“There are doorways, however between the two dimensions, which can be crossed from one realm to the other, only if one knows where to look. I couldn’t separate the two worlds, completely.
“Before Brett was sent to earth in human form, he was shown where the doorways were hidden. He was told where he would be going, as was Rose. They understood that their memories would be temporarily blocked and that it was up to you, to help them remember.”
I interrupted Varda then, “And if I can’t help them remember?
“Then you will all live your lives as humans and the future will happen as it may. Will Stephan escape Hades and find a doorway back to earth and find you? Will Mephisto’s followers find a way to release him?” Varda said in a matter of fact tone, and shrugged.
“What am I supposed to do? I have sent them both away, and I have no intention of freeing them, even if I do get captured.” I said.
Varda took my hand and said, “Come, it’s time you see.”
We walked to the tree and an opening appeared. I looked at Varda and she smiled and said, “This is where I see all. If this tree is destroyed, then all is lost in the worlds that I take care of. I will go back to where I came from and start over, with other worlds, dimensions. We will let this section of the universe be as it will, and destroy itself from the inside out.
We walked into the doorway then, and I was amazed at what I saw. This tree, this beautiful tree, wasn’t a tree at all. It was a room, like the one that Brett and I were in when we met Biton. It was white, sterile white, but all around the room, there were portals to different worlds.
I could see Earth, but it wasn’t dull and dreary, as I thought, the colors were that of fall, a forest was where the doorway was. The leaves on the trees were reds, yellows, oranges and browns. A stream meandered through the forest. It was my forest, Pineville.
Then yet another, Terrafirma. The doorway entered a village, one I hadn’t seen before and another, a water world, Atlantis, maybe? There were many more, like pictures hanging on the wall, but there was movement in each one, as if a movie.
“This is where I watch over all.” Varda said. “Mephisto must not be released, for if he comes here, and he does know how to get here, remember, he was once like me, he will have it all, and I will have to walk away.”
“What is under the waterfall, Grandmother?” I asked. “Why did I see what I saw, me taking Brett’s hand? It was me!”
“That is the future I see for you and for Terrafirma, Earth, Atlantis and the other realms that are joined here. That is a special place, but only if that future becomes.
“You must stop them from releasing Stephan and Mephisto. Your journey continues, humans and fey, must come together and find a way to live in peace and acceptance of each other, to work together to combat the evil that lurks in the dark spaces of all worlds. The Atlantians and other realms will join you, but only when Terrafirma and earth are in harmony with each other.
“It is time to awaken Brett and Rose’s memories. Time to find a doorway back to Terrafirma.”
“But Emilee? The real Emilee, if I leave here, will she come back or is she gone?” I asked.
“The human Emilee, died. Her wounds that Stephan inflicted, were too great, even with your healing. Your healing powers kept her body alive long enough for me to put you back here. You share the body that she had, and her spirit lives on, in the Goblins’ village. Eliza and Ragnar came and took her home the moment I put you here.” Varda explained.
“If I leave and go to Terrafirma, then Emilee disappears, as well as Brett, Rose and Lily? What will my parents think? How can I do that to them?” I questioned wearily.
“There is one thing I can do, temporarily. I can freeze the human’s earth time, make it stand still. But only temporarily. If you succeed and bring humans and fey together, then, your parents will know you as who you truly are, a mixture of all, human, fey, plant, animals, water, stars, soil, and air. You are all, Emilee.”
Varda held her hand out then towards the opening of the tree and we walked out. As I turned to look at the tree, the doorway closed and it was just the magnificent tree that had been in my visions from day one of this incredible journey that I was on.
“It’s time, Emilee. They are getting stronger. It is time.”
Chapter 28
The ending is
The beginning,
The beginning is
The end.
I woke in my bed, in my human room. Lily was sitting at the end of my bed, looking at me. I got up and went over to the mirror to see what I looked like. I still looked human, but inside, I felt different, stronger. I put my hands on my chest, and there were two heart beats.
“It’s time Lily.” I said, and she jumped off the bed and went to the door, sat down and waited for me.
I got dressed and called Brett. I told him that I was going into the basement of my house and I needed his help. I hung up then, that was all I needed to say. I knew he would rush over, he was protective that way.
I opened the door and Lily headed down the stairs. I knew where she was going. I went into Rose’s room, and upon waking her, I asked her to get dressed and come with me. I had something to show her.
As we headed downstairs and to the front door, Lily was there waiting. “What Lily, can’t you open doors yet?” I questioned with a giggle and Rose looked at me queerly.
“Where are we going?” Rose asked, as I headed out the door, after grabbing a flashlight from the desk, which sat next to the door.
Before I closed the door, I saw a silhouette of a person, standing in the doorway to the kitchen. It was my mom, and as she stepped out from the darkness, a smile on her lips, she nodded her head, knowing where I was going. She knew it all. I turned and closed the door quietly.
I bounded down the stairs, Lily racing ahead, and seeing Brett running across the street to stop me, I ran and reached the top of the basement stairs, just before him.
“Emilee, stop, this isn’t safe! What are you thinking?” Brett said, out of breath.
“I have to show you something. Trust me, it’s worth it.” I said as I pointed the flashlight down the stairs into the dark.
As I got to the bottom step, and shined the light around the small room, there didn’t seem to be much there. I walked to the middle of the room as Brett and Rose followed, Lily already there, sitting on top of a large boulder.
Brett stammered, “Where did that rock come from?”
I just smiled, for I suspected it was Kimberlite, here to guide us back into Terrafirma, and I was sure he wasn’t at all happy that Lily was sitting on him.
“Please, sit and let me explain why you are here.” I said as I walked over to the large rock. There sitting on top, next to Lily, was my diamond necklace, earrings, and barrette. My cameo was still in Hades, with Stephan, I hoped.
“Emilee”, Brett said, “it isn’t safe down here. We need to go!”
I turned, and looking at both their frightened faces, I didn’t quite know how to start or what to say. I just knew that I had to help them remember.
“It’s alright, Brett, there isn’t anything down here that can hurt us. Please sit down on those boxes. Please, trust me.” I begged.
I saw something in Brett’s face then, trust, and a spark in his eyes. As Rose started to complain, Brett said, “Okay, Rose, let’s hear what she has to say.”
Rose looked at Brett in disbelief but they both sat down.
As I started to put on my necklace, earrings, and barrette, I said, “Have you ever wondered what was out there just beyond your sight? You can see it but just not quite. You see a movement just out of the corner of your eye, but when you turn to look, it’s gone. Well I have a story to tell, and what a story it is. I hope that you can believe, it means the worlds to me.”
And as I put my earrings into my ears, a portal opened up behind me and…
He grins evilly as he watches from afar. He drifts in the blackness of the galaxy, encased in a shell of
diamond as he watches her explain. As an unnatural giggle escapes his lips he whispers, “Granddaughter, it’s time to come home.”
His pain is deep, so deep. The torture from the one who rules Hades is endless. But the pain from him, doesn’t compare to the pain of losing the woman he wants, and to his brother at that, and knowing that his brother still lives. But there is another pain, so deep that he doesn’t recognize it; the loss of innocence, kindness, love and compassion that his mother had tried to teach him, so many years ago. As the tears fall on the wooden tomb encasing him, the area around the cameo softens and the cameo falls to the floor.
There’s a tree in my yard,
So big and so strong.
It’s old,
It’s twisted,
It’s gnarly,
It looks sad!
It’s been cut,
It’s been broken,
But it still stands!
There’s a tree in my yard
It’s seen so much in its life,
Being a home for so many.
Been through all the storms
Still standing tall.
Does it feel pain?
Does it feel pity?
Does it want to cry?
Still growing to the sky,
There’s a tree in my yard,
So big and so strong.
