It was the kiss that threatened to take his sanity but he would have willingly given it up. A touch from Priety meant more to him than anything else and for a brief second that scared him to the core. He carried her from the water and laid her softly on the sun-bed. With the sun shining around them, he moved in beside her.

“Are you happy to be having our baby?” Luke asked.

“What kind of question is that?” Priety asked.

“I aim to please you, Priety, and if you’re not happy, I want to know.”

“How can a woman not be happy having your baby, Luke? You are a wonderful man. I am not only happy to be having your babies, I am honored.”

Luke grinned like an idiot before kissing her again. “I’m the honored one. I have no clue what I did to deserve you but I am thankful I did it.”

He moved his mouth down to her neck. “I’ve waited a very long time for this,” Luke whispered before leaning forward to taste one darkened nipple through her wet shirt.

“Oh really?” Priety teased while arching her back.

“Oh yes.” Luke moved his head to the other breast. He nipped softly at it before reaching up for her lips. “I’ve waited forever.”
