Close Ranks Page 32

by Valerie Keogh

Hesitating a moment, as if he wasn’t quite sure he was about to do the right thing, he kissed her again. This time full on the lips. Gently, softly, lingering. His fingers brushed her cheek. Her hand moved to caress his neck, moving to the back of his head, holding his lips on hers.

They broke apart, reluctance on both sides.

‘I’ve dreamt about kissing you for a long time, West said with a smile. ‘I’d hoped for a more romantic setting than this.’

‘I don’t know,’ Kelly grinned. ‘Seems wonderfully romantic to me.’

He chuckled and then checked his watch. ‘I’d better go. You decide where you want me to take you and I’ll be back in about forty-five minutes.’ On that note he turned and left with a wave of his hand.

Kelly smiled, took a deep breath and settled back against the pillows.

Which choice to make. His house? Her house?

  It didn’t matter. Not really.

But then she thought about the house in Wilton Road. The excitement when she and Simon had bought it together. How much in love they were, how happy. It was the first time she had remembered the good times and she was glad.

And it made the choice so easy. The house was beautiful. But it was filled with memories, good and bad, that belonged to her past.

  She’d go home with Mike.

And for the moment, she’d sleep in his spare room.
